  1. Thanks chrispt. Interesting......Can the SQL folder be safely deleted in its entirety? It won't mess up the functioning of my 66s if I delete it? What is the purpose of the SQL folder?
  2. Hi I've recently bought a GPSMAP 66s and I'm hoping someone can solve this problem I'm having. I can't delete Geocaching Lists from it. They no longer appear in my geocaching.com account but they are stubbornly remaining on my 66s! I've tried a factory reset to get rid of them but to no avail. If it's any help the lists don't sync either. A screenshot of the lists I can't get rid of is included below. Thanks in advance
  3. Thanks for the responses. I think I'm swinging towards the Oregon, particularly as I've heard Garmin will be doing a good deal on a 450/Discoverer maps combo at the upcoming Outdoor Show. Having said that the Satmap's bigger screen is REALLY appealing. Decisions, decisions...... I shall try them both at the show and decide then probably. Cheers!
  4. I'm fortunate to have recently come in to some spare money and I'm going to blow the lot on upgrading my GPSr from a Garmin Vista Hcx to either a Satmap Active 10 or an Oregon 450. My question is, which one should I buy?? The Satmap looks very attractive due to its larger screen BUT the Oregon seems to be more geared to geocaching, which is what I'll mainly be using it for, plus it supports US mapping (handy for my occasional visits). Has anyone used both? Or have any opinons on which to get? I've searched the forums but there seems to be very little info on the Satmap. Thanks in advance
  5. I fell off a ledge onto some rocks whilst looking for a cache. Shattered my knee cap and had my whole leg in plaster for 3 months. I won't be doing that again in a hurry!
  6. I broke my leg (knee cap) on monday whilst looking for a rural microcache. No hint as to it's location and so many hidey holes. In frustration, and after an hour of hunting, I ended up climbing higher up a rock face in desperate attempt to find it. Slab of rock gave way, pushed me off the ledge and I ended up flat on my back in the stream 10 ft below. Whole right leg now in plaster for at least 6 weeks. Just want to stress that I'm NOT blaming the cache owner for this but I have suggested to him/her that cache description should include hint as to accurate location so that future seekers will not make same mistake in their frenzy to log a find
  7. Is anyone still having issues with the compass pointing in the opposite direction/jumping around? Had my Vista HCx a couple of days now, went to find a cache with it today and pointer was all over the place, pointing at just about everywhere but the cache. Tried al the stuff with the compass, i.e. on, off, recalibrate, etc. and no change. P.S. I have updated it to latest software version

  9. I got my girlfriend one of these for Christmas. Don't worry, you can use it straight out of the box. No requirement to unlock maps or anything. We're generally pretty happy with it. Our main criticism is that it doesn't always recognise post codes, or should I say it displays a different street name for some postcodes than the street name we'd expect. However, we always find that it gets us there in the end (the given street name is often next to the one we're trying to get to). Hope this helps Clinton
  10. Wow, quick replies. Thanks! Unfortunately, I'm a complete 'techno know nothing' so just about everything suggested means very little to me Any 'idiots guide' to doing this kind of thing available? We really don't have much of a clue when it comes to sat nav (he only just got it for xmas) Also, I'm pretty sure tho that my friend didn't get any cables with his i3 (apart form the ciggie power cable) Cheers again!
  11. Many cache descriptions give recommendations for places to park the car, either by grid reference or by co-ordinates. So far I've used a combination of my Legend and an OS map to find these, but this inevitably leads to some confusion on the road, stopping to check the map, wrong turns, etc. I'd love to be able to drive straight to them using some sort of 'sat nav' set up in the car. To this end I borrowed a friends Garmin i3 sat nav the other day with the hope of doing this. However, this only allows addresses or postcodes to be entered There's no way of entering grid references or co-ords So my questions are......... Is it possible to 'auto-route' to suggested parking spots/start points? If so, how is it done? If not, then does anybody have a better method of finding them than an OS map/GPS combo? Cheers in advance!
  12. Ah! Received Neo's reply as I was typing my last message. All a bit clearer now. Thanks!
  13. Thanks for the reply. Are the Cx or 60cx available yet? I live in the UK and suspect they won't be available here for a while yet (plus a lot more expensive). From your reply am I also right in now thinking that the only difference between City Navigator and City Select is that Navigator is an 'upgrade' of Select?
  14. Boy, am I confused. Hopefully someone can help me..... I'm looking to replace my Legend with another handheld that I can use for geocaching AND for auto-routing whilst driving. I THINK I'm correct in thinking that both the Legend C and the 60C meet my requirements (tho please correct me if I'm wrong). This leads me to my questions........ 1. Which unit (in your opinions) is best suited? 2. How much internal memory is required to load the maps needed for auto-routing in the UK? 3. Do these units need 'City Navigator' or 'City Select' software to auto-route? 4. If they can auto-route with both, then what's the difference between these two software packages? Thanks in advance
  15. The Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, and the surrounding countryside. I visited Malvern last week and was stunned at how few caches have been hidden within 10 mile radius. I lived in a village (Leigh Sinton, in case any Malvern'ites are reading) near Malvern for 7 years and know there are numerous great walks to and through secluded/interesting/unusual areas that you wouldn't normally see unless you had a specific reason to go there, e.g. a cache. 'God' willing, I'll be able to afford to move back there one day and rectify the situation!
  16. Am I right in thinking that if a GPSr that has a built in electronic compass loses satellite coverage (e.g. due to tree cover) the pointer will still point to the cache, although no distance information will be available due to no satellite info? I've done several cache recently that have been hidden in woods where coverage is poor to non-existent. I'm thinking of buying a GPSr that has a built in compass so that after getting a fix on the cache outside the wood I can then go into the wood knowing that the pointer will still point at the cache. Thanks in advance Alan
  17. Also, be aware that if the GPSr you're after is a mapping one then the pre-loaded base map will be of the US and not of Europe
  18. Can I just confirm that I DON'T need to upload any city select stuff into a 60c in order to use auto-routing?? So, using just the pre-installed base map I could auto-route from one town/ city to another?? WOW!!! If that's true then that's all I need!
  19. Thanks for that, but what is dual-position display mode? Also, would I be correct in thinking that the 76c comes with an "auto-route'able" base map preloaded, i.e. don't need to obtain additional maps to auto-route? I should have mentioned that I live in the UK and the 76c is going to be approx. $120 to $130 more expensive hear. Don't really want to pay that much extra for double the memory. Thanks again
  20. Apart from the extra memory installed, what reasons are there for buying the 'soon to be available' Garmin 76c over the 'already available' 60c? Any answers greatfully received 5 Balls
  21. Any chance of having this meet up on a sunday? That way we might be able to get to one this time Cheers!
  22. I may be asking a stupid question here but....... Besides a serial cable is there anything else I need to download waypoints to my Legend, e.g. driver software? There's nothing mentioned in the manual that I can see about downloading waypoints. Is it just a case of plugging it in and EasyGPS does the rest? Thanks in advance 5 Balls
  23. Exactly! Why plant a bomb in a tree in the middle of nowhere??? (nowhere important strategically I mean) The reason for planting a bomb in the middle of nowhere is to test the design to see if it works prior to placing it in it's intended location. The IRA were well known for testing IED's in secluded areas of Southern Ireland.
  24. Anybody bought and using a Garmin 60C for caching? Just want the Brit viewpoint on how good it is. In particular do you find the 'caching 'mode' useful and how accurate is the auto-routing? Cheers! 5 Balls
