You said the settings were all correct, but didn't say if you turned off the "battery saver" mode.

I had trouble with my first unit, and sent in and received a replacement. The replacement was all over the place for accuracy, and would wander around. Nothing like my original unit.

I inquired on the forums, and was told to turn off the "battery saver" mode. I did that, and now my unit is performing flawlessly, with usual accuracy around 9-12 ft.

Don't know if you have tried this or not, but I hope this helps.

  2. I posted this on the related thread also :

Yesterday I took my dog for a hike. I hadn't used my Map60csx for awhile, and so I thought I would take it along. I noticed right away the accuracy was way off. I usually get 9-12 ft., and it was showing 50 - 80, and varying all the time. After my walk, I looked at the "trip', and it said almost 3 miles. This, on a route I know to be 1 1/4 mile. It was cloudy, so I thought, bad signal because of weather, although I never had that happen before.

So today I get the unit out and fire it up. Beautiful blue sky's. My accuracy is showing from 24 ft. to as high as 100 ft +. varying again, all the time. I am at a loss, and looked on this site for any others problems. Seems it is something many others are experiancing. I thought at first maybe it was the recent software upgrade, as I hadn't used my unit since I upgraded. It appears this is not the problem though.

Just posted so others are aware many are having problems.

Thanks to anyone that can give us help with this issue.

  4. Congratulations : You have purchased an excellent unit. I have had mine for almost a year now, and I love it. It is my first GPS unit, and I knew nothing about them except from reading this forum. I was, and is a very user friend unit and easy to get started with.

I use mine mainly for road routing, but have used it on the trails and geocaching also.

As for Garmins customer service - all I can say is " Absolutely Fantastic" !

My story : I had my Map 60 Csx attached to my handlebar on my motorcycle, and accidently splashed gasoline on it. It was cradled in the bar mount, and allowed gas to soak the lower case before I realized it. The gas effected the plastic and cracked the back, and middle section of the case, and the rear battery cover would no longer stay closed.

I called garmin, certain that I would have to pay for the repair of this fluke accident. I told them exactly what had happened. The service guy on the phone was very pleasant, and said, " lets see if we can write this up so you don't have to pay the repair charge ". WOW !

They replaced my unit, and even replaced the handlebar mount for my motorcycle - AT NO COST !!! I couldn't believe it. I am definately a Garmin fan forever !

I am sure you will love you Map 60Csx !

    Good Luck !

  5. I just got a 60CSx yesterday and it truely is amazing. under 3 floors I can get 30 foot accuracy indoors!

That's pathetic! Do you really need to find your way around the house with a GPS?!

I know *I* do, my place is HUGE!!! I've got food caches in almost every room incase I can't find the kitchen

    LMAO !!!

  6. Don't know if this will help or not, but I had trouble with mine not recognizing once also. I ended up removing the memory card and replacing it. Although I had not touched it prior to this, and it appeared securely locked in, after removing and putting it back in, all was fine. That was a couple weeks ago, and I haven't had any problems since.

    Worth a try. Good luck.

  7. acorcoran :  "can see myself also using it for driving directions in the future"

acorcoran - some of the software can take up alot of memory, and I have read alot of complaining from people in these forums about not having enough memory capacity in the units you are looking at. The new x models coming out have memory cards that can be replaced. Memory isn't a problem with that type of set-up. Just something for you to consider before you purchase.

You can glean a LOT of info by reading through this great forum.

Good luck in your purchased, whatever you decide on. I am having a blast with mine !

  8. Thrak :

"There is no such thing as overkill for a first unit."

    I'll buy that statement.

My first unit : Garmin GPS Map60CSx

Alot of money, but this baby does it, and does it well. I didn't want the regret of a unit that didn't do everything I would ever want it to do, and wish for something else.

    I am very pleased.

  9. Those basemaps appear to be slightly better than nothing to me.

I just got my unit, a Garmin 60 CSx with optional mapping software, ie., Topo, and City Navigator v7.

While MUCH better than basemaps, I guess all mapping software has errors we have to live with, even at the outrageous prices they charge for them.

While brousing Nav on my PC, it seems to have lots of errors as far as addresses around my area that I am familiar with. Several are located on the wrong side of intersections, etc.

Example : it shows my daughters home address on a south east corner, when in fact, she is on the south west corner. My Harley shop address is completely wrong, and couldn't be found at all with an address search, as the numbers listed in Navigator at that section of highway, don't even exist.

I think for the most part, City Navigator, or City Select, are pretty accurate, but there will be errors in all the software available to date.

  10. I tried to reload Topo, and mapsource gave me a "this unit does not support map loading" message. What the heck ?????

So, I removed the batteries, and removed the memory card. This was the first time the card had been touched. I reinstalled the card and the batts, and bingo.....Topo is back !

I then tried adding some City Nav maps, and all worked great.

    Back to normal now.

I haven't a clue why the card wouldn't have been reading, as it seems to be locked in pretty tightly, and doesn't seem like it would get jostled very easy.

Anyway - it is working fine for the moment.

I hope this may help anyone else that may incure this problem.

  11. Loaded in some Topo and all was fine. Last night the batts went dead so I replaced and then shut down for the night. Today, I have no Topo and it has reverted back to basemap. I went to map set-up, and all it shows is the Americas Marine base.

Anyone else have these problems ?

looks like I will reload the Topo's.

  12. "Rifle Cartrige Belt pouch" that holds 10 batteries on your side- ready to go. GPSr/camera dies? Put the dead ones in upside down and take out a couple freshies!

Sundogranch - That is a great idea !

I have been using the same 8 NiMH batteries in my Olympus camera for 2 yrs. and they are still working great, with lots of use. So I will be using NiMH's in my new 60csx also.

I say, as I start my search for the cartridge pouch......hmmmm, I think I may have one right hear in my hunting stuff.........

    Thanks again SDR !

  13. If you need a car kit (ie City streets, mount, etc.) or a unit with Topo, it is pretty

  15. Their price on the 60csx was the same as everyone - $499

    But I got a "package" with : Topo, Case, batteries/charger - $509.

Free Fed Ex air - ordered yesterday afternoon, and tracking has it at the sort desk in G.R., 40 miles from my home.

As I said, the deals with the "package". They are probably forced to the $499 by Garmin like everyone else.

    Hope this helps someone anyway.
