  1. Most of them are planned, but the GPS in the car is preloaded with the local caches incase I have some spare time while out and about.
  2. You could also run a pocket query and set it to display recommended at night or flashlight required attributes.
  3. Here we go.... http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=9296d479-7b78-424e-9f11-2d9b03334c7c
  4. Photography is a major part of geocaching for me, I try to upload at least one picture for each cache I have found. I prefer the "remote" caches where there are some better photo ops and less chance of muggles
  5. Not sure which etrex you have, but go into settings and make sure that the USB mode has been set to mass storage. Have you installed the Garmin Communicator software? Also plug the USB cable in a few minutes before you are ready to copy the GPX files as it takes a little while to boot into storage mode.
  6. It is a great idea to first try the phone apps, as they represent a small investment if it turns out that Geocaching is not for you.
  7. Not 100% sure but I assume that it would be the same as on my etrex 10. Go into way point manager select the way point you are after (in this case the cache) A screen with the cache number, location, elevation, and map and OK buttons appear. Press the button on the left hand side bottom (EDIT, just checked and it is called the menu button), this brings up a context menu. Select Project Way point. Enter bearing in degrees Set projection distance units Enter distance It should then save Select new way point under way point manager and navigate.
  8. Haven't tried painting a GPS, but I would assume that it would be the same as most plastic products. Something like model spray paint would do the trick, but make sure a coat of clear/sealant to finish.
  9. Couple of ideas; Whistles Kid friendly toys Carbiner clips Pathtags Compass Foreign coins Cache tool kit related (mirror, pens, tweezers, etc) Souvenirs from another state/country
  10. FTF means First To Find and indicates that the cacher was the first to find the cache after being published.

  12. Fraternal Greetings from Wooroora Lodge #21, South Australia.
  13. I trade swag if I find something that I like, otherwise I normally just leave one or two items if there is room. The exception is that if I really enjoyed searching for the cache and it looks a little sickly, I will fill the container up with swag to show my appreciation to the owner.
  14. As a newbie the most important thing I have found. GOOGLE EARTH IS YOUR FRIEND Most of the "hunt" can be done with Google earth, you can identify possible hiding places and spot landmarks to make things easier when at ground zero.
  15. I have an eTrex 10 as well and have both GLONASS and GPS enabled and accuracy is normally around 3 meters. Haven't tried running either by themselves but using both apparently improves accuracy.
