  1. I'm with you there Jeff. I too would not claim a find (if caching with a group) unless I had actually done the climb or abseiled or whatever.
  2. I have a cache hidden by a rock of that size. The cache is a bison tube in the rock. The rock has gone missing a couple of times but each time I have found it in a nearby creek. Apparently it's a rock not too big for kids to pick up then drop in the creek to see it make a big splash.
  3. I had a regular D2/T2.5 "pinged" by the CHS yesterday. It had 6 straight DNFs. No NMs. It was convenient for me to check it on my way home from windsurfing yesterday afternoon. It was still there. I logged OM and the CHS message went away. While I was at it I checked micro close by, a D3.5/T1.5 as it had 5 straight DNFs and no NMs. It was gone.
  4. I also received one yesterday with no link. I had to try and recall what my log was. It was, I recalled, a NM on a virtual cache in Antarctica with a heap of armcair "Found It" logs. I checked the listing and found all the fake logs had gone along with any NMs - like mine. CO doing some "tidying" perhaps? The OM was. "Was soll der Blödsinn mit dem owner maintenance... wer nicht weis wie ein Virtual funktioniert sollte es lieber lassen...ich bezweifelle . das der maintenance logger vor ort war."
  5. I have a Multi where the final is located up a steep bank. The ground is slippery if wet and same if dry - sandy, loam, clay mix soil. There are a few small trees and lantana scrub which are not great or well placed for a hand hold. At one time the slope was grassy but drought and occasional cachers has damaged it. I have it rated as T3, some cachers think it should be a little higher, why? Because they take a direct, uphill assault on GZ from a track. However, if they continue along the track about another 10 metres or so, they can access GZ from one side which is a gentler gradient with a few convenient trees to grip - much easier. It often pays to look for an alternative route. In Honour of Sgt Lindsay Multi-cache GC6XG1Q
  6. I have to admit, in my experience as a CO, I have rarely seen a NM logged on any of my caches by a DNFer. This week I checked on one of mine that had four DNFs in a row - it was still there although it is a D4. This cache, in ten years, has had 101 Finds and 57 DNFs but not a single NM or NA.
  7. It was frustrating for me when I brought a bunch of TBs from Oz to drop off on a Budapest/Amsterdam cruise. By the end of the cruise, due to micros listed as small I was getting desperate to get rid of them. Not many genuine small or even regular containers along tourist routes.
  8. I use a lanolin based spray (Lanotec) to treat O rings. It helps them last much much longer and adds a little waterproofing effect too.
  9. Tried Harbor Freight? https://www.harborfreight.com/397-piece-metric-o-ring-assortment-67580.html I get the same thing here from Aldi. Lots of rings, different sizes. I also find them handy for other things besides geocaching bison tubes. e.g garden hose connectors.
  10. This also had me flummoxed for a while until I found Keystone's solution accidently. To me, "Press Enter to Send" is a useless option.
  11. I didn't know about it until I read this thread. So, I went and checked and there they are, little numbered boxes. Paused. I just went and had another look at the map (GC.com) and they're no longer showing.
  12. I always go with my Garmin averaged coordinates. I also check them on different days and take several averaged readings then average the averages. I also test them with my phone (Motorola). I never look at them on any map as this is, IMO, only a rough indication at best of times.
  13. For me, if you have to visit WP1 to solve a puzzle to get coordinates, it's a multi with a Field Puzzle attribute. I have a few like that. Sea Eagle Lookout Walking Trails Multi-cache GC6DVPF
  14. Why can't your friend log them? Not really his account? Does he have a seperate account? IMO if you didn't find them, you don't log them.
  15. I have a few ammo can caches. I put log book and pen in one baggie and swag in another. "Belts and braces". Never had one leak yet.
  16. I have found that Sistema have redisgned their gasket. It is now an interference seal instead of a nylon(?) O ring and works very well. Only problem I have found so far, after doing some recent maintence for damp logs, is that finders are not closing them properly. They need a bit of pressure on the lid and the sealing clips give loud "clicks" if they have been closed properly.
  17. I was there on a cruise early June this year. Never thought to check for earthcaches. To busy taking in the scenery.
  18. I thought algorithyms keep track of NMs - health scoring?
  19. Just yesterday I had to do OM on two of mine. One had been logged as log soaked the other had a damp log. Neither had a NM but I read the logs. The first one was a little odd as the container, a screwtop plastic jar, was bone dry but the baggie containing the log was wet inside. The other was a mint tin the lid hinge had rusted through, there was water in it but the log, in a little baggie, was ok. Recently, in Canada, I found a "Maple" mint tin. These tins have a flip top lid so I thought I would try it and brought one home. It became the replacement. BTW, I paint mint tins with Rustoleum and they last quite well.
  20. You are assuming the CO will read the log, many don't. One of my irks is that when finders notice a problem with any of my caches, nine times out of ten they only make a mention in their Found log. I would prefer they log NMs. That gets my attention.
  21. It unusually warmer here ATM with a month to go until spring - 20C-24C. Plants in my garden are flowering now, much earlier than usual. A very hot el Nino summer is predicted.
  22. That's a tricky one. Have other seekers had the same problem? Or perhaps they did the same as you, contacted the CO for the info. If that's the case the problem could be ongoing. If others have logged a DNF or mentioned a problem in their logs I'd log NM. If not, I'd put it on my watch list and see how it goes with a possibility it may not be missing at all.
