  1. erm .... "but I don't in the long run " should actually read " but I don't think in the long run " I think faster than I type ... sorry about that!
  2. Hi all! The "slip" of the information was made by me. I was not under the impression that this information was "top secret" as most or all of it was available on the Parks Canada web site. I apologize if this has caused concerns, but I don't in the long run that it should/will be an issue. Has this caused any undue issues in any of the groups across the country? I take full responsibility for the leak, however I don't see the harm in this information appearing in this forum. dani_carriere Past President, MBGA Participant in the Parks Canada/Geocaching policy drafting.
  3. I'm going down home at the end of August ... can someone post a link to the page for the 1st cache? I'd like to find it while I'm there! Thanks! dani
  4. I've tried several variations including increasing the number of items on a page, and it's still intermittent. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. I do know that it's getting very frustrating, so that I don't even *want* to go into my bookmarks
  5. I am also having this problem, and have been having it for some time. I thought that it could have been because of my browser (IE 6.0), but this also happens in Firefox. I've tried it on Win2K and XP, same thing. I think the behavior of the nav links at the bottom of the list are really buggy. I would be nice to have a tech person look into this. Please.
  6. On May 5 and 6 of 2006, there were collaborative discussions between Parks Canada, Geocachers and Non-Government Organizations (NGO's) in Gatineau, Quebec. The purpose of the workshop was to jointly create policy recommendations for Parks Canada management at their invitation. It was a positive experience for all participants involved. This was step two of five in the second phase in a process that started May 2005 to develop a geocaching policy. An anticipated implementation date for the policy is Spring 2007. Until a final policy is in place, the interim policy remains in effect. We are optimistic that some form of physical geocaching will exist in Parks Canada in the future. A more in depth summary of details will follow. dani_carriere Workgroup Geocaching Representative from Manitoba
  7. Winnipeg??? I would prefer Ottawa ... never been to the country's capital before ... I was hoping to take a couple of extra days and do some siteseeing/geocaching. May 4/6 is OK with me.
  8. This is a great story! It's almost like finding a time capsule. With that cache being #1 in Alberta, but #2 in Canada ... does anyone know what the #1 Canadian cache is? And for that matter, what is the #1 cache for geocaching.com? GCA6 ... c'mon A6!!! right now we're at GCQxxx. At this rate, we'll be getting into 7 digit Waypoint codes soon. This is SO cool!
  9. Thanks for your advice, guys! I sent an email, and it was approved a few hours later.
  10. I placed a puzzle cache on 08/18/2005 and it's been in approval status since. The cache approver did ask me to provide more information, which I did (via the Reviewer's note on the web page). The last time I updated information on the page was 08/22/2005 (Encrypted Hint). I'm still waiting for approval, yet traditional caches that were place 2 to 3 days ago are already approved. How long should I wait before asking the approver for an ETA? Should I even bother? I don't want to bug him unless I have to.
  11. As you all know, companies do this as a marketing ploy. The solution to problems like this is to not buy any Jeep products, and also let your dealership know why you're not buying their product. Eventually, their marketing department might get the hint that Canadians are potential customers that need to be catered to as much as Americans. I did contact Jeep Canada and they responded that the American company is distinct from the Canadian company and that the contest is purely that of the American Jeep Corporation. Since the Canadian Jeep Corporation has jurisdiction, that's why the American Jeep Corporation cannot offer it to us. This is also an opportunity for any Canadian company who manufactures jeep-like vehicles, or all-terrain vehicles or sporting equipment to jump and fill the void. And make it a Canadians only contest. Thoughts?

  14. Hey PJ, I will be geocaching in your area on the May long weekend. If you can have those new caches in place by then, I can add them to my itinerary ... Also, if you have a FTF cert, maybe I can beat Gumpy and Polarbeardiggers to them
  15. HI Peter! It doesn't work for me ... and I have JAVA fully enabled here at work. Is it javascript or a java applet. I'm getting a message that says cvcs not initiated. Here's the code from my JAVA console: load: class xplug.class not found. java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: xplug.class at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.findClass(AppletClassLoader.java:161) at sun.plugin.security.PluginClassLoader.findClass(PluginClassLoader.java:168) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:299) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadClass(AppletClassLoader.java:122) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:255) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadCode(AppletClassLoader.java:560) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.createApplet(AppletPanel.java:567) at sun.plugin.AppletViewer.createApplet(AppletViewer.java:1786) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.runLoader(AppletPanel.java:496) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(AppletPanel.java:293) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:536) Caused by: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed. at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.getBytes(AppletClassLoader.java:260) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.access$100(AppletClassLoader.java:42) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader$1.run(AppletClassLoader.java:151) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.findClass(AppletClassLoader.java:148) ... 10 more It looks as though you need the xplug.class on your server.
  16. Sorry about the deadline PJ, but a lot of people have already used up their 4 votes. There will be many other opportunities to design graphics for the site, so please keep your ideas in mind. I like the idea about have Bison graphics, etc. We need to pretty up the web site every once in a while and will gratefully accept what people want to offer. At our membership meeting we tried to emphasize that this is OUR web site, and everyone can add pages, and ideas, and graphics. As for the copyright issues, we have been listening to your conversation. There are a few of us who (I guess) are the committee (we'll post the names on the web site this week). We're coming up with a game plan to handle the legal scenarios. Keep an eye on the voting page, we'll post our solution there, once we have one. Thank you for bringing this up. This is a great time for it (Long before we start hearing from the Groundspeak lawyers!).
  17. We have successfully started the MBGA, and are having a vote for our logo right now. You can sign up to be a member of the Manitoba Geocaching Association here.
  18. Hi! Princess Auto is located on Panet Rd, south of Nairn. This is in the east end of the city, just west of Lagimodiere. United Army Surplus is located at Portage at Colony, right downtown. SIR is located just north of Polo Park at Empress and Ellice. Polo Park is on Portage Ave, just past all the signage for the airport. I'm not sure this is a Scottish store, but there is a celtic store at the Forks. You can follow Portage Ave. until you hit Main St. Go south on Main. After the first set of lights, you'd make a left hand turn. Once you go under the train bridge, you'll see the Forks to your right. If this isn't a Scottish store, they may know where to find one in the city.
  19. Hi! For those that were not following the MBGA Event cache, here are the links to the new MBGA web site: http://www.mbgeocaching.ca or http://www.mbgeocaching.com Please feel free to add links to these websites from your own web pages.
  20. LOL! I'm reading this and thinking "I'm Spartacus ... No! I'm Spartacus!!" ...
  21. I can't seem to get it to work! I get this javascript message: I'm using IE 5.5, with Java enabled ... any ideas why my map area is a complete blank? I've sent this message to Google last week, but haven't had a reply (probably getting too much feedback) help! please!
  22. I had a whack of watch notifications from you yesterday. Holy Mackeral! Talk about marathon geocaching! I'm scared ... I'm really scared I think I have a good day if I can get 2 done
  23. I've done a similar cache in Edmonton Rob Lake's Web Cam at the University of Alberta. I was able to be within 15 feet of the cam, but I looked 100 feet away. With the shadows you could barely make me out, let alone the large geocaching poster that I made.

    Edmonton

You could market geocaching as part of eco-tourism and contact some of those groups to see if they can help, or even participate.
  25. N 53 27.46 goes smack thru Edmonton, Alberta ... you may have some luck if you contact someone from there. There aren't that many communities that far north in my province (Manitoba).
