  1. I have a cell phone app Geooh GO. Right from the home screen, I can tap on my account name to see my stats and logs for today. Or I can open the calendar and select any other time range. You have to save the results and go through the list to see the individual logs. Next time you want to relive the trip, you can just refresh the list.
  2. I just noticed this Great Story / Helpful feature and immediately came here to see what it is about. I realize that I am a cache finder, not a cache owner, so some people may not find my feedback helpful. For me, this looks like a way that I can get feedback for my contributions: Logs. I assumed that they are appreciated, I don't know. This feature will remind me (and possibly others) that people do read logs, so I should always put in the effort. (I saw this feature after I posted my last logs ) This does add two numbers to the database, so you can expect that people will count and compare them. Some will make it part of their game, just like best day or longest streak. My bet is that most will ignore these new flags, and the game will survive.
  3. What you are describing sounds like the functionality provided by the Project-GC GreaseMonkey script enhancement for Geocaching.com. Turn off that script and you are likely to see the coordinates disappear. You are right. Thanks.
  4. It sounds like you're describing the "Add a coordinate to this log" function, but that function is completely separate from the EXIF location data in photos. Uploading a geotagged photo shouldn't add the other setting unless you're using some 3rd-party tool that happens to do just that. I'm assuming you've already edited your log, because I don't see the coordinates anywhere and the image that's attached doesn't have any location data. I usually use GSAK for my logs and pictures, but this time I just used the Geocaching.Com web site. Since I don't do this often, I checked the results. I had to remove the EXIF data on my hard drive and load the sanitized photo. I browsed around other people's logs and saw others with the red & blue coordinates. I just recently loaded the GCCOMMENTS script to my browser.??? Just loaded another picture to GC254XG as an example.

  6. I just solved a puzzle GC3HQ7Z and took a picture of the log to prove that I was there. I used the web site to do the log, and I was horrified to see that I just posted the corrected coordinates in bold, coloured font. I was sure that this issue had been discussed before, and the conclusion was that there was never any good reason to keep the coordinates on uploaded photos, let alone display them boldly. Now I have to figure out how to post my photo without the coordinates.
  7. Just got a spam email this morning supposedly from Geocaching. Subject: [GEO] kings11me contacting Dave.Halpenny from Geocaching.com. Reply to Gmail.com. No obvious links to far away websites.
  8. I had to try the official instructions. If I change my android setting Language and region from English to French, I can switch from miles to KM. With some side effects. It works. My foreign friends will be impressed. But I like your idea better. The app should use my GS preferences.
  9. I was thinking that the app should synch itself with my GS profile. It has always been metric.
  10. Pup Patrol gave the proper first response for this forum. He told me to re-read the instructions closely and become more confused. Now I am more convinced that the only clean way of doing this is to offer the geocacher the choice. I plan on traveling a few hundred kilometers to a land that uses different units of measurements. I might want to talk to the locals, and maybe even go out geocaching with them. Is it 30 feet that-a-way or 10 meters over there? This may not be the forum to ask this question, but should I be able to see my country displayed somewhere around the region settings on my android. I have no idea where it thinks I live.
  11. This app tells me that I must use miles for distance. I disagree. After a bit of research, I find that my cell phone's System language & region setting has two options: English or French. A bit more research tells me that there is an app to change that. Another way is through Google's payment center. My credit card had expired. Apparently a new credit card number verified by a real purchase will change something. I hope there is a third option. Even if this app provides me my preferred choice, I still would like the option to switch. I may soon be visiting a country that still uses miles, and I may want to go local.
  12. I'm pretty sure the units are set based on the regional settings of your phone. Have you checked that you have that set correctly? My iPhone is set to "Canada" and all distances are displayed in metric in the app. I assume there's a similar setting on Android devices. I don't see anything like that. (Have I told you lately how much I love my phone?). This is the only app that has this issue. I appreciate the fact that someone made the effort to anticipate my needs, but I appreciate the freedom to be different. Is this thing supposed to switch whenever I cross the border? Another reason why I want to have it under my control.
  13. If you want me to use this app, you must provide the ability to use metric units. It would be nice to have the choice of imperial units too, but it is not important to me right now. Before my android cell phone will run this properly it must be able to put everything (especially offline maps) on the SD card.
  14. sorry... I am not a proficient forum poster. I don't see a delete button for duplicate posts. Ignore this message.
  15. I have the same problem. I found the solution (I hope) at http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/75959.html The script was not running on httpS://Geoocaching.com, so I added it to the list. Apparently, the maps section of the web site is now secure. The script also requires that you set your map preferences to Leaflet instead of Google Maps.
  16. I tried the "Post to Facebook" feature.... my facebook friends who do not have a geocache account did not appreciate it. They did not get the whole story. As far as blogging, it would be nice to have a feed from my logs to by blog. Since I use up all my literary creativity on my logs, by blog has suffered. There is a gsak macro PrintDiary that might be a starting point. It just consolidates your logs into one text. It may be great for when I write my memoirs, but for now it needs work.
  17. There are also people that know that "what can be done" is not always the same as "what should be done". It is really interesting how many posts came from Groundspeak. That tells me "what will be done".
  18. My thoughts exactly. It took a couple of attempts before they got it right. Most of my Facebook friends don't geocache, so they filtered out the old posts as Facebook Fluff. Now they can see what Geocaching is all about and maybe try it out themselves. Or at least enjoy the stories. It also encourage me to complete the experience with proper logs. None of that TFTF nonsense.
