  1. There is a CD-music cache near me. As you might expect, the quality of the CDs contained in the ammo box wasn't anything great, but my family thought it was really cool. And if you are a rap fan, then you probably would have thought this cache was superb.
  2. I use the camera built into my Treo 650. In one unit, I have a cell phone, palm based paperless cache data and a camera and camcorder. There is no flash so the pictures are less than perfect. However, if the purpose is simply to memorialize a find or a benchmark, the Treo 650 is perfect. No muss, no fuss ... everything in one unit. Only problem I've had so far is that the Treo 650 seems to lock up during very long hikes on very cold days. Popping off the battery seems to reset everything and it works fine. My wife has seen similar behavior on those occasions when she forgot the Treo 650 and left it overnight in the car.
  3. The forums are for whiling away those hours when you can't caching!
  4. 6.5 to 1 I was hiding quite a few for awhile, but some local whiners caused me to stop. I figured why bother with the abuse when I can just spend my time finding rather than hiding.
  5. I didn't mean it that way. I respect your opinion. I just meant that Jeremy really didn't seem all that upset about the matter.
  6. He just posted a website dude - dishonestly yes, but its still just a site. Cut him some slack. The magazine actually looks vaguely interesting. I suppose it was a commercial post - yes naughty naughy, but don't blow a fuse over it. Jeremy could have/would have deleted it if it had really been that serious a breach of protocol.
  7. Well one thing that certainly isn't a deciding factor is the number of finds. Some of the biggest jerks I've met in my local area are some of the biggest finders. They hide very few themselves and are ultra critical of everyone elses efforts to create new caches. I know who'd I'd nominate in my areas. An older couple that spend unbelievable #s of hours creating intricate caches. They epitomize, in my mind, the best in caching. They make me crazy cause I'd stupid as a post and have to ask for hints all the time, but when I complete one of their caches I really have a sense of satisfaction.
  8. Just to be serious for a moment, the answer is to do nothing. At least not right away. We don't need negative attention, i.e. someone beating the crap out of someone messing with a cache. We get enough attention for cemetary hides and the like. Just go back later and fix the cache back up. Don't do anything stupid.
  9. Dude, I don't mean to be critical, but wouldn't it have been smart to use a name different that Eastman since its right on the homepage? I checked the site - server seems dead slow. Looks interesting though. Congrats on the fine effort.
  10. I was out caching in a local park this weekend when I struck up a conversation with a guy walking his dog. This is a remote park around a city reservoir with lots of trails and quite a few caches. He was interested in what I was doing, so I eventually explained the game and let him find a cache with me. Imagine my surprise when he mentioned that he was the country tax assessor. Fortunately, he loved the idea. He went on to show me a fairly well hidden path that led to an island (only accessible by land in the winter when water is low). Then he showed me a hidden stand of pine trees. He thought the idea was cool - saying "it is a great way to get taxpayers to see their beautiful parks."
  11. I ran across this great midwestern geocaching site the other day called http://www.illinoisgeocaching.com ... no wait, I own that DOH .... hehe
  12. Your comments and suggestions were fine. Nothing you can do about hyper-sensitive people.
  13. I love to get outdoors, but I also love the thrill of the hunt. Especially in those cases where you want to curse the cache owner for deceiving you. Cursing one minute and praising the genius of the cache hider the next as you uncover the hidden treasure. I do have to say that the quality of the people I've met varies immeasurably. Some people are kind and fun-loving, while others seem to troll new caches just to log some complaint about the location. At first I thought hiding the caches was the best part, but I've learned that its really not worth the grief in most cases. I guess that is why most people don't bother to place caches. I know I probably won't be placing anymore.
  14. 2005 Jeep Wrangler Rocky Mountain edition - preferably with the top removed
  15. There is also http://www.illinoisgeocaching.com
  16. Hello folks, Some like minded lllinois geocachers and I have launched a new Illinois Geocaching portal at http://www.illinoisgeocaching.com. Our expectations for the portal are modest. We hope to aggregate news from the several Illinois-based caching associations. We have all the local associations prominently featured on the front page. In addition, we hope to foster coordination amongst the various associations as it relates to events, announcements and maybe all-Illinois geocaching games (my personal desire). Come visit us if you would like. And note to the assocation admins - we have created a topic area for the local associations. You merely need to submit any news you would like to share and we'll publish it on our frontpage. We also have a number of forums - one in particular focused on all-Ilinois geocaching games. We've just begun, but we hope to get folks talking about how we could launch our own all-state game (maybe something like those nice folks out in Utah are doing). Cheers and keep on caching!
