  1. If you're "forcing yourself into this" are you having any fun? This is a game, meant to be fun. If you're not having fun, you might look for a game you enjoy more. Getting into this competitively would require more daily commitment than you can possibly imagine. To spend that kind of time on something you're "forcing yourself into" and not having fun doing would be pretty nuts. Have fun, or go find something else you enjoy doing. This is for fun. I'm having a blast, the "forcing me into" was tounge in cheek. I was refering to the motivation to finally hunt after I had signed up almost 5 months earlier. But thanks for the advice.
  2. OK so I am not a premium yet but if I am still cache hunting in two months as hard I am now, I am going to jump all over it. I have heard of a One A Day for a year challenge you can enter, and this seems like a fun idea. Also let me say that without light post caches this challenge would be much much harder. I can not find this challenge, is it one only available to Premiums? So my other question is if I join in 2 months and start this challenge will I get retro credit for the consecutive days i've already had? Also I lost 3 days (no big deal really) because a cache wasn't there, I will make sure I read logs before I go after a cache if its the only one i am able to get that day. Thanks for the responses. P.S. Yes I know that $30 a year is not expensive, but considering how much money i've thrown away on previous hobbies you would understand my hesitation.
  3. I completely understand your original post and what you are saying. Let me throw out another reason why P&G are a good thing. I walk to and from work, and do not own a vehicle. I am trying to grab one cache a day and without a car this is a tough hill to climb. For example today I walked home from work (88 degrees Fahrenheit) with milk. I didn't have time to hike but being able to grab a simple one on the way home was very convenient. Also I agree with an earlier point, you set your own standard. You are free to hide caches wherever you want (within the guidelines) and if you want to hike 10 miles to plant it, and 10 miles every time you have to maintain it then you can feel good about your cache location. I intend on hiding a couple once I upgrade and I have some places in mind for 2 different reasons; first, the view on some is good, and second I just think the hiding places are good. I think P&G light post and other simple caches are a necessary evil, they serve a great purpose but even in my first week of caching I am already trying to avoid them. I appreciate the heck out of everyone who has ever hid a cache and don't wanna knock anyone's effort. The one a day challenge, and probably others I haven't heard about yet, would be a lot tougher without them. Some P&G are pretty creative in where they're hidden and can be difficult, you might be surprised what you are missing.
  4. Yes I am new, I was looking for a cache (for the third time), and i'm trying to use any clue available. I noticed in the description it says handicap accessible. This got me thinking, is their a guideline for using that description, is that reviewed? I know if I was in a wheelchair and made all the effort to get to a cache and couldn't get to it I would be mad. This got me thinking after the location is published is it up to someone to complain to change any part of the description? I hope this makes sense, thanks for the responses.
  5. It sounds like you found an archived cache. Very often, a cache will get archived, but the owner doesn't collect it. Or you might have found a cache that is listed at another site. Do you have the GC code for it? How did you get the coordinates for it? B. A coworker gave me a clue as to were it was so I could see how small a micro could be. I think its probably a premium member cache (he is one) that doesn't show up for us freeloaders.

    Stealth?

OK so I am new as heck to this. I discovered geocaching through a friend on facebook and didn't get serious about it until some people I work with got into it. Now my competitive nature is forcing me into this. I look forward to this and found my first cache today, but I was disappointed that it wasn't online so I can't log it on here (is that common?). Question 2 is I noticed lots of these say stealth required, and I don't understand why that is important? I could understand if the location was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be why it would say that but most of them are public places? Thanks for helping the newbie with this and good luck to all.
