  1. well, like your post was zero characters. 😁
  2. what is the link to this one? I grew up in Maine- . I promise I won't post A log!! I just want to see if I know the location. (seriously , I won't post anything.
  3. One of the greatest posts ive ever seen on here. oh come on. don't you just think Jar Jar Binks is awesome?? 😂💩
  4. I use the Satellite maps, in combination wih the D/T , and the general location of the cache ( is it in a park or a cemetery?) to figure out how family friendly they are. my kids are 4 y and 7 m old , a lot that don't have stroller specific attributes are usually fine for a stroller anyways. if the cache is 20 ft or so off the path I just park the stroller, put on my backpack ( it's not a kid carrier pack) and just pick up my son and we walk over to make the find. I have a small blanket in my pack that I spread out for him to sit on while my daughter and I trade , sign the logbook, etc.
  5. 1- yes ( but selecting "log visit" just takes me to the cache's geo website page) 2- no ( a reason I might get it) 3. yes
  6. it works fine for basic geocaching with my two kids ( 4 y & 7mo ) ....... of course i don't know what bells and whistles the GC app has so I cant compare the two . as far as the GC free app goes, it's like comparing a Vienna sausage to a filet mignon. I hated that free app.
  7. totally. I'm 37 and I can't even figure out those darn new-fangled cd players. it took me an hour to figure out how to find these forums, and another hour and a half to just type this paragraph. someone told me that i can actually use my iphone as an alarm clock too? I just feel wicked dumb. 👎
  8. I think the idea of geocaching is great, but it just doesn't work in practice. The gps is only good for what, a 30 meter radius? That means you are tramping around in tall bushes looking for something that is probably under the grass. Even if your gps is accurate to 3 feet you still won't find it because the previous person replaced it in the wrong location. Even if you find the right location it isn't there because the person who hid it is unwilling to maintain it. Even if the person is willing to maintain it, you can't find it because it has been stolen recently. Add to that the fun of picking up Lyme disease from ticks in the grass and picking up random pieces of garbage with your bare hands in hopes of finding something, and you have an activity that is frustrating, unhealthy and disgusting. What a way to spend your time - yuk. Yep. You're right: The thousands of geocachers who are enjoying the game worldwide are just deluded. Poor things. They should all take up yogurt weaving or something productive and useful. MrsB yogurt weaving? sounds tricky. 😉
  9. no problem- thanks! at least there's something I know about on here- even if it's not about geocaching!- 💡👍
  10. ok, close but not quite.... here you go. http://www.fs.fed.us/wildflowers/interesting/mycotrophic/allotropa_virgata.shtml
  11. squaw root? also called conopholis americana, & American cancer-root . ive seen it out here in the Ohio woods- but apparently they grow everywhere east of the Mississippi . if that's not exactly what you think it is, check out his site ... http://www.fs.fed.us/wildflowers/interesting/mycotrophic/whatarethey.shtml I'd bet it's one of those ( mycotrophic, I mean. ) kind of cool....
  12. she should have her own. or you could always log it online " found with xxxxx" . anyways - sounds a little like she's overreacting.
  13. thanks everyone, for the replies so far. @ NH#2 : that's pretty funny - your family name pretty much sums up us too- good one!
  14. true, true. however we don't have a home phone, and we are on a family plan. personally,I'd rather live in a cabin in the woods with NO amenities, , but that wouldn't fly with the hubby, lol.
  15. Well I guess with a smartphone a cache owner atleast gets: "TFTC This cache was logged from cacher's smart phone on **/**/**** using the caching app" geez. I'll try to not take a personal offense to all this smartphone bashing, but ...MAN. you guys are rough! I have a smartphone, and I always write something. i plan on using a smartphone for a while, unless someone wants to shell out the $$ for a GPSr for me. our family of 4 lives on a tight budget. I have only found 127 " with my smartphone" so far, I know... not 200, not 1000.... but I have ALWAYS traded up. ( yes, up.) I continue to make personal swag as well as assemble "geo emergency kits " and purchase other new things to leave. plus I leave them all in little ziplocs so they won't get dirty . I realize most of the swag I've seen so far is what w most would consider to be junk- but I will still leave behind good stuff. and usually at least 1 more than i take. AND write a decent Found log. some are rather wordy. we're not all bad. at least I'm not. ;-)
  16. just had to get permission for my 2nd cache.... went online to the county's tax assessment site search- it was something like that- found name of property owner... couldn't find contact info aside from showing up at his house... went to ( of course) Facebook, didn't find him, but sent messages to his wife and son, and got the ok. phew.
  17. I use Geobucket, I am also a premium member- so I can download the full descriptions , I think you can only do 3/day without the membership. you can also use filters to show only the cache types/ratings/size etc that you want to show on the satellite image. anyways - 95% of the time the app gets me really close to GZ- the only time I have a problem is when the weather is cloudy , etc. but with a baby and a 4 year old we have to stick to the fairly easy caches anyways.
  18. I use an iPhone- I have a car charger for it too. with the amount of time I am able to spend caching in one stretch it works just fine.
  19. ah, totally would. to be debt free .... no college loan debt, no mortgage, no living paycheck to paycheck .?! Absolutely . I'd do it for my 4 y/o daughter and 6 m/o son. then I'd wait a few months until the dust had settled, make a new geo-name, and get my ace back out there. lolol
  20. i have done all of my caching by myself, or with my kids so far. I haven't attended any events or get togethers yet , and have yet to meet any fellow cachers when I'm out . when you guys are at events or just caching and you happen to bump into another cacher do you go by your caching name, or your "real" name? just curious.
  21. I put all my swag in little baggies - to better protect them when the cache I find is like <<that>> inside. ( well, I do it anyways for all of it)
