So by reasoning, if an owner cannot find and log their own cache, why isn't that an equal substitute? When I don't put in the hider's geonick in Not Found By, all their hides do appear, but when I put in their geonick in Not Found By, a significant majority, but not all, are eliminated from the search. The photo above shows a search result where I inserted the CO's name in the Not Found By. 23 of their hides were returned in the search, as compared to over 100 when their name was not inserted in the Not Found By. I'm trying to figure out why things work one way and not another way. I don't know GSAK, don't know that I want to invest a ton of time learning a third-party, and really cannot afford to add more apps to my phone due to its overtaxed status because a medical device, a CGM, I operate with my phone combined with company's infrequent app updates, makes upgrading my phone to a new model unfeasible, because the new model won't allow for an iOS 16 system, which is the latest company approved iOS. It's not convenient and is frustrating, but it does make my life much easier to manage, so I live with an iPhone 8 running a 16.5 iOS. I agree with others' requests that to minimize disagreements between cachers, being able to eliminate a cacher's hides altogether would be a viable method to deescalate tensions and frustrations.

Thank you for the reply. I am curious though, why not found by will not help. I seriously was asking how does an owner find his own cache? No, I am not a GSAK or Cachly user. I use the geocaching.com on a laptop, app, and a GPSr, Garmin Colorado 400.

I would like to avoid hides by some specific cachers. I was looking for some Challenge caches, so I entered "Challenge" in the "Geocache name contains" field; I clicked enabled in the "Cache Status" field; Found Status field I chose "Not found by me," which autopopulated my geonick in the "Not found by." I then entered the names of the two hiders whose caches I want to avoid in the "Not found by." In the "Owner status field," I clicked "Caches I don't own." In the "Geocache Type" field, I Deselected All, and then I chose only the Mystery. From that point onward, I selected no other filters, and chose Apply. Lo and behold, both their names appeared in my search results, many times but not as many active caches as they have. I was surprised, so I tried only having their name in the "Not found by" category, eliminating my name and the other cacher's name. Same results appeared for the cacher's name which was typed in the "Not found by" and obviously, all the caches hidden by the other cacher that I removed from that category. I then tried variations of filters, but I could never eliminate the two cachers' hides from my searches, so I know I am doing something wrong, but I am stumped as to what combination of dos and don'ts I need to execute to achieve my goal. I would appreciate the help greatly. I have included a photo but have redacted names; however, the first name in my filter is the hider, same name/spelling/icon, of the caches that appear. How does one log their own cache?

I've cached off and on but have been away from the forums, as our area has great support groups. Many are frustrated in our area due to this particular hider's numbers addiction skewing his hides and logs. Will the Reviewer see the Reviewer Attention Requested, as well?

I logged a Needs Archived on a cache that was hidden as a specific type of cache but is not being maintained that way. CO lives a long way from cache, so has granted others permission to maintain cache for him. This is a power trail group of caches. CO deleted my Needs Archived Cache log on the one I found and logged and deleted my Reviewer Attention Requested Note on the Cache I found but did not sign the paper log nor log online. The first cache I found and logged was a red bison tube hanging in a tree. The gold bison tube is from the #2 in the series. The photo is a the cache owner commenting publicly in a private group. These are being maintained as a way for cachers to meet challenge requirements, but in no way shape or form is this current hide a Letterbox Hybrid, neither is #1, #3, and #4 in the series. I have not wasted my time finding the rest, because I came to these caches to find LBHs, not Traditionals.

All of these comments really begin to make sense of what Waymarking is, especially the advice to divest Waymarking from Geocaching and the topics. I don't know if I will ever waymark, but I do know I am kind of crazy about bridges, so maybe I can use Waymarking to bring me to some interesting bridges. I'm glad someone is asking this question. I am not being flippant, just trying to understand. If a geocache, a virtual, and a Wherigo take people on pretty much the same outing as Waymarking, what is the point of both bringing people to the same site? I'm trying to understand Waymarking, but I'm also overlapping the 1/10th rule of Geocaching as well. I know Benchmark Blasterz's tour and the plethora of downtown Dallas' many Waymarks, but I've used a virtual to take me to the JFK site, and the Wherigo, and the Traditional, and I am just confused as to why a Waymark doesn't meet the 1/10th rule so that the saturation point is, well, not so saturated, because Benchmark Blasterz did not exaggerate the number of Waymarks in the downtown Dallas area. I am assuming Waymarking saturation is also the case for many metropolises, as well. If a 1/10th overlap does exist, why not address by chronological order? I do know a Virtual and physical cache don't have to meet the 1/10th rule, but many COs police their own and try to avoid the overlap in my experience. Again with the JFK theme but to serve as an example, 9Key archived the very popular Virtual he had at the Texas Theatre when a Traditional showed up bringing folks to the Texas Theatre. I guess what I need to know is: What am I doing in Waymarking? How is Waymarking different from Geocaching, keeping Virtuals in mind? What is Waymarking's purpose? I know I could probably have found more Waymarks than I have Geocaches, but I am failing to understand Waymarks and have given up several times after looking at them. I even took a photo with 8 Nuts at an event holding up a Waymarking logo, but I failed to understand them then.

As an historian, public historian, and archivist, here are some international societies which may be consulted: International Committee of Historical Sciences; International Council on Archives, which does limit the victor narrative, International Historical Club. As with lab caches, it could be field tested in areas with stronger history societies and archive societies, such as in the US: Society of American Archivists or National Council on Public History. Just a thoughtful response to Keystone's question.

I am trying to do the same thing. My longest streak is 127 days, which ended because I became really sick and just didn't feel like going out. I enjoy caching and 2018 is seeing the fruition of several goals. I will say, some of the caches I am finding are skirt lifters, WHICH I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE! They are nearby wherever I am, and I am "seizing the moment." As a result, the standard of caches for which I normally search has declined and often makes me shake my head at A. what people will hide, B. what Groundspeak will allow to be hidden, C. it is about numbers; otherwise, who would hide a cache in a Wal-mart parking lot? What is ever interesting about a Wal-mart parking lot? and lastly, D. to what level am I willing to stoop for a goal? Currently, I am happy at working toward this goal, which I feel is what it needs to be for anyone. We have a couple in our area with a lot of hides, almost 900 caches, and they ended their daily caching streak at 10,000+. They are now second on the all-time COTD. When it the goal becomes a task or a chore, that's when I'll quit the goal. Grad school interfered with my ability to cache decently for several years, so now I am trying to make-up for not getting to cache and hide as often. I try my best to plan and find my cache earlier in the day rather than later, but I am willing to go out with a flashlight and search. Currently, I am at 64 days. I, too, have tried to save the ones closer to home, but sometimes, they are my late-at-night searches. Also, remember this, when you say Yes to something, you are simultaneously saying No to something else. If you are fine with "your No," then cache on. So far, I have made sure it does not interfere or cheat someone else in my family, so that's why I'm happy with the goal.

That seems odd. There are clearly many LBH caches which are just a traditional with a stamp. Like a traditional, they just use the posted coordinates. Following on from that, I've seen LBH caches which you need to go to the posted coordinates (that's GPS use), then follow clues. To insist that the GPS is used in the "follow clues" part I find surprising. This is something that I have just recently encountered with an LBH I am trying to get published. I have published several LBHs, but now, I have a cache in the hopper that is not being published. I gave coordinates for cachers to get to the cemetery's historical marker; then, I gave clues as to what they needed to find the final. The first time the reviewer disabled the listing asked if this was a multi-stage LBH. I replied that it was, even though I had submitted two different GPS coords, and now, I have the reviewer asking how does the historical marker get cachers to the final. In this cache's instance, the marker is the starting point, and doesn't direct cachers to the final. However, I think the reviewer is wanting a specific set of coords, not clues in the description. I am trying to figure out a way that combines the Letterboxing guidelines with the GC's guidelines. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does anyone know if the National Park Service also has their own database as was suggested with the COE? With the extreme low waters at Lake Amistad in 2013, we found a benchmark in excellent shape and snapped a photo, only to be unable to log it. We just returned from a trip down there this past week, and snapped a photo of the geodisk at Panther Cave, and are also unable to log it. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

I guess users paying attention or applying is the rub. I just deleted another log, whose log stated, "Found It but I didn't do the questions," and that was after I had provided this link in the Summary Click here for how to find an EarthCache, which links to topic 4.10 in the Help Center about Logging an EarthCache or Virtual Cache. I may just make them Premium for a while, but with the other reply that the new app only shows Traditional caches to Basic Membership subscribers, I can't figure out the best way to keep getting slammed from new cachers, and all have been new cachers 45 finds or less, when I haven't had this problem to this extent. Prior to the new app, I would have about 1 log without answers or goofy log about every six months, if that. I've deleted 10 in the last week, alone.

However, with this volume of new cachers, they have no idea how to search for an EarthCache, at least, and probably other cache types where answers need to be submitted. Is there any way the types of caches that need answers messaged or e-mailed can have some kind of pop-up that links to Groundspeak's help link on how to find that cache type? I have been inundated with requests for help, logs showing the Found It icon but with the message saying they couldn't find the container or don't do it unless you like [insert topic of EarthCache]. I do have the disclaimer that they need to e-mail me, which is active, or message me on all three EarthCaches. I am going to link to Groundspeak's help section on EarthCaches, but I'd appreciate some help from Groudspeak, as this problem did not exist prior to the free app. All my EarthCaches are open to all members, and I would like to keep it that way, but help for the COs is needed.

Does Earthcache.org or Geocaching.com own the trademark for the EarthCache logo?

Several individuals cached together and found one of my Earthcaches. I received two e-mails and one message from the individuals containing the requisite answers. I want to reply to these cachers by typing one message and sending it to all three recipients simultaneously. Every time I type one cacher's geonick, the one that was previously in the To: bar disappears. Are multiple recipients possible with Messages? If so, would someone mind telling me how to do this? Oh, I am using Google Chrome. Thanks, in advance!

I have viewed some other cachers' lists who have completed Challenges that have the caches in the list sorted alphabetically by their Comment. Where in GC.com can I go to figure out how to do this?

Thanks everyone! It is a program that installed on my computer 4/30/2014. I don't know what I clicked to let it install, but I uninstalled the program, and the problem is solved!

Using Google Chrome web browser, when I visited the website tonight, 30 April 2014, I noticed an ad above the entire GC.com page, a pop-up box appeared in the lower right corner of my screen, and an ad appeared at the bottom of the entire GC.com page. The ads are by RRSavings.com. Have these ads been there prior to the most current, April 2014, update? Are these ads occurring in other web browsers?

I have explored the App over the past two days, and I like most everything. The only thing I find difficult is there is too much white and not enough contrast, which makes reading the screens a little more difficult. After awhile, it hurts my eyes. A feature I would like to see employed in the next update is a direct way to get to the Geocaching.com website. In the last version and this version, users must select a cache, then the three dots in upper right corner, then choose open this cache in Geocaching.com. Why I think touching the word Geocaching and going directly to the website view, for example, above user avatar and geonick, would be beneficial is: I have a bookmark list of a Challenge that requires cachers to find 50 of the oldest 113 active caches in my state. Since these caches are spread throughout, I like to get to the bookmark list of these caches when I am in a cache's neighborhood. To get to my list, I just pick any cache, click on it, click the upper right three dots, choose the open in Geocaching.com, and then I ignore the cache and get to the Lists, instead. Another reason I think this would be convenient is logging Virtuals and Earthcaches, for example. I found a Virtual, 4/29/14, but I had to go through the steps to open the cache on the website so I could contact the CO letting them know the answer to their requirement to be able to log the Virtual as found. A last example is, I opened a cache in my Saved offline lists that I did not plan on finding, but I wanted to get to the website, because something I saw today in caching caused me to want to purchase something from GC.com. I used the cache, went through the steps, and made it to the website link I wanted. When I have the luxury of planning my trips and knowing which caches I want to find/purchases I want to make, this doesn't seem to be as much of an inconvenience, but when I discover that I am going to be in a place where I had little or no time to plan, getting to the full features of the website more efficiently is really beneficial.
