  1. I irked myself during a cruise stop in Darwin, Australia. Due to time constraints, and having left my GPSr at home, I didn't have time for geocaching except for two caches I'd previously DNF'd. They happened to be on my route walking from the car rental, where I'd dropped off a car, back to the ship. I'm irked because I Dnf'd both for a second time. A NT cacher, whose handle I have forgotten, probably knows them. One was near an elevator which takes you up and down a hill to reach the port or city and the other was near a pub IIRC, hidden on some fire hydrant plumbing near a pub. Could be a while before I get back there to remedy my DNFs. Not taking my Garmin also irks me.
  2. In 2011 my wife and travelled the Trans Siberian railway aboard the Zarengold. Two weeks and three countries. As we started geocaching in 2012 it was a missed opportunity two score at least two souvenirs - Russia and Mongolia. I've since added China. It's unlikely I'll ever collect the other two.
  3. As I have been a GPSr cacher, and still am, I never got the point of the LAB caches and the need for an extra app. I now occasionally use my smart phone but mainly when doing maintenance and still don't consider ALs as proper caches so I left it at that. Never found one and likely never will.
  4. My bold. Not strictly correct. I live in Northumberland county which is made up from many councils from Hawkesbury River as far as Hunter River, Singleton. Councils or LGAs (Local Government Areas) also contain many parishes.
  5. I'm beginning to think that cachers these days aren't even aware of the NM log function. Case in point. I was browsing some caches recently when I came across this one (which I had previously found back in 2013). GC42J04 About 20 finds since last May. Most of these logs mention a problem with the cache, wet log and parts of container missing, found out in the open. A few even mentioned that maintenance was needed but NO NMs logged. Why? IDK. I've never experienced angry responses from COs as mentioned by others here and I've logged many, many NMs. Perhaps a regional culture thing?
  6. A holiday in Bali would fill a good portion of the map between Oz and Singapore.
  7. An update. The little varmit hitched a ride home on my leg and dropped off, and crawled away while I was watching TV, because two days later I found him behind vertical drapes in a sliding door track. The give away was a massive pool of dried blood on the floor. He must have decided he didn't like my blood group, heaved it all up, crawled away and died.
  8. Slightly OT. How does one delete (from Nuvi) found or archived caches? I have many on my 10 year old Nuvi, which I haven't used for caching, but was under the impression they could only be deleted one at a time.
  9. Why would it be the app? Curious. I use an Android with GS app and have never had that experience. Do you have another phone to compare? I also prefer my Garmin and mostly use the phone on maintenance runs where one app bug does show up. It loses the "Enable" log and I have to log out then back in to get it to show (this has been experienced by others and noted in another thread).
  10. Were the ones you found water affected?
  11. I'll make a suggestion in case the OP is not on FB. Consider the canal towpaths in Cheshire. They are very popular with walkers and there are many geocaches placed along or near them. You could check out these three. Macclesfield Wardle Trent Mersey Shropshire Union (which I believe is not far from Nantwich near Crewe) There is usually parking close by in many places. Cheshire is a beautiful area for walks.
  12. I once considered using a rental scooter on a visit to Miami in 2019. However, as I am not used to driving on the right, and not familiar with local road rules or etiquette, I gave it a miss. Better safe than sorry - or dead. A few extra smilies are not worth that.
  13. Correct Jeff. Even if the roads aren't flooded there has been a lot of damage. If I wasn't laid up at the moment, with a torn tendon in my shoulder, I would often get out on one of my Yamaha FJs or GoldWing, usually down Central Coast way. Yarramalong & Bumble Hill, Kulnura, Mangrove Mountain. Or Road Warriors cafe on Old Pacific highway for bacon and egg brekky rolls but it's too dangerous due to potholes and washouts.
  14. The reason for all the blood was a leech! I suspect he/she/it is sleeping it off somewhere as it had a good feed. I've never come across leeches before in my area and lived here for 35 years. Where I picked it up, cachers sometimes complain about mozzies but never leeches. Must be all the rain we've been having this year and last - thanks la nina.
  15. Correct. You have a year or three to go yet.
  16. Get yourself a $250 voucher from NSW government that can be used to help with your geocaching travel costs. Unfortunately it is for regional residents not metropolitan. E.g Lake Macquarie residents are eligible but not Newcastle residents. https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-regional-seniors-travel-card
  17. Someone in GCHQ has too much time on their hands.
  18. That is a poorly designed survey As you said Where is "None of the above"? I could not complete it. I fudged the question "a day off work". Not everyone works. I'm retired but if I was working I'd go windsurfing or for a ride on one of my motorcycles. Then watch movies over and over about a dog? I have never watched any movie over and over. I quit. BTW I'm also a 74 yo.
  19. After seeing the clotted blood I started to think about what may have happened to cause it. In doing maintenance yesterday I was busting and breaking up a lot of lantana and bitou bush that was enveloping two GZs about 500m apart. I had an inkling what cused it, which was confirmed, when I got up and had a shower, carefully washing the blood away. This is what I found.
  20. Sounds like you have a localised problem or perhaps it may be more widespread than what I have experienced. IIRC I've come across this only once. I logged Found It mentioning the terrain rating should be higher than T1 (wheelchair walkway with cache under a small bridge). I thought the CO would read the log (I was FTF) and fix it. Nothing happened so, after a week, logged a NA to quickly get the reviewers attention and the CO fixed it quickly - with apologies. I will however, admit that I rarely take note of the terrain rating unless I suspect in advance it may more than, say, T2, so there may have been others.
  21. Was doing some cache maintenance yesterday. Woke up this morning to find this and wondered what happened. Any guesses?
  22. WOW. I hadn't noticed you had changed your name. I've been recognising your posts purely from your avatar! Doh. Call me ososlow.
  23. I have an ad come up regularly on my screen. It was an ad to sell an Adblocker. Very annoying. I found a freebie that stopped it.
