  1. I tried the tool to convert a track I had saved in MapSource into a route. MapSource couldn't read the resulting GPX file with the route.
  2. That is an impressive collection I see several Rinos in that picture. Have you used them for geocaching? What is their accuracy? Are they HCx models? My brandnew 530 HCx is useless for geocaching. I walk slowly towards the cache with 8+ satellites in good view and an accuracy of +-16 feet and can't find it because I'm really over 100 feet (sometimes 300 feet) away from my true location. So I have to use the 60CSx to find the cache. I never know whether I can trust the 530 HCx. This is very frustrating - given the money I paid for the three Rinos I bought
  3. I'm wondering whether anyone has any experience with the different chipsets? Does Garmin use different chipsets in identical units? My current problem is with my new Rino 530HCx. Using WebUpdater I see that there is an update for Chipset Type B. I expected to see Type M (because supposedly the HCx units use the MTK chip and I had seen that chipset Type M on my nuevi). Does anyone have input in regard to the chipsets used on HCx units. My Rino 530 HCx is on SW 2.5 and Firmware 2.4.
  4. OK, to go a little off-topic here, all I can think about after reading this post is of someone walking around with a 60CSx and 3 Rinos in hand Any chance you could post a picture of this, or at least describe the setup? Fully understood I held two units (60CSx and one Rino) in my hands and had the other two Rinos on belt clips. At known locations I would take the two Rinos of the belt to check how much they are off, how many satellites they are seeing, what their accuracy is. I met a couple of people in the forest who were smiling at me or making comments. They must have thought I'm really scared to get lost
  5. The newest version for the Rinos is 2.5. Since my main problem is the location (which is easily over a 100 feet off) and the units are useless right now for geocaching I would upgrade in a heartbeat. The speed issue was just an observation I made and I hoped it would help pinpoint the issue -otherwise it is secondary. Location, location, location ...
  6. I don't really care for the speed either - it was just on observation that might have helped pinpointing the problem. What I care a lot about is my location. Did you take your two units geocaching? I have done it now several times and it is almost impossible for my children to find geocaches with them, while they find them easily with the 60CSx. The Rino 530 HCx is between 50 and 300 feet off and once we are at the cache (with the help of the 60CSx) we notice that the Rino's track is moving on the screen towards the cache. So while we are there for a couple of minutes the Rinos move to the right location. When we start to walk, they will drift away again. When we stop again, they will drift back to the right location. How is your geocaching experience?
  7. I recently got 3 Rino 530 HCX and have several issues with them. The biggest issue is that they are easily 200 feet off and thus are unusable for Geocaching. I'm in contact with Garmin and have now tried several things that were suggested by them (autolocating, resetting). Normally I wouldn't look at my walking speed, but today I happened to look at it while testing the units again. I noticed that all three units were showing 0 for speed while my 60 CSx was showing between 1.7 and 2.3 miles/hour. During my 20 minute walk the Rinos would only from time to time (every 30-60 seconds) show a speed and then they would most often show a higher speed then the 60 CSx. Has anyone seen this before? Could that be related to the problem I'm having?
  8. I have exactly the same issue with 3 brandnew Rino 530HCx. I called customer service and they told me to autolocate the units (hold CALL while powering on). That didn't solve anything. I also emailed customer service. They answered after a couple of days that I should reset the units (hold PAGE and ENTER while powering on). Again the units show the same behavior. One additional observation I made today when walking with the 3 Rinos and my old 60CSx is that the 60 CSx would show my speed (usually between 1.7 and 2.3 miles/hour) while the Rinos would show 0 for most of the time and only occasionly (like once every 30 seconds to 60 seconds) display a speed which then was usually higher than what the 60CSx showed.
  9. I talked to Garmin and their rep Steven told me to autolocate the Rinos and turn on WAAS. WAAS was already enabled and I followed his instructions to autolocate the units (hold call button while turning them on). I now went on a 1 mile walk with my good old 60 CSx and a Rino 530 HCx around a course with seven caches. Here is a screenshot of the two tracks. Does anyone else see behavior like this? I saw some posts for Vista HCx and Colorado units that seem to have similar problems. If Garmin can't fix that problem I will have to return the three Rinos. They are useless for geocaching as it stands. Or does anyone here have any idea what could help. Uuups - now I can't figure out how to insert the sceenshot. "Insert image" does't give me a popup to browse for the picture but wants a URL. Any advise?
  10. Yes, I upgraded the firmware on all three Rinos before using them. We use them with - Compass on - WAAS on - Backlight turns automatically on whenever a button is pressed
  11. I recently purchased three Rino 530 HCx, so my children can go geocaching on a very long leash. The Rino 530 HCx allows us to communicate via walkie talkie and we can see each other's position on our screen. We have now used it for three weekend geocaching excursions and all three weekends have been very disappointing. Basically what happens is that the Rinos tend to drift off when walking at a slow speed. As a result it is extremly hard for the children to find caches. I would always find the cache with our old 60CSx while the three Rinos would show that they are anything between 50 and 300 feet away. BUT the Rinos would almost always peep after a couple of minutes while we were at the cache, filling out the log and looking through the items. What happens every time with all three Rinos is that once they are put down on the ground - so the kids have their hands free to go through the items in the cache - the location on the map screen would slowly drift in a straight line towards the cache until it is almost there (most times within 10-25 feet). Does anyone else have similar observations? I noticed on the board that owners of Vista HCx and Colarado units complain about similar effects. We run the newest firmware 2.5 for the Rinos. These units are basically useless for us if there is no firmware update that fixes this problem.
  12. Did you leave your GPS on when you took breaks? I have the same issue with my 60CSx. It always wanders when we stop. I ran a simple test and put my old Vista C and my new 60 CSx on a picnic table during a break. I reset the odometer before and was amazed to see how far my 60CSx had travelled while laying on the table. You might want to check that with your Legend HCx. So I have to turn off my 60CSx whenever we stop if I want to get an accurate measurement of my hiked distance.
  13. I have also seen this on the Legend HCx I see the same behavior on the Rino 530HCx
