  1. I'll let it go for $25 shipped or best offer. Item is new in package, made by Garmin. I went back to the eXplorist so I have no need for this.
  2. Just another update. I took Legend #2 back tonight and got the eXplorist 500LE. I was out with the CX all day and just couldn't get used to it bouncing all over the place. It probably had more bells and whistles than I needed anyway, plus I saved $100. Got the $9.99 unlock for the Mapsend Topo 1.5 as well.

  4. Around $30 or so, give or take...scroll down... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....mp;name=MicroSD
  5. OK, well...this new unit may have redeemed the Garmin name, lol. So far, so good. I marked three random spots in the yard, about 40 feet apart. Also marked the exact spot I marked with the other unit. Wow, what a difference...it settled in at 9 feet, which is more than acceptable for caching. The other 3 spots settled in at 11, 12, and 14 feet, respectively. The real test will be when I hit the woods for some caching. Keeping my fingers crossed!
  6. I hope you don't already own this unit. I Googled around for some reviews and it has some pretty poor ones....you should do the same if you are even remotely considering this.
  7. I took it back and decided to try another one, just to satisfy my own curiousity. After reading a bunch of threads it seems that about 75% of owners like theirs, while the other 25% flat out had problems with them. Hopefully I'll get lucky with this one, and if not, it's back to Magellan, lol.
  8. Here's my set up: WAAS on/off doesn't make a difference Datum is correct. Firmware is current, according to the Garmin web updater. Thanks for the help everyone.
  9. I would expect the accuracy to better than 40 feet. Since they market this as a tool for geocaching I would believe that 10-20 feet would not be an unreasonable figure. Clearly there are problems with it, or there wouldn't be hundreds of other posts on the subject. As a side note, I forgot to mention in my previous post that as I was standing on "the spot" in my driveway, the unit actually began counting up in distance. It started at 40 feet and continued to increase in distance until it got about 55 feet away. Yep, it's going back.
  10. After reading dozens of posts about the Legend Cx and it not being very accurate, I decided to give it another chance. I let it initialize for 25 minutes, on the porch. No tree or cloud cover. I marked a spot on my driveway and then walked down the block. I hit "go to" the mark and made my way towards the spot. When I got to the spot I was 40 feet off...this is ridiculous. I tried this with Waas enabled/disabled with the supposedly most current firmware according to the updater. How do I find the firmware number on the unit, or can I?
  11. Hmm, well according to the web updater from Garmin I already have the most current firmware. It's going back to Walmart tomorrow.
  12. OK, my Magellan died, and I figured I'd try a Garmin. I've only ever owned eXplorists, so the Legend was all new to me. I like the way it is all laid out, the joystick, etc. Functional, and pleasing to the hand. One thing I couldn't get used to was the screen location. Since it's on the bottom of the front face it always felt upsdide down to me when I'd grab it. No biggie, I can get used to it. I took it on a couple geocaches that were park and grabs, so nothing really tested it until today. Got out on a couple of hides and I couldn't find squat with this thing. It was consistently repointing the arrow in a different direction, and was ALWAYS at least 40 feet off. One cache I gave up on, and the other I got lucky and found by chance. This unit is going back to Walmart today. Is there any other Garmin's that are out there that don't suffer from this? I really like everything about it other than it's lack of ability to find geocaches.
  13. That did it! Thanks Sean! I loved you in The Rock!
  14. I appreciate the help, but it's already set up that way. It has geocache=found/unfound etc...I'm assuming that since there isn't a chest or treasure chest in the list that this is the default...I'm stumped. I guess it's not that big of a deal, but if the GPS has geocaching functionality I'd like to use it.
  15. I'm using the PQ files...it still takes it to the waypoint section though...
  16. OK, how is that done? Sorry for being a PITA...I love GSAK, but it's pretty unintuitive for a beginner, lol...
  17. Hi all, just switched from Magellan to Garmin. I picked up the Legend Cx and so far I like it. My question is this: when using GSAK, it always downloads the waypoints to the "waypoints" file in the unit. I want them to go to the "geocaches" file so I can mark them as found, etc...how do I do this?
  18. Hey all, my Explorist 500 recently died, and I don't have any desire to get it fixed. This may be an easy fix for the right person, or if someone had good internals and needed a case. It is something internal, meaning the screen, buttons, case, etc are fine. The case has a couple of scratches, as I use this for geocaching. Make an offer. No pics as of yet, it looks like every other 500, lol. This is NOT the LE.
  19. I'm interested as well, but it says the photo is private so I can't see it.
  20. Nah, if anything the marriage gets in the way of caching.
  21. Hmmm, not sure about that. I bought some yesterday from Michael's that warned not to go near them if you wore a pacemaker. Sure wouldn't want to be responsible for killing off a cacher with a pace maker as he/she retrieved the cache container, lol.
