That about sums it up . . .

I would strongly suggest that you also get paper topos and a good compass and learn how to use them, given your situation. Murphy's Law states that as soon as you get lost your GPSr will fail.

Do You Carry a Gun While Geocaching?
pcunningham replied to simpjkee's topic in General geocaching topics
Interesting, in that you live in a state that does not require any licensing or training for concealed carry and yet has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. If you interact with society at all you are around guns all day, every day whether you know it or not. -

That re-states the premise and doesn't answer the question. -

And how do you determine if an area is unsafe or not? -

Although I, personally, would never carry any gun not in a holster, people have been carrying J-frames and similar revolvers around in pockets for decades with no abnormal reports of negligent discharges. I carry either a S&W 642 or a Seecamp LWS-32 in a pocket when I decide to go about unarmed and have never had the slightest concern. A semi-auto should be no different unless a WECSoG graduate did a trigger job on it. Of course, the same can be said of the revolver. -
Question for those who geocache armed:

I've heard the easiest way to identify grizzly bear droppings is that it smells like bear repellent spray and has little bells in it . . . -

I like the way you think. An excellent argument for Class III. -

96%. I don't know the test maker's answer to the 9mm vs. .40 question but I have a feeling I'd probably disagree with him. -

Indeed. The person is the weapon. Guns, knives, bricks, rope, pencils, etc., are merely tools. -

Hmm . . . exactly opposite of my outlook. I'd feel more comfortable hiking in the woods unarmed than walking in the streets in the same condition. Thankfully, I don't have to choose. -

Personally, I respect him more for knowing himself, his capabilities, and for living within his limitations than I do a person who would judge another person's character based on one Internet posting . . . -
That's what I figured. I carry a pair of cheap Tasco binoculars for shirt pocket carry, however I won't recommend them.
-
I sometimes carry a pair of Nikon 10x50 Action EX binoculars on short jaunts in the woods and while kayaking. They're pretty big and heavy for long treks, but they're tough, waterproof, and the glass is clear.

Do You Carry a Gun While Geocaching?

"Don't get involved, let us experts handle it." Pay no attention to suffering. It's not your job; someone else will handle it. That's the antithesis of the America I grew up in. We are judged on how we treat the innocent as well as on how we treat the guilty. You did the right thing, but then you knew that. -
Do You Carry a Gun While Geocaching?
pcunningham replied to simpjkee's topic in General geocaching topics
Yes, but because I geocache while armed, not because I'm armed while geocaching. I also kayak, shop, hike, etc., while armed. Animals, at least the type to which you refer, do not concern me. I was raised to be self-reliant. I would not ask the police to protect me and my loved ones if I'm not willing to protect myself. I respect those who choose not to. It's a personal choice and certainly not for everyone. -
If you are comfortable relying solely on laws, the police, and luck to protect your loved ones from society's predators that is your right and, while I can't conceive of that way of thinking, I fully support your right to believe that way and to act accordingly. However, to cast aspersions on honorable people who think differently and who choose to be self-reliant, by calling into question their mental capacity and engaging in sophmoric name-calling is highly arrogant. Such behavior can only come from ignorance.

does anyone use the Gamin adhesive dash mount
pcunningham replied to GPS Derek's topic in GPS technology and devices
I had one on for about six months, had no issues, pulled it off because I thought I had to when I changed GPSr's, stuck another one on and have used that one with no problems for about a year. No gum or damage when I pulled it off. -
One brand of mouse GPS is listed here. The PC-based land navigation software associated with that mouse GPS is here. If it doesn't work with your GPS you may want to contact the manufacturer and ask them for suggestions.
