  1. Try Walmart online. About six months ago they were within $10 of the lowest price for a Garmin 76CSx and if I had lived in an area where I could have had it shipped to a store and picked it up there, I could have made that up on shipping.
  2. I have a new (garmin replaced my original) 76CSx and the compass page went completely blank while I was using it. The pointer was gone and the writing and calibration marks were also gone. Nothing displayed except a blank circle. I think I remember a post on this forum where someone said to turn the GPS off and then back on and it would come back. I tried that and it did reappear on the second try. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this and what I can do to eliminate the problem?
  3. My cachemobile is a BMW Z4. It limits my off road/backwoods caching but its also a whole lot of fun getting there.
  4. Found one last week that has been in the wild since July, 04. Log was perfectly dry so I'm planning to use a few myself.
  5. Have you downloaded the software from the Garmin website? I have a GPSMAP 76CSx and today I noticed the new option to download directly to a GPS on the individual cache pages. There is a link to the Garmin website for the software to accomplich the downloads when you get to the 'we only support Garmin" notice. I downloaded the update and all works fine.
  6. When sending a message to a user via geocaching.com, is there a way to attach a photo to the message? I Logged a virtual cache where the owner wanted a picture of me at the cache as evidence of the find. The owner did not list his email address in his profile so I emailed by "sending a message" through geocaching.com but could not find a method to attach the photo.
  7. Someone should rewrite the manual and I hope that Garmin listens. I had almost 300 finds with my Magellan Explorist when I purchased a 76CSx. The manual is next to useless and unfortunately the support at Garmin is almost as good. I was told in no uncertain terms by Garmin tech support that the only way to enter waypoints for geocaches was by hand and one at a time! The manual tells you to go to the Garmin website for more information - to bad nothing is there. If it weren't for this forum, I would have returned the unit immediately.
  8. Currently own: Magellan Explorist 200 Garmin GPSMAP76CSx The Garmin is new and I don't totally trust it yet so I bring along the Explorist for peace of mind.
  9. fyi - I bought a 76CSx from Walmart online just a couple weeks ago for $342. They are a good vendor and have a very liberal return policy. You might check them out before you place an order.
  10. Twice this summer I have located caches that were guarded by rattlesnakes (didn't know we had so many vipers interested in geocaching!) There was no doubt that the containers I found were the caches that I was searching for. Unfortunately the snakes asserted their FTF positions and did not want to yield. I did not log a find nor a DNF but posted a note and will return when I have the nerve and sign the log. I will log a find when the log is signed. I would like to hear the opinions of some of the previous responders as to whether or not they consider these finds.
  11. And I haven't found a grandfathered one yet that still works - or worked when I was in front of it Try GC2663 if you are ever in New Orleans. Works great!
  12. You are describing exactly what makes geocaching interesting! Go for it and good luck.
  13. Tell everyone you can about geocaching - just be careful who you show "Gator" garb to!
  14. Now I know that on a scale of 1 to 10 where ten is the most severe of problems, this is about a 1.5, but I though that someone would want to know. 1.5 ?
  15. The new maps and other improvements are the best thing since sliced bread!!! Great job
  16. Mine is a description of the car I drive - my second convertible. Some people think that its a description of what's on my head but that's an unintended bit of confusion!
