  2. That commercial was pretty good, I liked it...but they should of had a GPS V instead. Geez....Whats all this about ? Garmin vs. Magellan Coke vs. Pepsi Chevy vs. Ford The only 3 words anyone needs to know... Garmin, Dr. Pepper, and Jeep.
  3. Just a tip, since I dont know of any software or websites for that. Can you manualy enter adresses into your GPSr? If so it should give you the coords after you enter "map" or "go to", Im not to fimiliar with many units and dont know what you have, but mine does that. And it dont take any longer than entering the coords. Sorry for not being much help , just something you might try.
  4. Cooool Thanks a bunch! This just keeps getting better...now can I expect an overdose of geocache.com and go all nutty? ...I sure hope so Iowageocachers only has a link to this forum , unless I missed something.
  5. I wasnt sure where to post this... Is there someplace for members to just chat? I dont feel right sending messages to people I dont know, but would like to ask questions like...anyone gonna cache around Altoona today? or... so what time are you gonna be there? or just a place to chat like... I got tired from all the walking and sat on a log and fell right over the other side, it was so funny! <--- never happened Mostly just a place for people to get to know eachother, I want to meet fellow cachers from my area but dont want people mad at me because a stranger is sending them messages...or is there a certain area of this site to post these types of things under? I figure there has to be a place somewhere for this, but I cant find anything. I just want to meet new people and make some new friends. "Hi, you dont know me..but you wanna go find a cache with me? I swear im not a psycho killer"
  6. I did see one of these types of containers that look like an outside outlet and thought about how funny it would be to put one next to a tree in the middle of the woods, I didnt realize this included the "fake" stuff and thought it was just for real electrical boxes & such wich I thought made sense, but after reading the starting post I can understand how this could cause problems and become unsafe. Even though I love my idea for a funny "electrcal tree" , I agree that they shouldnt be allowed. What about a phone? Could a tree in the woods have a telephone? Camo of course.
  7. That does make sense...it just sounded like a good idea when I typed it . I havnt had this problem yet and was just thinking about what would worry me about private property cache searches. I suppose once I get a couple under my belt I will realize there isnt so much to worry about. (newbie concerns I guess)
  8. Click on one of the pictures...that works.
  9. I know a manager at a local Walmart so I asked thier thoughts on this, from what I understand is that if there are any caches on Walmart property the person who placed it there did not have permission to place it on the property because it would not be allowed so therfore he / she would be trespassing. In this case...say the store manager gave permission (and it would HAVE to be the store manager...and highly unlikely), if security says it cant be there then they can make you remove it. Since I have never hid my own cache Im not 100% sure how this works, but if a cache is placed on private property shouldnt the permission of the landowner be verified before the cache is approved? False statements of approval could lead to a cachers arrest or even worse getting shot at by the land owner...even if the land owner is just shooting warning shots in the air its an experience I wouldnt like to have. And in my opinion I think this would be a very fast way to give geocachers a bad name.
  10. Cool, thanks for the link. No subscription ? bummer. HAHAHAHAHAHA
  11. What about boaters dry boxes, they are very waterproof and air tight and can withstand the elements. They are about the size of an ammo can but lighter, I was thinking of trying one if I ever decide to make a cache...anyone ever use these?
  12. Lets see...stuff I carry. GPSr Camera (and Lens Pen) batteries (for GPSr and an extra one for my camera) Hiking staff Pencil Pocket knife to sharpen pencil Other knife (depends on where I go) Sunglasses Danner GoreTex boots (keep those feet dry) Stuff that stays in my truck...unless Im going to need it. JetBoil stove and noodles (If Im going to be out for awhile) Note book of coords (no printer so I hand write them) State map Topo map Sportsmans atlas Compass Squirel & Deer call (for my photography) Back pack Rain coat
  13. Thats funny stuff, thanks for posting the link! ... I dig the monkey, hahaha. And not trying to get OT but where in the world did he get that magazine, Todays Cacher? Is there really a magazine about caching or did they just make that for the video to be funny? Just thought it was cool.
  14. Wish I would of thought of that before...I could of used that TP for something else. Note to self...DUH! And here I was stuffing TP in that little hole, sheesh.
  15. What I found works good without adding any extra weight is stuffing toilet paper inside...single sheets of TP can be stuffed through the little hole pretty easy, once its full just twist on the topper...the paper will keep it from sliding to the sides. Hope this helps ya. PS. a little dab of silicone around the hole keeps the paper from getting wet...cuz then it dont work so good.
  16. Well if I understand this right, these are the same thing as virtuals? ... If not just call me silly newbie Then I would have to say that todays "A Grave Sight" would be my favorite...since it was my first and aparently last one...bummer. I really liked doing it, even though I live only a couple miles from this park I think of all the other neat places doing this could of taken me without having to worry about finding a hide. At least I got to log at least one in my 3 days as a member. Will hate to see them go.
  17. I guess I will just change my avatar instead, a shot of me kayaking at Saylorville Lake should work. I just wanted something to coincide with my sig. item...if I ever find what im looking for . Thanks for the help El Diablo.
  18. I was excited to get out and find some caches when I signed up and never took the time to decide on a user name. And I see I have the option to change it in my profile, it says it wont effect my logs but will it effect my posts on the forum or anything else? I have a blue kayak that I love, and am currently trying to find some small blue kayak keychains or something for my sig. item and was thinking of something along the lines of my blue kayak for my user name...I will be easy to spot in the summer because its always on the roof of my Jeep too . Im not sure how I should go about doing this, I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.
  19. Very cool, hope to find one some day. Im still working on an idea...I know what I want but cant seem to find any.
  20. Thats too funny...pretty close too, I even got my hat on...just wish I was still that skinny
  21. As a newbie to this hobby...or "sport" as I am now thinking, you all have me worried a little. Since I love to be in the woods I figured that I would mostly hunt for caches that are in state parks and such...until I seen the pine cones and hollow tree stumps...one thing comes to mind, ( This is going to take awhile ). And the arm...now how would I look being seen running from the woods with wet pants and screaming like a little girl? hahahahaha
  22. Smith & Wesson 9" boot knife ... what? , its a Smith & Wesson I dont own a gun but I have seen the movie Deliverence , hahahaha. Nobody is gonna make me squeal like a pig!
  23. I shoot with a Nikon Coolpix 8800 8mp., I paid $1000 for it, but thats when it first came out. I was going to get the D70 but the price of lenses scared me away. And with the 8800 I get the macro and zoom lens in one "10x 350mm", plus its ED coated just like the SLR lenses. Its an awesome camera, I have a ton of photos on my web page, Im just an amature so dont expect to be amazed, lol. I get 15 scene modes, Auto, manual, program auto, and more. My favorite part is the flip & twist LCD...I dont need to lay on the ground for ground level shots. And they are alot cheaper now that they have been out for awhile. I have 2 batteries and a 1Gb CF card, I can fill the card with one battery if the image quality is high...8meg Extra for my nature photography. My mother uses the older Coolpix 2100 and the image quality is nearly as good but can cant make the 20x30+ inch prints that mine will, and not nearly as many options. It just depends on what you want it for...think ahead too, like maybe you will want to take family portraits later on, or special occasions where you will want a better camera. Any 2mp camera will take great snapshots, Kodak easy share cameras are a good choice, and Pentax Optio's are a great choice, small Nikon Coolpix, Canon Powershot...a few I would recomend looking at. 1. Decide what you will use it for...look to the future also 2. Then choose the camera that best suits your needs......If wasnt taking photography classes because I want to be a nature photographer, spending $1000 to take snapshots of caches or family picnics would of been pointless. Sorry, I just love to talk about cameras and photography... to long?
  24. I normaly try to stay within so many miles from my home, I have 835 caches within 100 miles of my home coords, 47 are within 10 miles so that should keep me busy for some time. I try to stay within 15 miles of home if I am going to be doing any "trekking" so my wife dont worry about me being alone to far from home while in the woods (This applies to everything including my birdwatching). I always make sure to tell her where I am going, I was in a bad accident at a grain elevator I worked at and have some physical limitations that can get me in trouble because of my love for adventure gets into places I may have trouble getting out of on my own, so I always let her know where I will be incase I dont make it home. So I feel lucky to have so many caches near by to keep me happy for awhile. Sorry for the long post, I have no friends and like to talk alot.
