  1. my daughter ( almost 5 y/o ) actually loves the golf balls. my husband is the co owner of a new/used sporting goods store and they give .10 apiece for used golf balls. she gets SO excited that she gets to "sell" them to him.
  2. It seems that many COs cannot tell the difference between a cedar, spruce, yew or pine. Many thing that all evergreens are pines. "Pining for a cache". Nope that's a hemlock. "In the pine tree". Nope that one's a cedar. "Fir-y Friend"? Nope it's yew. I prefer Pining for the Fjords.
  3. I have three six would be nice I have a couple more for you- that would put it up to 5.......
  4. you didn't find the cache. it seems like it went missing pretty fast . but no, I wouldn't log it, as you didn't even find an empty container, missing half of container, etc etc. you can't log a find bc there was nothing to find. kinda sucks, but that's how it goes
  5. geobucket generally shows archived caches - the symbol on the map has a big red X through it. although lately it shows a lot of archived caches as still active . in any case, you should be able to find it that way. I finally bought the official app.
  6. well then, I'm the exception to the rule. I cache with an iPhone , but I also carry extra swag and add one or two more things if the cache is lacking ( and dry inside, lol) I replace baggies, wipe out the insides if damp, and ALL of my swag is inside individual tiny ( or not so tiny) plastic baggies. plus I have a lot of different handmade things to leave .

  9. thanks, that sounds awesome.
  10. I have many Maine Geocoins I lived in Maine for 46 years what part? I grew up in Kennebunk, also lived in Ogunquit and Wells. ( went to Wells HS my senior year)
  11. if I were to take a day off from work to do some caching in a general area ( on foot ) , where would you recommend? I am in Akron and I have a car. I would want to drive to some magical location where I could park, get out of my car, and hike to a handful of caches that wouldn't be stroller and 4 y/o friendly . ( I have two little kidlets ) I am aware I could just go driving around northeast ohio on a cache run, but I'd rather make it a good crunchy nature-loving trip.
  12. I have never bought a coin, but would consider it if it was a Maine coin. I grew up in maine..... absolutely love the state- and miss it terribly. every day.
  13. well, maybe the food goes along with the unwrapped dental floss I found in a cache recently.
  14. GC3D31Z http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=f5c30a6c-ce80-47b8-816a-78b924b6389f# this one made me wonder what the swag-leaver was thinking. kind of made me grin though...
  15. FIXED IT FOR YOU. NEEDED A COMMA PAul (but not an Oxford comma...)
  16. I drove to a hide at night , last year, and realized it was in the parking lot of our local post office . I just turned around and left. these days I wouldn't have even looked for it in the daylight. GC1ZHMK has since been archived , but not for location reasons. it was on the P.O side of the area. the attributes were what got me. creeping around the post office at night? not the best idea IMHO. I was surprised no other loggers seemed to mind.
  17. "If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes." This entire thread is highly entertaining! It's also highly amusing how many people complain they are staring down some hairy dogs butt but are too lazy to do anything about it. There is some petty whining about a lot of issues but this is one that the whiner can do something about......if you want FTFs then play the game in a way to get them. This solves the problem entirely and completely. I agree. if I decide to try for a FTF , I want to earn it fair and square.... I don't want a "sympathy" FTF
  18. I do a lot of geocaching alone - I'm a loner by design, so it's all good . sometimes the kids come with me ( 4 & 1) ... but my his band is definitely out! haha. he will grudgingly stop te cat near GZ if I ask him to, but that's the extent of his ( lack of) interest .
  19. I've had quite a few FTFs - fifth to find.... fourth..... fiftieth.... you get the idea. my daughter likes the swag. we try for new(er) caches in hopes that she will find something cool.
  20. I would only consider trying for a FTF if I was donating blood while helping an old lady cross the street during a canned food drive . but only during the summertime. I know I have at least one FTF, maybe two. could be three. I don't remember. my 4 year old gets really excited. she'll ask me " ARE WE THE FIRST ones to find this?" and I'll say no, But we ARE the first to find it this month!"
  21. mine's Oxford Comma because i read a whole debate about how some think it's unnecessary, and I was nerdily into reading the Whole thing. plus, I am an apostrophe nazi. this wasn't the post but it's still funny. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/jacketcopy/2011/06/goodbye-oxford-comma-hello-shatner-comma.html although, I am Apparently not into proper capitalization. J.P. Donleavy? hello!!
  22. in a parallel universe the cache is there and ready for you to find.
