  1. July 2nd will be 16 years since I placed Tarryall (GC18) for Colorado's first Geocache (actually it was originally known as a "GPS Stash" back then, but that name wasn't felt to be something that would grow the sport / game in good direction... lol). Anyway, for the last few years, I've been meaning to have a "party" of sorts for Tarryall, and I figured a "Sweet 16" for this year could be fun reason, plus Tarryall's birthday is on a Saturday too and basically part of the holiday weekend.

My plan (which could change, but I'm going to try to hold to this) is to get up to Tarryall by 10am, and just hang out for a chunk of the day. I'll bring a cake (or cupcakes, not sure yet, but what's a birthday party without some sort of cake) for anyone that happens to show up that day (whether they know about this or not).

NOTE: there is road construction on Park 77 with long delays from recent logs, (not sure if they are doing that on the weekends though) so plan accordingly. May be better to use Park 31 (dirt / washboard) which comes around to Park 77 to the north of Tarryall, and then come back south to it (but then I'm not even sure where the construction is at right now so that may not be a good option either. If anyone knows for sure, let me know).

We are planning to visit Tarryall on July 1st, on our way from San Diego via Durango. Looks like we may be too early for the festivities, but I'd be really grateful for an update on the construction. I'm not sure our vehicle will be able to handle the washboard road!

  2. At 1332 PDT I am getting no response from Geocaching.com. Is anyone else having a problem?

I am seeing the same too. At first I was being redirected to status.geocaching.com which indicated it was down, and now I am not even getting redirected.

Same here. Just as I was about to log some caches! No indication it was planned.

Yes, it's Brig o' Doon but taken from the east side after

stepping through the private gate you see for the two shots

that make up this two-frame panorama. Nice, eh?

Also have shots of the west side that were more challenging

to shoot. Had to crash a very large wedding reception to gain

access to fenced property of a pub. Men of the wedding party

wore formal kilt-kit and the women wore stunning dresses and

very fashionable hats. The bride was beyond beautiful and

    the groom ever-so dashing.

For my part I was attired in my CSRP hiking garb with my

faithful old Tilley hiking hat. I sensed that my outfit made

a good impression because the wedding party couldn't keep

their eyes off of me as I passed through them coming and

going for my shots of Brig o' Doon.

I noted an odd tendency of the men of the wedding party to

lace their fingers and crack their knuckles as I passed by.

Must be some sort of Scottish custom. I'll have to ask James

    about that.

Note to Self: Going to really tick me off if The Lost Clan ignores this post.

Note Two Self: Imagine! ... no Geocache at this famous brig o'er river Doon.

Hey, Harmon, that's my neighborhood! Great pictures of the Brig!

Did you go to Ayr to see the view you put on my Yrium card?

Yes indeed, we had a very good time looking Ayrshire over.

I asked around to find out which pub you might be found in.

Everybody answered the same way, "Ahney wahn ahf 'um," or

    something like that.

Tried for a couple of hides, one near the Robert Burns Museum

and one at his cottage. Struck out both time due to limited

time because I was so anxious to get photos at Brig' o' Doon.

Having Scottish blood in my veins, so I've been told, made for

    an especially rewarding experience.

I'm left with a mystery about Brig o' Doon, how th' heck could

shoed horses make it up and over that brig with those huge,

    rounded, slippery cobble-stones?

I found the one at the cottage a year ago. You should have called me for a lifeline! :D

As for the pubs, back in my youth they were a bit rough (even the lounge bars which allowed ladies), so I did some of my drinking at The Burns Monument Hotel, which wasn't nearly as ritzy in those days. (Don't ask what age I was!)

As for the poem, that conjures up quite a picture, doesn't it? But I guess there was a supernatural aspect to it all, so that might explain it. My favorite part of the poem is (of course!) "Auld Ayr, wham ne'er a town surpasses, For honest men and bonnie lasses".

Maybe we should have been The Thirsty Lasses!

I realized too late that there was a hide at the cottage

and so was under pressure to head for the museum. Same

thing happened at the mouse statue, I looked as long as

I dared without causing me to miss out on shots of Brig

o' Doon that I was quite determined to have.

It surely surprised me to find that photographing Brig

o' Doon was so challenging. Private property and a huge

wedding reception stood in my way but so did Cuyamaca

Challenge. It seems that 2012 is going to be a banner

    year for me.

Seemed unusual to visit Ayr after doing your Yrium Card.

Felt like I had been there before. I suppose that you

    have this book.

    0cf9848d-b489-4d16-9c0a-9cbf4a7d6054.jpg?rnd=0.4577687

Not sure about The Thirsty Lasses ... that's got

a pitfall or two with regard to rhyming.

I don't have that book, but I do have a couple of others, as well as one my history teacher wrote about my old school, Ayr Academy, on its 750th anniversary back in 1983!

Not sure I can find much that rhymes with Ladies.....which may be a good thing!

  6. Thought I'd better post here in addition to FB since none of three 'honorees' is on FB...

A big CONGRATS to dillweed, fisnjack, and Ragfoot for not only completing the Original Fizzy, but for making the long road trip to sign the log and claim their well-deserved smileys! Way to go!!!

While checking the Adobe Facebook page for Photoshop and or Lightroom

news what do I see but an entry from Trixie Land. Imagine my surprise

to discover that one of the charming Thirsty Ladies of Geocaching fame

shares another interest with a nobody like me.

Kind of hurts a little because The Thirsty Ladies don't seem to like my

    Geocache hides. That's o.k. Ladies, don't worry about it ... I'll just have t'

    get over it.

Several of The Thirsty Ladies are keen photographers (among other things!) And we do hope to get out to some of your new hides soon, once a couple of the Ladies have recovered from various injuries, and once I've figured out how to chop those caches into 5 mile loops!

  8. FYI HARMON

LOST CLAN HIT 10,000 TODAY SO CONGRATS LINDA.

    Thanks pal,

How coincidental ... I was rooting around through my photo

galleries today and came across some shots I took of Linda

and a small herd of The Thirsty Ladies that I encountered

one day while up on Woodbridge Road.

There's a couple of shots in that set that really make me

smile. So I get to smile two of my favorite smiles for Linda

    today.

Congratulations Linda, well done and thanks for the smiles.

    I love you too-oo,

    Sweet ol' Harmon

We are sooo excited for you Linda! Congrats and welcome to the 10,000 Club!

Thank you all for the wonderful messages and comments, here and on FB (sorry, Harmon!) The last 6 years have been quite a trip, and I have definitely found my bliss (as Oprah would say) in geocaching. Unfortunately it doesn't pay anything, but then it doesn't cost much either!

Here's hoping I get to the next milestone of 20,000! A big congrats to Duncan! who just did that! I want to be like him when I grow up! :D :D :D

  9. Happy Birthday, Harmon!

Just remember that, in spite of all the abuse you take from all those folks who misunderstand you, another year above ground still beats a year below ground.

Happy! Happy! ... another year above ground indeed.

   Happy Birthday, Harmon! And many, many, many happy returns!

Card designed by Harmon of SD Rowdies

A supply of these cards has been dropped in Max's Favorite Park.

    Sue,

I'm so very happy for you ... on Thanksgiving Day no less,

aren't you clever! (I caught a rash just waiting on this.)

Working with you on Yrium cards has been a delight just as

it was with FlagMan only you are better looking than he is.

FisnJack well deserves this honor ... but just wait until

his pals see the related misprint card. Ha-ha-ha-ha! Snark!

Notice that Teddie upstaged him in the layout ... of course,

Teddie is better looking than he is. Ha-ha-ha-ha! Snark!

    Harmon

    SD Rowdies

    Anybody wanna see my rash?

AWESOME!!!!! LOVE it!!!! Noticed the nuances right away. Great job all the way around!!! Picked up one for me and one for lulu at Max's...

Great job with the card, Sue! And a very deserving recipient! :D :D :D

I made a quick run to Max's this morning and grabbed one for myself, one for Silver Horde and one for zeber. Now back to the kitchen!

  11. Congrats to waterlassie for 2500 finds and for entry into the Calavera Hall of Fame!!!

    Here's her log...

    :grin:Way to go, waterlassie!!!

Not only did waterlassie finish the Hall of Fame, but she visited most of the caches twice (sometimes three times!) What a good friend she is! I'm glad I was with you for many of them, Laurie! Congratulations!

Here's a picture of the group that did a tour of the Sandy Creek Cowboy caches last Sunday. What a wonderful time we had - lots of laughs and giggles! I think the three new cachers that joined us were very impressed. Of course, we had to explain to them that not all caches are as exciting and well thought-out as the ones in this series!

  13. I'm sure the Sandy Creek Cowboys would love to have a few city slickers frequent their caches! We'll be heading out on Sunday the 13th. We'll probably meet at the Buckman Springs offramp around 9ish. I'll see if I can locate a ladder. Looks like we'll have a group of at least 5 vehicles. 4WD is not necessary, but we will be on a dirt road. They are incredibly fun caches with smiles and laughter at each one. Hope you all can join us!

    Robyn of Team Reid :D

If anyone is planning to look for these caches tomorrow, please note that Team Reid and Team Fatman will not be coming. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif However Robyn of Team Reid kindly made a plan for the rest of us, so we are going ahead with the trip. We'll meet at GCJNEJ (Sandy Creek Cowboys #3) at 9am. This should be fun!http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

    Robyn,

You have been such a faithful follower of the

Sandy Creek Cowboy caches. Through you so many

others have had the fun and pleasure of those

    crazy hides.

Good to mention that the dirt roads are suitable

for a Buick Roadmaster ... planed and sanded dirt

in good condition. Of course this torrential rain

we've been having might well rut the roads a bit

but what else might one expect of cowboy country?

Keep in mind ... no hints from previous finders

are allowed. Watching a new crop of finders make

the needed discoveries is icing on th' cowboy cake.

Might need a few replacement logsheets due to the

recent heavy rain, or at least a battery-operated

blow dryer. One thang f'r shore ... when wind,

rain, and snow come to Sandy Creek Ranch they do

    come in good measure.

    Y'all have fun y' hear,

Hey, Harmon, a few of The Thirsty Ladies are going too! After meeting up with you on the trail and chatting about the series, we just had to get Robyn to organize this! Maybe that will persuade you to come along?

  15. After all the dust clears on the weekend, and logs are all posted, quite a few milestones will have been reached. Congrats to:

    B) jahoadi and john on 17,000 B)

You know, someone has to make that costume for him before the next fall camp out.

Calling for costumes are we? ... and you, the Lollypop Kid!

Sounds like another FlagMan-event to me.

Just image this gang of desperados as Munchkins!

LOL! I've been called many things, but never a Munchkin!

Hey everybody ... did she just ask for it or what?

    Lost Munchkin Clan

No, wait, there ain't no "everybody" on th' Forum

    any more is there?.

 Kinda like "Where's Waldo"! Don't worry, Harmon - everybody is still here, waiting to see what you'll come up with next! (But I won't give up my FB. I love to follow what all my caching buddies are up to!)

  17. Maybe so ... but what about this?

    WLYH+OYWD+Thirsty+Ladies.jpg

Baked or boiled or in a stew!

What a crock! Those ladies are all smiling 'cause Harmon paid them!

Twenty bucks apiece and a fiver for th' dawg. What's your price Jodi dear?

If y' want I'll 'shop y' into the photo. Time t' change their nickname from

    "Thirsty Ladies" to "Tasteful Ladies."

I just hope they all knew not to go wanderin' off to any bushes for the purpose of  ... uh ... ya know, with Harmon around! He always keeps that camera of his handy in hopes for that memorable photo op!

Yes, Harmon, you are definitely an HTL! :D I had a feeling those pictures might end up on here. But I was really hoping you would Photoshop us thinner! :anicute:

(Good thing he doesn't do FB - there is SO much ammunition on there!)

  18. In the regular forums a lot of reviewers get bad names, but I've never read anything bad about our two.
Guess you missed FlagMan's comments about Marko, then...
    :blink::blink::D
WooooHoooooo!!! I think I was finally successful in getting that Pinko Commie fired!!! :D:laughing::laughing:
O please, say it isn't so ... that Commie Pinko Reviewer guy would never give up without a fight.
Noooooo! San Diego is so lucky to have two such dedicated reviewers... This new person has a lot to live up to!!! :drama:

I'm betting the new guy is no better than the old guys... :anibad:

    Who said it's a guy?

It's probably a good thing we have another reviewer if it is in fact a third one. San Diego cachers keep the ones we have really busy, and I'm sure they could use a break! I just hope he/she isn't replacing either of the ones we have right now, but is an extra pair of hands! :D
