  1. I wrote an ap that will change the Geocache ID in .loc files based on data from the geocaching.com HTML page as an alternative to manually changing them. Check it out (see my sig) Use my Iconverter software to customize geocache symbol, ID, and comment fields with geocache type and diffuclty/terrain ratings! Also install custom geocache icons on your Magellan 315/320. http://home.mn.rr.com/pbe/
  2. Try my Magellan 315/320 geocaching icon software! http://home.mn.rr.com/pbe/
  3. Umm, yeah... nowhere was it implied Magellan was going out of business or anything. As for the REI website, I wouldn't necessarily expect to find the bargain prices there. Clearing shelf space at the brick & mortar stores would be the reason to lower the prices and move the stock off the shelves. I may have to go tomorrow and check it out! Thanks AR! 4. Here's what I do: Plastic bike mount ring from some bike accesory (light, reflector, I don't know what it was from) Thread screw from a computer cable connector through the screw holes on the ring into the back of the Mag315 Twist tie through battery compartment screw ring around head of handlebar (prevents rotation of GPS and backup in case screw comes loose) I was quite happpy the first time I thought about using the GPS on my bike and found I had everything I needed! Finding a handlebar mount ring is probably the tricky part PlaysByEar Check out my Mag315 Geocaching icon software! http://home.mn.rr.com/pbe/
  5. I'm relieved that was the only problem.. I may have to fix it to work with older versions of EasyGPS though I created this because I had the same problem you had--I found myself looking for a real cache at a virtual cache location. Boy did I feel dumb when I found out. To answer your question--the icons are based on the images on this website. You can see them all here: http://www.geocaching.com/about/cache_types.asp Also if you're editing a waypoint on the GPS, the type name will appear when you select an icon.
  6. It might just be becuase you're scanning a new .loc file which is in XML format rather than the native LOC format. Solution: Open and immediately save the .loc file in EasyGPS. This will convert the format. Then again, it may just be because I'm not the best programmer. Can anyone tell me if it works for them?
  7. Are you the type who likes to have different icons for each type of geocache? Do you find yourself painstakingly changing symbols in EasyGPS whilst referring to the list on geocaching.com? I do, so I wrote a program to do it for me. It maps each type to a different flag, marker, etc. If you never use these icons anyway, why not pretend they mean something else? If you have a Magellan 315/320, you're REALLY in luck because I've changed the symbols on the GPS to look like the geocaching types on this website! You can download these programs at http://home.mn.rr.com/pbe/ Let me know what you think!
  8. I've been working on a program that does something like this. I've altered the icons on my Mag 315 to geocaching type icons. Also, I wrote a program to change the symbols in .loc files to match these icons. Have a look see at http://home.mn.rr.com/pbe/ Though the 315 hack won't be useful to other model owners, the HMTL conversion program might. If they really don't have any use for day markers, buoys, etc, they may be able to get used to how it looks on their gps. Right now it only changes geocaches it finds in HTML, but with a little gentle coaxing I could make it work as requested above

  10. Look what I did, mom! I've just replaced eight icons on the 315 with geocaching icons (matching the geocaching type "cans" on this website). Would anyone like to try it out and tell me what they think? Let me know and I'll email you a copy of the binary. PlaysByEar
