  1. I am trying to use Garmin BaseCamp to install maps from GPSFileDepot but, when I RIGHT click on internal storage it does not give me the option to INSTALL MAPS. If I go to MAPS the INSTALL MAPS is greyed out and I can't select it. Any ideas on what I need to do or what I'm doing wrong?
  2. Hello all!!! I am coming here for you wealth of knowledge on Handheld GPS units for Geocaching. I have been Geocaching for a little over a year and started with a Magellan eXplorist GC. It is a nice unit and perfect for beginners... its time to upgrade!!! I am looking to stay under $300 and get my monies worth. I am looking for a GPS unit that is a little more accurate and not overly complicated to use. In my searches I think I have narrowed it down to the Garmin Oregon 450 or 550. Most of the research I have done puts these two units as the best options in my price range. But, are these the best units in my price range for Geocaching? If so, which one should I go with? Thank you for your comments, knowledge and experience!!!
  3. I have a few caches in my area that are either missing or need maintenance. I have contacted the owner and received permission to adopt the caches. But, I have no idea what the steps are for doing so...
  4. I ran a pocket query and downloaded the zipfile... How do I import it into my Magellan eXplorist? It shows as my G Drive; do I drag and drop? If so, to where? Thank you for the help!!!
  5. Briansnat & Autigerman - I like your idea. I haven't had this happen yet, but I was wondering what to do if it did. Thanks! Isonzo Karst - I LOVE that story!!! Thank you all!!!
  6. Today I had my 1st FTF. It was very exciting for me. But, is there proper Etiquette for a chache when it comes to FTF? What I mean is - lets say I arrived at the coords for a cache and there was another cacher searching for the same cache. Being they arrived before I did should I allow them to find it and earn the FTF? Or, is it GAME ON and FTF is FTF? I wasn't sure is there is an unwritten rule? Thanks, FDWhitey
  7. Is there a way to get notification of new caches in your area when they are posted? If not, it would be a great feature!!!
  8. In Your Opinion - what would you consider to be the best handheld GPS for under $200. I am new to GC and my 7 y/o loves it... except when we aren't even close to the location while using my phones GPS. I just got a handheld GPS from Craig's List and now realize it is an older GPS unit. We are going to give it a try on Friday. But, I want to get a descent unit that will be fairly accurate. If I get hooked (like I think I will) to GC I will look to upgrade to an even better GPS by the end of year. With all that said... WHAT HANDHELD GPS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR UNDER $200? Thank you
  9. Thank you - I have been looking on Craig's List and those are my options that aren't over $250. They are all under $60. I'll keep looking!!!
  10. I just started Geocaching this week and used my Samsung Galaxy S II and it was about 50%. We were able to find 3 out of 6 and 1 of them the phone was about 150 yards off. After my first adventure I am in the market for a handheld GPS! But, I LOVE my phone!
  11. Craig's list all for under $60. Was trying to find an inexpensive option to get started with. Thank you!!!
  12. I am new to Geocaching and looking to buy my first handheld GPS. I have found a few on Craig's List and would like some assistance in choosing a good GPS. Magellan Meridian GOLD Magellan Explorist 200 GPS Garmin eTrex H - GPS If you have any info on any of these models for use with Geocaching I would appreciate your input. Thank you!!!
  13. I am looking at these three - Anyone have one of them and can comment on? Magellan Meridian Gold Magellan Explorist 200 GPS Garmin etrex Summit HC handheld GP I want something that is going to get me closer to the proper location than my crappy phone, lol! Any info is appreciated! Thank you!

  15. The Apisphere Geomate.jr Geocaching GPS It claims to have pre-loaded geocaching locations: The family-friendly Apisphere Geomate.jr comes preloaded with approximately 250,000 geocache locations covering all 50 U.S. states Simply turn the unit on and it will navigate you to your current location's closest geocache; hit the "Next" button and Geomate.jr will direct you to the next closest cache Displays compass heading, latitude and longitude Visit log allows you to mark geocaches and review them later to keep track of which caches you've already found If so - can you add new locations and gps coordinates?
  16. I too have just started and I used a few apps on my Samsung Galaxy S II as well... I found 3 out of 6 chache. I found that my GPS had me going back and forth without pinpointing the exact location. My question is, does the app from GEOCACHING work better?
