Hello again everyone, After learning some bad news from a friend I decided to work on this design. The first image is the rough draft I did in about one minute. The following image took me the last few hours, with the help of a photo of the GPS unit. To my knowledge there are no other pins like this, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Would there be much interest in this design? Ideas on improving the image are welcome as always. My idea was to help raise funds for my friend's father. They don't have insurance and I was planning on all proceeds going to help pay medical bills. All future sales after these bills have been covered would donate not less than $1 to help locate the coordinates for a cure. To GC.c, I hope my post does not break any rule, please edit what you must. I'm just trying to help a friend. Thanks, maldar Edit: image

I have been mislead once too about a coin stating it was sold out, but later saw it was available from the makers of the coin. maldar

Thanks for the info. I used the same circle for each hand. Maybe if I change the coloring it would look better. What the Garmin Ledgend looks like. That is a shrunken image of it in her hand, LOL. I only spent the afternoon making the original image and have not gotten back to it untill now. She liked it so I figured why change it. Now is a good time to tweak certain aspects of the image and everyone's help is much appreciated. Thanks for all the ideas and keep them coming. Even if you think your idea is silly or minor, it could inspire big change. Thanks, maldar

I was looking for this thread as I knew I saw this post somewhere, so here it is: PayPal User Agreement (excerpt): 11.3 Qualification Requirements. In order to qualify for coverage under the Seller Protection Policy, you must meet the following requirements: g. You must ship the item to the buyer within 7 Days of receiving payment. Or, if you are selling a made-to-order or pre-ordered item on eBay, you must ship the item within the time-frame you specified in your eBay listing as long as the buyer agreed to the extended time-frame at the time of payment. This should clear things up for everyone. As Ebay owns Paypal I thought they should fall inline with eachother. maldar Edit: grammer

Trade Equal, Up or Just Get the Darned Thing Moving!
maldar replied to winwin56's topic in Trackables
We have a cache near me where you have to Trade even for everything or the cache owner will delete your log. He did this to me and made a comment that it is a requirement to be able to log the cache and gave my virtual caches as an example of being the same. Virtual caches are totally different and mine fall inline with what is generally exceptable requirements: 1) must have picture of yourself with GPS 2) Half Dome in the background in above picture 3) Picture of GPS at listed coords or you have to email me the answer to the questions on the cache page. All those are to prove you have been to the cache site. Personally I want my trackables to move and if they have a goal then I would like to see them get there. Thus far only one has gotten to its destination while all the rest have gone poof. One got so far as to be picked up from the location I dropped it off at and no answers back from the messages I have sent to the cacher. So all in all I think that the rule and it should be one. Trackable are exempt from the Trade Even, Trade Up or Don't Trade rule. Really that rule is subjective. What I think might be "even: or "up" could be the opposite for the cache owner/logger. You could take a coin and leave one of those Trolls that where popular years ago and it be worth hundreds of dollars and I would still think of it as trading down. Not that it would happen, but to give an example. Where you could leave a box of chalk from the dollar store and it would be alright with me. Nothing like see a kid really excited about getting the chalk or crayons I leave. I got to see that once at an event cache and it made me happy too, more fun watching the little girl try to make up her mind between the two, lol. I cache for the experiance and enjoyment, not personal gain. Thanks for reading my rant. It was not suppost to be one, but ended up that way, sorry. maldar -

Some might fall into the "Homage" catagory. This is like a Nastalgia (sp?) moment, like, "remember those toys we use to play with?" and honoring all those hours spent playing with them. Wish I would have thought about making this one. They bring back the memories and I hope my mom still has them. maldar

Wow, I like that. I could do it with both. Have a foot on the edge of the Logo and her reaching for the "Trackable at Geocaching.com" in the arch. This is a good idea for another coin. I like it very much. One of the monkies should be scratching he head in wonder. Thanks for the ideas. maldar

I'm thinking about getting 250 done so I can get the icon. Icon would look just like the tablet, but have 2008 along the side incase I decide to do another run or similar coin in the future. The response has been good thus far. maldar

I have a question. What do you mean by "something different with her left hand?" Since she uses a Garmin Ledgend when we are out caching I'm going to stay with that design. After reading the comment on the ammo can I gave it some thought and I think it could be view either way; as, hey I found it or I'm goint to place it somewhere. I do think I need to add the tail, when I made the original some months ago I was not sure how to do it. Thanks for the ideas on the background. The original was made to look as if a child used a crayon to color in the picture. I didn't do that to the monkey itself as I thought it would not look right, not enough color. Edit: Spelling

i am not normally a naysayer, but this frankly is a little strange looking. are you sure this is how your niece sees herself? please forgive my frankness. rsg My niece is a very cute 12 year old girl. She looks nothing like a monkey nor thinks she looks like one either. The name comes from when she was little and climbing and hang on everything, not her looks. She still likes the name and loves all the cartoonish monkey type things out there. Do you only wear Red Shoes? I'm betting that is a no, nor do you see yourself as a shoe.

Good point, these coins could actually be stolen from someone else. You never know. Ask they would be activated under Signal, but given away for special service and other things. maldar

This is what the coin looks like so far. Her name is MonkeyKathleen. I have not talked to her yet about what she would like on the back. The design comes from the image I made for her, shown below. I hope I can get the white placed back in with inking. Any suggestions would be appreciated. maldar edit: forgot some information

ok youngster! fisher price little people dog. here is the keychain version. boy these things bring back memories. All the one you show are the plastic one. We have some of the wooden ones at my parents still. They must have been my brothers'.

I did think about that, but this is what my vision was when I first thought about the coin. I thought about using a little GPS below the curve lettering, or the open source Geocaching logo. One of the reasons I chose not to use a GPS form was that not everyone has the same unit. I would have to lean towards the Garmin GPS units as that is what I use. I will take any suggestion through the weekend. I have paid to have the dies made, but I emailed them to hold off if they have not started. If they have already started the dies I will just go with this design, but I like to have input and I should have asked for it before I got so far along. I will post up the other coin I'm working on to get suggestions. Thanks for all your input, maldar

Sweetness. Cannot wait to see what the other one will look like.

I like your numbering idea, but I would rather see binary; as we are talking tech. As for the gold lettering, I will have to think about it; but it does sound really interesting. What do you think about a glow-in-the-dark green fill on black nickel? While I agree that the 3D stone look would be interesting. I really like the clean look to represent tech/new/young. That could be a design for the future. Think CompassRose Coins, just not as often. I do have 2 other coins I'm working on. One is going to be my niece's, MonkeyKathleen, Personal Coin. If you visit here profile you can see the piece of art I'm working with. The other one is going to be my Personal Coin, which will larger than this one I think. There will be a mini coin that will be a companion coin to my personal coin. Maldar

Here is what I'm looking at producing. I decided on the tablet look because that is how I always viewed the 10 commandments. While I did think to have something resembling cracks throughout the design I decided against that form. I thought that cracks implied great age and since Geocaching is so young they would not appropriate. Before anyone ask, I received permission from Dave Ulmer to use his name and mozartman gave me permission to use his version of the Commandments. I thought mozartman's version were more inline with the original Commandments, not to mention they were the first I read and inspired me to do this coin. The following plating is what I was considering: 10 Polished Gold 10 Antqiue Gold 1/2 of Remainder as Antqiue Silver Other half as Antqiue Copper The first 2 would be ones I'm using for personal use. My current estimated price is $7/coin. Well, tell me what you think. Any constructive comments are appreciated. EDIT: Changed picture

OK, ok. I will post the artwork. Just need to give it a once over, as I keep tweating it alittle here and there.

Hello Everyone, I'm working on my first coin and one of my biggest concerns is making just the right number of coins. What has been people's best experiance quantity wise? In other words, for coins you have had made, what quantity seemed to work the best for you? Right now I'm at the stage of paying for the die and getting samples so I don't want to list the coin itself here as I'm not 100% sure on what finishes I will have. I know that where will be 4 finishes and the coin will be 3 in tall by 2 in wide with 3mm thickness. As a second thought/question. What finishes do people prefer on their coins? One that I know will not work on my design is Black Nickel or a really dark finish, so if you have any other favorites please post them. Thanks, Maldar

Keep checking back. You can find a Garmin Etrex Ledgend here for around that much and I think it is the best starter GPS. Believed I just saw one listed for about $65. -
Colorado 400T plus City Select SD Card

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the Palm IIIc I used for caching years ago. Thought they would have figured that one out by now. maldar -
Colorado 400T plus City Select SD Card
maldar replied to Bazzer's topic in GPS technology and devices
Are any of the Colorado's good for "general use backpacking, mountain biking, etc"? I have a GPSMap 76CSx and am happy with it, but just wondering. maldar -
Yes I logged it the second time. Since the first time the cache was removed by him when he removed all his caches due to someone tampering with his caches, I didn't think much of logging it again. I thought he resolved the issue with that person and that was why the cache was back. I thought that since GC.c has guidelines about seasonal caches that it falls under that criteria and it sould remain the same cache. If the theme of the cache page changed alittle nor it a park and grab in a cemetry I would be more tolorent. At least the guy that changes his cache every 3-6 months in a local 1 cache park makes me walk more that 5 feet from my car. Yes, as someone pointed out I do have a certain way I play the game. Coming from the era of having to drive hundreds of miles just to find enough caches to break into the teens makes one view caching differently. Maybe that is why I perfer Terra Caching. There is not a need for a cache every 501 ft or whatever it maybe. Back then I was discovering new locations and not the dead animal behind McDonald's Dumpster. Back then my only complaint was people not informing us about entry fees as I rarely carry cash on me. maldar

I'm really getting tired of seeing this cache as a new placement almost each year. Placed 4/1/2005, Published 3/17/2008 Placed 3/27/2007, Published 3/27/2007 Placed, 5/11/2005, Published 5/11/2005 I found the cache the first 2 times it was place as the first time it was removed because someone was harrassing the hider by using a similar user name (and added character I believe). Now the hider states that it will be placed as a new hide each year even though the cache is EXACTLY the same. Sure, it is nice to have a cache placed to honor a love one that has passed on, but this cache really falls into the catagory of SEASONAL AVAILABILITY. It is no longer a UNIQUE cache at this point. Personally, it needs to be deactivated at the end of the season and reactivated at the begining of the next season. What do others think about caches that are like this one? If anyone want to take my number of hides into account, 8 of my hides no longer show as I adopted them to another cacher when I moved. I bring this up as others have looked at my "numbers" after my move and tried to imply that I had no right to say anything since I had so few. For those that will say, "Just block it." I would have to do so each year, part of the point I'm trying to make. If you know of other threads on this topic please link them, I did a few searches, but was unable to find ones I thought were related. maldar
