  1. I don't know if this is the same issue but I was having trouble with getting geocache symbols to appear on my Montana 610t map, though caches were loaded to the device. I discovered I had inadvertently set the geocaching quick filter status to "did not find" only. Hit your geocaching icon on the main page, then quick filter, then select status at the bottom, then I selected "unattempted" and "found" - viola - there they are !
  2. FYI - went to MOGA and the "discovered" for my vehicle TB came flooding in !
  3. so my vehicle TB needs to be in my trackables collection and not my trackables inventory to be discovered ? I know people have written down the number but I've seen no "discovered" logs yet so trying to see if that is the problem. I don't know for afact that anyone has tried to discover or not so maybe they haven't. Thx for the help ! still a newbie
  4. similiar question - so if I have a new TB on my vehicle, people can still "discover" it and log that they discovered even if the collectible box is not checked ? In other words, a TB that stays on your vehicle would be another example of one to mark not collectible, or is that preventing it from being discovered ?
  5. Yes - the one's I have seen would have been pubished before the guidelines - so I'll just ignore them. I am curious if anone had that happen on a new challenge, would you E-mail or just ignore ? Thx for the prompt replies
  6. I have been caching just short of a full year with about 1,600 finds; as I log more finds I see I am eligible for more challenges so I'm starting to seek them out. I have noticed several in my area that do not meet the guidelines to challenge caches - they specify a certain percentage of a certain size or a certain D/T rating be maintained by the finder to log. I'm curious what others have done; do you E-mail the owner pointing out the guidelines, or just ignore it ?
  7. I was curious about this topic since we are still fairly new. I agree with all and TB's were meant to move and do not require leave one to take one. I also agree you take as many as you want as long as you keep them moving. I had 4 in possession not too long ago, got rid of all but 1 (that needs to go somewhere special) within a week. I like the suggestion about starting your TB in your hands to get some miles. We have placed 2, one has gone less than 30 miles in 3 months and one is still sitting there after one month. The one that hasn't moved we wanted to launch from our own cache, but they aren't visited that much, so we are going to pick up tonight and take to a new TB hotel in front of soemone's house; they say they travel and want to have access to TB's to take with them, so I trust they will get it moving. Good idea to use a newer well visited cache, but not one likely to be muggled. That's why the TB hotels on people's property are a great place. Interstate rest areas are also popular for TB's since they tend to be frequented often and by people heading all over the U.S. , just check logs and look for many finds and no reports of missing containers/ maintenance . Happy caching !
  8. I have a Garmin eTREX 20 and had the same question recently. I haven't tried it yet but assuming I should be able to delete once plugged into the computer; there is no command , that I have found, to do it when unplugged from puter. I often load some caches in an area where i know I will be traveling - if it's a long ways away and i know I won't be back, there's no point in keeping ones I didn't find or even hunt. Thx for the feedback
  9. I've just started caching and this subject has occurred to me as well, but only because I frequently see people refer to secrecy in their logs. I haven't seen anywhere in the descriptions of caching that your activity should remain secret. I also prefer the country/park caches, but this weekend was going after a few urban ones. I didn't feel that comfortable in areas with high traffic, but I did not attempt to hide the fact I was looking for something. I think what is more suspicious is trying to hide what your doing. As Chief301 mentions above, these are placed ( or should be ) in public places - as long as your not trespassing, who cares ? I usually have at least one of my 3 kids, it's hard to be stealthy with 3 kids climbing everything in sight ! As far as being questioned, I haven't been stopped by any "officals" but when you park on a country road in the middle of nowhere people are going to stop and ask questions or ask if you need help, at least where I live. Happened to me this weekend and I just told them what I was doing , they smiled and said that explained why they've seen people in that area. I encourage everyone to enjoy caching as you see fit ! It's a great hobby .
  10. Wow - what an active board - I can't believe I had that many responses so quickly. I decided what I will do is tell my co-worker if he does want to go back and find it using the hint, to open an account and start geocaching himself. I would not want him to sign my name. This is a hobby for my kids and I to share, so if anyone of us finds one on a hunt, we found it as a team; but I wouldn't want to have anyone else sign our name to a log, even if I did get them most of the way there. I may be able to go back to PR and find it myself next year. Next time I will translate the hints before I go ! actually the one I did find I think would have been way too easy with the hint - I'm glad I found it without. FYI - 84 when I left PR yesterday - 19 when I got home ! Thanks for all the responses - this is a great hobby and great community
  11. I'm a newbie with a dilemma . I am in U.S. and went to Puerto Rico this week for business. I was able to load a few caches in my GPS and was pleased to see some very close to places I was visiting. So I was able to hunt for these two while there. One I did find ( yeah ! ) the other I could not, I even had two muggle co-workers helping, since we were literally across the street from the hide eating lunch one day. After returning to the US and logging , I saw the hints ( had not read them before) and now I have a good idea of where the one that I could not find is located. One of my co-workers who was with me is still in PR - I have sent him the hint. If he is to go back and look and find, do you think it's ethical for him to sign the log on my behalf, and I record as my find ? I'm thinking "no" - but just curious to what others think (or have done). Maybe I've missed it on the website - are there specifc rules I can reference ?
