    Holy Resurrection Batman. Well done.
  2. Occasionally there will be an update to the geocaching.com software. Since the developer of C:GEO refuses to pay for access to the software it takes a day or two for him to update his software. That's my guess. Try checking for an update and if it still doesn't work, just give it a couple of days. Mine is currently working fine on my Galaxy.
  3. And for those who don't speak french.... A Facebook page dedicated to new French speaking geocachers! http://www.facebook....PageFrancophone Do not hesitate to submit your photos, anecdotes, stories, and other exploits ...
  4. I have no doubt about that Bamboozle, but I believe I'm dealing with a local because my caches that have gone missing are all in the same square mile of real estate. Another thread had mentioned setting up a wildlife camera to catch the theif...I may consider it.
  5. I'm having a similar problem. Over the past month several of my very expensive store bought camo caches have gone missing. These are not located in a high muggle area, and the casual observer would not consider a stone at the base of a tree in the woods to be worth stealing. I am confident that I am dealing with what one person here described as a "cache maggot". Someone, who is a geocaching member, is finding my geocaches and replanting them as his own. I feel badly to have to make all of my caches for premium members only, but it'll have to be done. At least the expensive camo caches. The thief doesn't seem too interested in my tupperware containers. If the thefts continue I'll just stop planting caches.

    How large are these events?
  7. Does c:geo use the API yet, or do they still bash the heck out of Groundspeak's servers by web scraping for the "radar" feature? Just curious ... I recall some forum drama over that issue with the original program author throwing his hands up and walking away from the product at one point. I have no idea what that even means. I wasn't aware of any history between C:GEO and geocaching.com. All I know is that it works well, it's full of features, and I liked it well enough to actually donate money to the developer. If you're curious about it I'm sure you can ask the developer. As a side note, I haven't used the radar feature, preferring the compass instead.
  8. I've got C:Geo for my android. It's free and I really can't find anything wrong with it. It links to your Geocahing account, finds nearby caches, has a radar and a compass, mobile logging and many more features. My geocaching partners use the iphone geocaching app and it's very comparable to my free one. With a couple of add ons you can even d/l geocaches to your phone.
  9. Funny, I can't see anywhere in Keystone's post where the Guidelines are mentioned. Is this the section you mean? I don't see anything in there prohibiting the use of a multicache that has an event as the final find. I think what I will do instead then is create an event cache for the BBQ, but also create a multi cache and have a draw prize for anyone who completes the terms of the multicache. That should be within the guidelines and etiquette, yes?
  10. Yeah, I was planning to test it before I set it. That's why I specified watertight, there are several cases specifically designed for scuba that could be used for this purpose and are watertight to 100 feet.
  11. hmmm, food for thought. Thanks for the advice. My thought was that I would create a multi cache that would be available over the next couple of months for Geocachers to locate with the understanding that the completion of the multi would be an invitation to attend the event that I will be hosting in August. I'm a little confused how this could be considered excluding people, anyone who takes the time to complete the multi over the next 2 months is welcome to attend and bring any guests they like. From what I can understand given what you've all stated, it would be a breach of etiquette if I were to create a multicache with an invite to an event as a completion prize. Am I understanding this correctly? I just thought it would be a fun way for geocachers to come to a BBQ and get to know one another in my area.
  12. I need some advice. I've decided that I'm going to throw an Event cache, but I want to make it a challenge by putting together a 5 stage multi cache with the coordinates of the event being at the last stage. When I attempt to create a new cache I can only choose between a multi, or an event. Not both. Any suggestions?
  13. I'm planning to set up a scuba cache next week. This is how I plan to set it. A water tight lock 'n lock will be tied to a brick with a 5 foot string and sunk at the coordinates, since the box will be positively bouyant, it will float 5 feet off the bottom of the lake. Attached to the brick will be a reel of string and an inflatable floatation device. The diver will inflate the device which will float to the surface with the reel string attached. Once at the surface the diver can continue diving for as long as he or she desires. Once the dive is complete and the diver is on the surface and on the boat he can go to the floatation device and pull the geocache. brick and all to the surface. When he signs the log and such he deflates the flotation device, rolls up the reel of string, courteously replaces everything as he found it, then just sets the brick and geocache into the water to sink back to the bottom at the same coordinates. That way he doesn't have to do a second dive to replace the cache.
  14. I agree with the concensus. Part of owning a cache is to review the logs, if you don't want to readthe logs for 50 hides, then don't hide 50 caches. I find some also helpful when the finder indicates that the cache is in good shape, or even takes a picture of the contents for me to look at. One stat I'd like to see tracked along with our finds, hides, challenges completed, and trackables logged is a cumulative total of owned caches found by others.
  15. Yeah, the province of Alberta is more than three times the size of Great Britain. It would be helpful if we knew where you will be visiting and what file format the maps need to be in.

Those same guidelines also require the following: Since ToonAl didn't provide a link to the cache we are not able to verify if that information is on the listing or not.

There is a requirement for the owner of the cache to obtain the permission of the property owner where the cache is placed. How are you to know that this was not done? How do you know that the owner of the property isn't fully aware of what is going on? I think it's a little presumptuous of you to recommend that a cache be archived just because you think it's in an inappropriate place and couldn't be bothered to do a little bit of investigation first.
  18. The policy change at Google would affect third party apps just as it would any web based browser. Google covered all the angles when they set this new fee for use system up, if it was mapping software that previously used the google Maps database, it'll likely have issues now. I know that Blackberry Maps and Google Maps are different software, but I'm not sure if Blackberry Maps relies on Google Map data or not.
  19. ToonAl has likely given a pretty accurate quote of what CN will say to you.
  20. google made a policy change a few months ago that require third party agencies, such as Geocaching to pay a pretty substantial fee for using their maps. Therefore, to save costs, Geocaching removed links to Google maps in the geocaching website. Now, the default is mapquest which doesn't have maps that are as complete. I know on my website I had a search function that would use google maps to conduct a search within a particular radius, and that was gonna cost me $10,000 per year.
  21. Nothing that I've been able to find.
  22. Well, by using the advanced search function on the geocaching.com website you can find out that there are 31,497 caches in Ontario. You'll have to repeat the search for each province and add up the totals for all of Canada.
  23. Thanks GOF, but I didn't actually use *s, Groundspeak automatically placed them. Besides, I don't see a problem with him kissing my donkey...just so long as he doesn't take it any further than that.
  24. Careful everyone, if you don't respond to the OP with a comment like, "Oh, how horribe for you!! I totally agree that everyone should be limited to no more than one hide, that way we all have premium spots to put our caches. Even noobs who haven't been around for 10 years like other dedicated members will be able to have fun that way!!" You'll end up being whipped into shape with Guidelines 2 & 4. I agree completely Mushroom, That's why I get all bent outta shape when some self righteous prig accuses me of being hateful and disrespectful after I posted what I think is a well thought out and informative post. If he's looking for hateful and disrespectful, he's gonna get what he wants and deserves. Aside from that, how are you? How are you enjoying Geocaching? I've found it to be a great passtime. My sons are very excited to be involved and have memberships of their own. I've even managed to get another half dozen people interested since I joined. It's a great hobby, but as with everything great, not everyone involved can have identical views. There's always a grinch somewhere.
