This is the first prototype that is close to what the real coasters will look like. The edges will be smoother than this one. I have to admit that it is my fault that they are not smooth. Forgot to coat the mold with a release agent, oops . Well, spit out your thoughts and thanks for them in advance.

I have a prototype drying out right now, but I think the medium I used was too old. It is not what I plan to use for the finished product, I just wanted to get a sample made and see what it would generally look like. The "G" has been split into 6 sections, as it is not possible to cut the glass out unless you have special equipment. I will post an updated photo in the future. Remember, I plan to make coaster sized rounds also, not just the patio stones. The coasters are roughly 4 inches in diameter. Patio stones where just an off shoot of the coasters. As for the coin. I have been thinking about the design on the back and I think I will be going with the geocaching logo, but with a translucent enamel fill. PetersTrio, if I don't find a job in the next couple of months I may do just that, as I would like to see this in coin form also. Kind of still upset about the hiring freeze that was implemented at the company I was to start with only less than a week before my start date.

You are correct fairyhoney. I have been wanting to get into stained glass for awhile. These projects are what I thought would interest cachers. I did think of another use for the walk way sized stones. Cachers that have RVs or campers sometimes have a wooden sign with their name and city, state on in; a stone leading into the RV/camper/campsite would be a nice addition.
  4. Thanks Mystic and Nosnow, When I was thinking of the design it was mainly as a window light catcher. I added the idea for a necklace after wards. Foil would be a better option. Totally forgot about fusing, until I visited the glass shop today. Only wish I had the money to by a kiln, though I'm sure I could buy time on theirs.

I have not thought much about a back to them as I plan for them to mainly be something to be used as it is designed for. Though using wire shapes and numbering each one sounds like a good idea for the back.

Wow, Bryan fast; I submitted the design right after I posted it here and he has approved it already. If you are interested please post what color(s) you would be interested in for the "G"eocaching logo and how many. As stained glass varies in colors try to state things as dark or light red, blue, green or whatever color. I'm looking at them costing $10 or less for the coaster sized.
  7. Wow, Bryan is one fast frog. I submitted the design right after I posted it here and he has approved it, as stated in the 1st post. If you are interested please post what color(s) you would be interested in and how many. As stained glass varies in colors try to state things as dark or light red, blue, green or whatever color. 8. I think these would be better than just glass. If the glass broke, the lead came would hold most of it in place and it would be less of a hazard. I thought about just glass, but I like the safety of having the ring for protection. If there is much interest I could remove the ring and drill a hole trough the glass. This would mean resubmitting my design to Bryan, but it could be done.

With Parcel post the shipping would be easier to handle, and if you bought other items with it, better still.

The nice thing about doing something like this is that they are not being imported.
  11. I know that people have talked about glass coins before and I think this is a good option. This would use stained glass wrapped in copper foil with a loop at the top to hang it from in the window. These would be the size of most coins 1-1/2 or 2" in diameter. The glass would be etched with the geocaching logo and tracking numbers. These could most likely be worn as a necklace, though I'm not sure as to the weight.

I thought about this the other day and want to know what people think. The product would be made using stained glass and a coaster mold. It would be about 4-1/4 inches round and about a 1/2" thick. The lettering would be etched into the glass. As I have not made one yet I'm not sure if I can keep the Geocaching logo in one piece. The logo no matter what would be all one color and that color would not be used in the surrounding glass. The nice thing about this is that each one would be slightly different than all the others. I would also offer to make them with your design on them instead of the Geocaching logo. Such a service would have fees involved for set-up of the design. I'm also considering making path stones with the same design that would be trackable. These would be nice to have leading to your house or at an event. I plan on making this into a coin at some point but I know people are interested in things other than coins. Not to mention that the economy is not treating me good.

  15. Since I'm starting training for a new job down in Fort Wayne, IN I will not be able to ship any coins after Saturday as I leave Sunday. Anyone that wants to purchase a coin needs to place an order by Saturday night at 9pm Eastern Standard Time. All orders after that will be cancelled and the money refunded. Vist http://thestevens.name/store.html to order your coins. I don't know when the store will reopen since I will have to make arrangements for someone to process and ship the coins. On the good side, once I complete my training (7+ weeks), I will be able to start getting the other designs I have finished and into production. maldar Future GeoTrucker
  16. To sell it and really discuss the coin here it needs to be trackable. Since you are asking about what is preferred that can be set off to the side until you make a decision on what you are doing. Now for my answers: Most cachers like to have coins that are trackable, be it to keep or release. A trackable coin that is unactivated is more valuable that one that has been activated. Can you do both the tracking number and the serialized number? Size is not a big deal and you are only talking about 1/4th of an inch. Is it going to be cheaper for you to make the smaller coin? If you plan on doin another coin in future years you could have them design one side that you will reuse each year and have them make a spot that you can have the year engraved and the other side of the coin can be a different design each year. maldar

  19. Here is what arrived in my mailbox this afternoon. It is a trade with Sweetlife. I will be sending out the trade coin on Friday Sweetlife. I have 2 other packages that need to be sent also, just need to wait to get paid before I can get them out. It has been a rough couple weeks, but things are looking up as I just passed my tests to get my Instruction Permit to become a GeoTrucker. WOOT, if all goes well I hope to be debt free in 6 months and a mortage to my name. maldar
  20. Just how many coins do you want made and do you want them trackable. The minium for each is normally 100 coins. While I would love to be the person you go through to make the coins I have too much on my platter to offer the service. I do suggest: www.atwellfamily.net/geocoins www.castlecoinsandpins.com www.tsunrisebey.com www.landsharkz.ca www.hogwildstuff.org www.lillysue.com www.crakeproductions.com Check them out as they either make some great coins and/or are active in the forums. maldar
  21. Wow, I like that also. Nice idea, way to go.
  22. Personally I think the OP is arrogant. For one I would not "searched the trademark database", I would just contact the campaign HQ and ask about using the image. The OP is basically stating that the images are not trademarks which is once again even more arrogant. Go ahead and sell your coin, just don't whine too much it something happens due to the trademarks. When I made my coin recently I contacted mozartman to use is version of the 10 commandments of geocaching and also Dave Ulmer to make sure using his name was okay with him as mozartman used it in one of the commandments. Happily they both gave me the go ahead, I just need to send them their coin. maldar
  23. It isn't trackable and says 17/100, that's a lot of coins? I don't think Tooey could make out the "/". At first I thought the "/" was a "7". Which would have made it 177100 <=== Now that is alot of coins. maldar
  24. Does the McCain one come in a Toilet Paper Edition? Cottenelle Softness preferred, but is most likely going to be like sand paper.
