Do You Do It At Night?
Tallahassee Lassie replied to Cracker in the Hat's topic in General geocaching topics
Nope, not me. There is something about being out in the woods alone at night that scares me to death. I won't hunt the night caches around here, or hunt any caches at night. I probably would have a fit if an owl hooted nearby. Can you tell that I'm not a camper either? Not that I think there's anything wrong with caching at night. I applaud all of you who go for it, but as a woman usually caching alone or with children, it ain't gonna happen. -

Help With Explorist 200
Tallahassee Lassie replied to Images4U's topic in GPS technology and devices
Nope, no way to do it. As you get closer to your "target", however, you can zoom in and eventually your POI will be the only one. -

Should Have Went Cachin'
Tallahassee Lassie replied to Dan&Chris's topic in General geocaching topics
First off, the children are " AUTISTIC" not "ARTISTIC". Huge difference, I promise you, since I teach the autistic. And this is also being used for Alzheimer's patients who may wander away. -

3. Consider getting a bluetooth dongle for your computer instead. Many are 1.2 with a range of about 100 feet or so, easier to reach. Are you allowed to say "dongle" on the forums??

How did you know Geocaching?
Tallahassee Lassie replied to garri's topic in General geocaching topics
I read about it eons ago in Parade magazine, and thought, "Hmm, interesting." Then last winter I asked for a GPS for Christmas, but Santa forgot or something, because it didn't show up until the next day in the tree. But Santa got a little treat back on one of our hikes in the woods. So I guess it's lucky for all of us. -

Worst Geocaching Injury
Tallahassee Lassie replied to funinthealps's topic in General geocaching topics
My son and I were out hiking around a lake, and were about 1 mile from the car. It was a lovely lake, with fishermen, people with dogs on leashes, etc. We're headed to the third of 3 caches when I hear him scream (he's behind me). Turns out, a very large dog ON A LEASH bit him on the side. Nick had just gone up and petted him and turned around. It left a very bad taste for that lake, and my poor son had to walk out, since he weighs WAY too much to carry. -
How Many States Have You Cached In
Tallahassee Lassie replied to MikeandRenn's topic in General geocaching topics
5 states for me -- Florida, FL, Fla., FLORIDA, and florida. -
I agree that logging a cache that you haven't found is lame. However, I will log a cache that I cannot physically get to through no fault of my own. In one case, there was a serious ant infestation at the location and I was unable to grab the cache, even though I knew exactly where it was. On another, the cache was so high I wuold have to have had some way to climb a pole to get to it (I'm fairly short). In this instance the cache was only a 1/1, so it was not intended to be such a challenge.

I don't think it would be too hard. In my 3 months of caching, I have had to change UPC codes, DNA codes, Morse code, and apply knowledge of pop culture and other devious info to get cache coordinates. Go for it!! p.s. Of COURSE it makes you a geek! We're in the woods using GPS UNITS!! Using billion dollar satellites to find tupperware in the woods.
