  1. I tried to organize a Northern New York Geocaching Organization quite a few years back. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...56-6b31f1ad313c It's more accurate to say that I hosted an event, got a great turnout, got scared of the commitment, and never followed through with future endeavors. There are still many interested but the only local group I can recall right now is the MAGC Fort Drum chapter run by LoneSapper. Lear & Jana might as well call themselves the NNYGO since they assist or host many of the events.
  2. Hopefully we'll be able to lure come of our Ottowa friends down for some geocaching.
  3. We finally found the aforementioned devil cache, Thats One Tall Wall!! We're over 500.
  4. I've gotten additional hints from locals, I'm going back to find the sonofa gun right now. If not, I'll move on to the next cache which will be #500 for Team Kuebbing!!!!!
  5. Well, while I'm at it I may as well ask if anyone knows anything about Thats One Tall Wall geocache in Watertown NY? I look and I lookbut no findie.
  6. We've made a few geocaching trips to Syracuse and you are wise to look for help before you go. I suggest you simply check the caches that have been found a few days prior to your trip assuming there has been no snow since. We would advise against trying to find anything very difficult or anything that has been untouched since November. I have to agree with those who suggest Auburn, it's cache saturated and fairly scenic. Happy Hunting.
  7. I've been off the trail for a while but I'm trying to find my way back and I'm looking for my fellow North Country NY geocachers to shoot the breeze with. I'm also thinking about holding another North Country Gathering since its been over 2 years. Let me know if you are out there.
  8. So I went to a cache and couldn't find it. This one: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...19-9538500d318a It's a micro. It's in a Gilson container. What in the heck is a Gilson Container? And how do I link to a cache page the easy way? Thanks Kirk kkibby43@yahoo.com
  9. Kirk of Team Kuebbing here. I'm heading to Iraq shortly and will be gone for a year or more. Being a responsible parent I'm looking for someone to watch my caches while I'm away. Brandy is going to be overwhelmed with the responsibilities of single parenthood with regards to our flesh and blood children so she will be unable to check the caches periodicaly. This is why I ask you, my fellow geocacher for your help. All of my caches are in the Ft. Drum area. Thanks
  10. Hi, Kirk of Team Kuebbing here. I'm leaving Ft. Drum for a year and need someone to babysit my caches. Any NNY members in my area?
  11. Please e-mail my newest addition to the geocaching family if you have a GPSr to sell. He is Josh Hollers and can be e-mailed at: hollers2@hotmail.com
  12. Dustoff 21 and Dustoff 8 are in Egypt for a year but I'd expect to see just as much treachery as last year. I can't wait. Please hold the release gathering in Syracuse.
  13. I relogged this cache yesterday with a simple "Found cache and left rain check for minigolf prior to cache being archived." Today I got an e-mail from the owner saying that the deletion was an accident when he was archiving the cache. After reading everyone's response here I think I'll just leave my new log. I've never encountered a shy geocacher who would get spooked by criticism of any kind. Usually my fellow geocacher is loud and proud but just in case, I'll take the free advice and try to word my experience on the hunt in a less offensive way. Thanks for all of your responses.
  14. Wow, there's some dedicated NE geocachers out here. I've only hit NY and PA up this way. Hope to visit family in DC this summer and hit VA and MD caches.
  15. On New Years Day I found a cache and logged it. I said I thought the cache was terrible. It was an empty 35mm film cannister directly off an ugly 4 wheeler trail and I said as much. I described the container and location and noted that I placed a rain check for putt putt golf inside but said I don't recommend anyone look for it. I closed by saying "Despite my feelings about this cache it's good to get out of the house, thanks for the hunt." The cache's owner e-mailed me a note saying "What a nice way to let me know my cache is trashed," the next day. Today I get home from work to find he has deleted my log and archived the cache. I was ticked off after driving an hour to get to an ugly cache in an ugly area but after all of this I think it's just bad form to delete a log that was an honest assessment of the cache. Isn't the reason for logging the cache to let the hunter tell about our experience? As long as the hunter actually found the cache and didn't give spoilers or break any rules put out by the hider, shouldn't the hider let the log stand? What do you think? I still have nothing against this guy personally, I just want my log back. I already e-mailed him asking him why.
  16. QM, I have nothing of interest to say concerning the original topic but it's now 1:30 in the morning and I've rather enjoyed reading this thread. Could you have possibly anticipated this kind of response to you original amusing little post?
  17. I was just sitting here thinking about the table covered with Travel Bugs at the gathering in Varysburg before the great release. You know what guys, you're going to need a couple more tables for the next run judging by the size of this thread. Any ideas yet for when and where the release will be and will it be accompanied by a gathering again? I think the Dustoff crew is dormant for awhile, if the race started soon they might not be able to spice it up this time round. Clearly a great shame.
  18. Just a friendly offer to give any Travel Bugs close to me here in North Country NY a ride to Ft. Bliss TX in El Paso this Feb.
  19. The Groundspeak Cache Maps are an awesome tool I use to scout out caches along my route before I travel. I used it to hit a couple of roadside caches on my return from Ft. Leonard Wood MO to Ft. Drum NY in late November. The only problem I had was that when my route cut through Ontario Canada from Sarnia to Thousand Islands, the cache maps don't exist. Can they be added? Kirk
  20. I'm coming for you guys. I leave Monday. Now where to look?
  21. I'm roadtripping with 3 year old daughter and would like to break up the drive with stops for caches along the way. We leave on the 18th of Aug and will travel all the way to Pittsburgh via Altoona. Mapquest has me going south halfway into PA on 81 until I cut west. Any recommendations? We're also looking for roadside caches between Pittsburgh and Cincinatti along the interstate.

  23. On Saturday, May 10, 2003 someone calling themself Lemiwinks retrieved my travel bug "Burt & Dom" from Ye Olde Watering Hole by The CarmelCachers in Indiana and made the following log entry: Found this today, we should be bringing it to Illinois sometime next week. At first I was delighted that my guys got picked up but now I realize it was all a ruse. Burt & Dom were competitors in the Cannonball Run and now are only names on a long list of missing travel bugs. Please help me find Lemiwinks and ultimately the final resting place of Bert & Dom. They say that most missing persons who've been gone this long never turn up but I've got faith. I don't want closure, I want my bug back.
