Put in a reservation for my dad and I. Can't wait! -hybridgeek

Any cachers around the Rockville/Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village/Germantown (Maryland) areas that would like to split one of the LE Combos with me? I don't drive, so I need to find someone closer rather than farther, and I rather not have to ship the coins just so there isn't any extra cost associated. I figure there are so many cachers in the area, there's gotta be one close by who hasn't already buddied up. Thanks, -hybridgeek

Hmm... this is irking me. I tried counting again and got 50 now. And since others have said they counted 50, I'm guessing I must have counted a two-word country as two countries. Crud. Sorry for the scare. -Hybridgeek

Ok, I need one more person to verify there are 51 and I'll know I'm not crazy... but then again, maybe that's what you all want me to think.... .... .... Chances are we counted a two-word country as two different countries. I'm looking forward to find out the final consensus on how many are listed. -hybridgeek

I proof read all the countries and found no errors (although I had to check on a few only to find out I've been spelling them wrong for years!). I'm not sure if you did this on purpose, but after 3 counts, unless I added a country I shouldn't have (typed up list and counted, as well as visually on the coin picture), I see 51 countries on the coin. Coin looks great! I can't wait till they're out! -hybridgeek
  6. From just that small picture, this coin looks like it will be an incredible one! If you're making a list, put me down for 1 (or maybe 2...), and if not, I'll watch geoswag closely for the sale! Hybridgeek
  7. Can I still pick one up? It looks to be a really nice coin. Hybridgeek

As always, this looks to be an incredible coin! I'll definitely grab one as soon as you put up some pre-orders, and can't wait to get it! hybridgeek
  9. I have unfortunate news to add to the statistics. My BadAndy Coin Copy disappeared from a Virginia cache after moving 32 miles from it's starting place in Maryland. It simply disappeared from the cache with no log afterward, and confirmations it wasn't in the cache anymore. It is a sad day for this coin, and I hope it will re-emerge some day. -hybridgeek
  10. Thanks for the help. I'm just re-purposing the old page. -Hybridgeek
  11. A while back I started the review process for a cache, but I was denied by the land owner, and now have permission for another location, and would like to just completely delete my unpublished cache and make a new one; can I do this? Do I archive the cache? If I archive it, does it still show up that it once existed, even if unpublished? I'd really like to fully delete it... If I can't do this, can I just re-edit all the info? I was wondering about the moderator note; is the log it adds initially before it is submitted for approval the moderator tag? Or does an email actually go to a moderator with a note to not consider it until the cache is actually submitted? If someone could just clarify this for me, that'd be great. Thanks! Hybridgeek
  12. I've also managed to get 44... so my answers are either 44 or -134... working on it more... -Hybridgeek
  13. I'm a linux geek as well, but as often as Windows lets me down, I still keep a copy just for the sake of not having to deal with figuring out program conversions or using an emulator and such. I'd highly recommend doing a dual boot. Setup about 10-15 Gb on your hard drive for Windows, install it, and then install Linux and it's swap partition to the rest of the drive. You can use Lilo to dual boot between them. It's easy and it lets you just use Windows for those essential tasks easier done in Windows. If you want an extensive how-to on dual booting and dual installing, let me know and I can make one up for you. Good luck! Oh, and Suse 10.1 with KDE rocks; you should try it. -Hybridgeek
  14. Great coin! Honestly I don't think it can beat the first one, but I still love it! You've got one order here when it comes out! -Hybridgeek
  15. On a PC, you open up the "PalmOne Quick Install" program under Start > Programs > Palm Desktop. That usually will give you access to most of the programs or files you or many other programs will queue up for the next hotsync. I have encountered some cases where programs will add them, but they won't appear. Hope that helps! Good luck! (Hope this applies to Macs too) -Hybridgeek
  16. Sorry, you've exceeded my expertise. Perhaps a Mac bound cacher will stop in and know what's going on. Let me know if I can help with anything else. -Hybridgeek
  17. I have the 600 (that uses the same color screen as the 500) and having started first with a 400, I highly recommend the color screen. It isn't very reflective, but the gray screen forces you to use the backlight ALL the time. The color screens allow you to use minimal backlight in all conditions except super bright daylight. Just my couple cents there. Good luck! Hybridgeek
  18. Hmm... sorry ossumguywill, no mac expertise here. If your GPS and Palm are both serial, perhaps the CMConvert locked your serial port or damaged the drivers resulting in the Palm not hot syncing. If they are both serial, try playing with removing and reinstalling or somehow otherwise resetting your serial port (??can you do either of these on a mac??). Unless it's a hardware issue, I'm not sure I could make a guess as to any kind of connection between the two software packages that would cause a problem like that. Just a guess there. I'm not familiar with the Mac hardware interface layers. Good luck! -Hybridgeek
  19. Ok, here's a down and dirty basics how-to for using GSAK and Cachemate. I will backtrack some for logical reasons. Assume: - You already have your Pocket Querys unpacked and ready to load. - GSAK is installed and configured - Cachemate is loaded on your Palm and configured - You're using Cachemate for Palm OS GSAK: 1) Ensure you are in your desired GSAK database. The database selector is in the upper right hand corner of the window, or is accessible under the "Database" pulldown menu. 2) Open GSAK and select "File > Load GPX/LOC File" 3) If you are going to load the whole folder with child waypoints, make sure to click the box at the top of the dialog that offers the option to load a folder instead of one file ("Load a folder of files") 4) Right below that option button is a pathname for the file or folder you are loading. Select the "Open folder" icon on the far right of the box to open the "Open" dialog. Select your file or folders and click "OK" 5) Ensure the "Clear database before loading" checkbox is NOT checked on the left side unless this is what you want to do. All the default options for this dialog should be just fine. 6) Your waypoints will be loaded and you will see a status screen Exporting to Cachemate: 7) IF YOU ARE USING CACHEMATE FOR POCKET PC (which you're not in this case, but just for reference), SKIP THESE STEPS AND EXPORT THE FILES AS A GPX FILE. THE CACHEMATE PDB FILE WILL NOT WORK ON POCKET PC. 8) Select "File > Export > Cachemate PDB File" 9) You can choose whether to include child waypoints in the first set of checkboxes. I recommend excluding them unless you divide them into a seperate category. Cachemate does not support showing child waypoints under the listing for each cache, so it makes them semi-useless. 10) The next dialog allows you to choose the OUTPUT file. Select the "Open" folder icon on the far right of this dialog and CHOOSE A LOCATION FOR YOUR FILE. This must be on your harddrive or other media that is NOT your Palm. Do NOT do anything with the "Most Recently Used File" dialog. < DOUBLE CHECK THIS STEP 11) Select your checkbox options below as to how many logs you want, hint options, container, etc. Also make sure you check the "Install to Palm after conversion" option. Installing into Cachemate: 12) Given you have the Hotsync software for palm running, you can doubleclick this file and choose to put it on your internal memory or SD card if available. Hotsync as normal. 13) Run Cachemate on your Palm and it will detect this file. Choose the category to put the caches into. It will merge load them and give you a status report. DONE! Most likely, your problem lies in either loading the GPX file, or even more likely the location of where you are putting your Cachemate PDB file (perhaps not setting a file location). Let me know if this was useful. As always, feel free to tack on things. If anyone finds this useful but would like screen shots, let me know and I can arrange to post screenshots of all the steps. Good luck! Hybridgeek
  20. Thanks for the help. I'll give the Excel sheet idea a try. I actually don't like nanos myself too much because I have faulty vision and can't find them easily at all, not to mention when you get there it's just a log and nothing else. This is likely going to be the only nano I'm going to place, and I hope to find a place to put it that is more unique and infinitely harder to find than most nanos. Keep an eye on my account for placed caches if you live in the Gaithersburg/Rockville area of Maryland and want to see what I come up with. I probably won't be able to place this for another month or so however. -Hybridgeek
  21. I like the idea. I love multicaches, though my inability to find them might speak otherwise.
  22. Hey folks, I recently bought one of those nano caches from the Great Plains store, but found out they don't include a log or anything with it. While I'm sure I could experiment with a photoshop document and whatnot and eventually get the width right, I was wondering if someone has a document of pre-aligned, pre-made strips I could cut out. Thanks, Hybridgeek
  23. Thanks! Good to know. I hope the map corps doesn't have a problem with me using an Explorist 600. Hybridgeek
  24. There are some contributed by Vinny and Sue up in Frederick, MD named Psycho Urban #x for a reason... I haven't been able to get up there for enough of a day to get any, but many of them, including #7 (GCQHBH), #9 (GCTA5E), and #13 (GCY72P) are all rated 5/5. 7 and 13 are members only. Definitely on my TODO list (actually, all of their Psycho Urban list is, hehe). Happy caching! Hybridgeek
