  1. Posting the general area is part of the problem. Over the last 6 months I've been doing a lot of roadtrip planning. The areas I've spent most of my time looking are: Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and have looked at several other states as well, but the list above is where I've spent most of the time. dani
  2. I've been doing a lot of searching of caches in the past few months, and I seem to remember one challenge or puzzle cache where you had to find a cache that was hidden/placed on the day you started geocaching. I forgot to bookmark it, and now I can't find it. If anyone knows which one I'm talking about (or if there are multiple ones), can you place the GC code in this thread? Thanks!
  3. Manitoba is having an event, but we're sharing the Hawaii coin and the Tomar, Portugal coin (since we came into this too late to order our own). Received the coins on Thursday, they're beautiful. Also had a nice treat from Oakcoins in the box too
  4. I just noticed that the cover to my battery compartment on my Garmin GPSMap 60cx is broken. I'm holding it all together with an elastic right now. If anyone has a machine that no longer works, I'd appreciate if I could acquire it's cover for my machine. Anybody know if Garmin sells individual parts for their machines?
  5. This may be a little late, but we (Manitoba Geocaching Association) would like to host a 10-10-10 event in Manitoba. How can we get ahold of some coins? Who is the contact for this? Our regular coin acquirer has moved away, and we're trying to get some for our community. Thanks
  6. I got two emails as well, but from a user called "SuenPete". Since this is a different name from fuzzbucket, I will forward this on to GC.com.
  7. Thanks for looking into this, Mr. Bike. I, too, am having the same issues with setting up a PQ. I'll wait patiently until all is resolved.
  8. Today, when I did the "Search for nearest caches to your home coordinates" (filtering finds), I noticed that the distances listed were not in order. Here is a list of the first few cache distances on my first page: 1.9km, 2.7km, 3.3km, 2.6km, 3.8km, 5.5km, 4km, 4.7km, 5.3km, 4km, 4.7km, 4.5km, 5.3km Any idea why they're not sorted properly? I've tried reloaded the screen, closing my browser, clearing my cache and reloading the screen. Didn't work. I haven't changed my home coordinates in over 7 years. I've always used this page to find out how many caches are within 5km of home (so that I can clear them away). Now it's very misleading. At first glance, it seems that I only have 5 caches in that radius, but in actuality, I have 10. Help?
  9. I would, but all my geocaching items are in my Outlook account. I've tried to set up my secondary account in Outlook, but it's not working. I'd like to keep all my Geocaching items in outlook, but am will to have my PQ's sent elsewhere since I don't keep them around for more than a week. Honestly, I'd like it all to go to my one main account, but what's a girl to do?
  10. I have been unable to receive my "My Finds" Pocket Query for a few months. The query runs, but I never receive an email. I have had the problem on occasion with my regular PQ's, and have diverted them to an alternate email where they always arrive. I wish I could do the same for my "My Finds" PQ, otherwise, I may never have the ability to get them again. (pretty please with brown sugar on top).
  11. I'm having a problem with my "My Finds" pocket query. I submitted it last night, and it said it generated right away. However it's now 8+ hours later and it hasn't arrived. I do receive all my other gc.com emails, just not the occasional PQ. For my other PQ's I've started to redirect them to my yahoo.ca email if it doesn't work to my main email addy. However, we don't have that option on the "My Finds" query. (btw, that would be nice to have). Any idea if there's a current problem, or is it just me? email: dcarrier at autobahn.mb.ca isp: www.autobahn.mb.ca
  12. I know people are already looking into the recent PQ issues, but I thought I'd add my issue to the list. I have created 31 PQ's in preparation for GeoWoodstock. I successfully ran each of them about a month ago. On Sunday, I started to flag them to be re-run ... 5 PQ's a day. The first 15 have run, however none of the emails have arrived. I use my primary email address for these PQ's. Should I re-run these, or patiently wait to see if they show up. Could they be stuck in a queue somewhere? I still have 16 PQ's ready to run, the next 5 will be run in 2 hours. So ... do I sit back and be patient, or start re-running my PQ's?
  13. Where can I submit suggestions for images for the rotating image banner on the GC.Com web page. Someone in our association took an amazing photo of training GPSs and it would be nice to see it added to the rotation? http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/displa...745c68699ce.jpg
  14. I finally had a chance to do more testing today. A friend had lent me her GPS 60csx, and another friend lent me his USB to Serial cable and a Geko to test everything. Well, the USB to Serial cable did the trick. Once I connected it to my cable and a USB port, a COM4 port magically appeared on my GSAK settings. I selected it and was able to upload. *phew* .. So I think my problem is less solved than bypassed. But at least I can continue to use GSAK. I think my COM1 port is pooched. If I get the cable, I probably won't have to worry about it. Nothing else I have uses COM1. Thank you to all who gave me great suggestions! I learned a great many things. You guys most definitely ROCK!
  15. I did try everything that sniperchicken listed in the quoted portion. I can try installing GPSBabel and EasyGPS to see if the problem happens with them. Also a friend is lending me their USB to Serial cable tonight so I should be able to test that as well.

  17. I also went to the Garmin website and got instructions on upload a new driver to my Garmin, but after downloading the fix to my computer, it wouldn't upload the fix because... <drum roll please> it didn't recognize my GPS unit. Gave me the same error as mapsource.
  18. What I've tried today: * used msconfig to stop and start various services. None of them allowed GSAK to work. * set COM1 settings to default. * reset the GPS unit to factory defaults. Manually reset the unit. * Borrowed a friends GPS60CSX and tried connecting with a USB cable. Missing a driver on my side. What I'm planning for tomorrow, so far: * Borrowing a friend's Geko that uses the same cable to see if it connects. * borrowing a friend's USB to Serial cable to see if that works. I'm still convinced that it's more on my computer than on the GPS, Cable or in the applications. Stoopid streets and trips!!
  19. Checked it out. That was the first thing I had tried. I've regularly switching between GARMIN and NMEA in\NMEA out on my GPS and trying with all my different software.
  20. no, I don't have a PDA, I'm still doing paper caching (mea culpa). I was looking for some hotsync processes in my task manager, but couldn't identify anything.
  21. I haven't tried that yet. I'll do that tonight when I get home! Thanks.
  22. I have, they've said that since my GPS doesn't work with mapsource either, than it's not a GSAK issue. Clyde was going to remove my thread, but decided to leave it on in case someone had some advice for me.
  23. Yup ... COM1 is there .. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it several times. Even Garmin support hasn't been able to help me with this. I found what seemed like a possible solution in their support pages, even giving a download for updating my GPS, but it needs to recognize my GPS and I'm getting the same error in that app as I do for mapsource. Very frustrating! I think it may be related to a process running on my machine in the background, but I can't identify it.
  24. Hi! I've never had any problems with GSAK until now. Before posting here, I did do some searching to see if anyone else has had this problem. I've also posted the identical information on the GSAK forum, but the recommend I contact Garmin. I just don't want to have to shell out significant $$ to fix this. GSAK has always worked well for me and my Garmin eTrex Vista. I recently added MS Streets and Trips to my computer so that I can create routes. Ever since, I haven't been able to upload waypoints using GSAK or Mapsource. However, I can communicate with the GPS, if it's set to NMEA in, NMEA out. I can't get any communication if it's set to GARMIN. Here's some background info on my set up: * I am running Windows XP and GSAK 6.6.5. * I have an eTrex Vista that I connect to my computer with a serial cable (not USB). The error message I receive is: Here is a pic of my "GPS Setup" and "Send to GPS" screens: Here are some other things I've tried: * I've uninstalled MS Streets and Trips. Didn't work. * I've uninstalled and reinstalled GSAK. Didn't work. * I've run regclean, uninstalled GSAK, run regclean, reinstalled GSAK. Didn't work. * I've uninstalled GSAK, removed the leftover files, reinstalled GSAK, and reinitialized my GPS settings. Didn't work. * I've tried uploading using the NMEA setting. Didn't work. * I've uninstalled and reinstalled my COM1 driver. Didn't work. * I've uninstalled and reinstalled my COM1 driver in safe mode. Didn't work. * I've tried telnetting into my GPS using hyperterminal. Works in NMEA, but not in GARMIN mode. * I've successfully uploaded waypoints using my GPS at my work computer. * I've used different gpx files to see if it was data related. Didn't work. * I've examined all the processes running on my computer, all the ones that I can see in my Task Manager are identifiable, and don't use the COM1 port. * I've even read a thread in the Groundspeak forum that suggested rubbing the copper contact points on my GPS and cable to clear off any gunk. Didn't work. So far, I've eliminated my GPS and serial cable as possible break points. I've somewhat eliminated GSAK, but it could be a setting that I can't find that will fix it. I'm thinking that Streets and Trips pooched a setting for my COM1 port, or is still locking it somehow, but I can't identify what or how it's locked. I agree that it isn't a GSAK issue, but I'm not convinced it's a Garmin issue either. After all, I can communicate to my GPS in NMEA mode, and I'm able to upload to the same GPS at the office. I think it's my COM1 port combined with the GARMIN mode that the problem lies with, and I'm not technical enough to figure that out. I'm getting kind of desperate here. Any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!
