  1. Now I've gone a bit further... SW 2704.8mi Fort Elizabeth
  2. Our family would be willing to help out too. Let us know
  3. Out of curiosity, how did you get your name on there?
  4. Look as if everyone wants to control it but no one wants to take action. Again, I offer to take the project and finish it. The art work is not mine, though, and I really don't have the right to run with it unless the designer gives permission. I don't think it was a matter of not wanting to take action. We just really wanted to make it trackable, which I know doesn't matter to everyone - but seemed like it mattered to enough people - and not really everyone that was posting on here. I know it has been awhile. Not that I am making excuses - but awhile ago we decided to have me stay home with our children and cut our income WAY WAY back. Collecting so many of these coins was unfortunately one of the things we had to cut out. Amazing how much money was flying out the door I sure miss getting fun shiny stuff in the mail every day..... I know many of you know what I am talking about. We should have information very soon. Atwell Family has offered to work with us to get this out very soon. I have sent him our artwork and am going to let him run with it. I will have them update once they are ready to take the next step with it. Mrs. Blue Power Ranger
  5. We will for sure be there. As the half of our team that caches a tad bit less this was probably my most fun day I have had geocaching. We are still coming up with a team name, but will for sure have a team!
  6. So is there a way I can modify and old one to run a PQ on a particular bookmark list or am I stuck until this is resolved?
  7. I thought I would start a new thread to discuss the Missoula Cache Machine since a lot of people tend to overlook things burried in other threads. We had a blast in Yakima and are already excited about heading over to Missoula in a couple of months! We just booked our hotel. We are going to be at the Wingate by Wyndham. I am sure people will find cheaper rooms but for anyone with kids - it is a great place to stay since they have indoor waterslides. I tried to book on Expedia, but the hotel is already showing sold out there and on the Wyndham website they have rates that have to be fully prepaid with no cancel policy. I was able to get a 2 Queen bed room for $125 by calling the hotel direct. I don't know if hotels will be an issue generally that weekend with availability. I just thought I would give the heads-up.
  8. Has anybody taken a swipe at ordering a list integrating the micro and the standard routes? I let autorouting manage my turn-by-turns for the most part but I was interested in seeing if anybody has put an order together if they were planning on doing both routes at the same time.
  9. Congratulations to both R-L-Painter and superhoser. R-L-Painter found his 2000th cache at our cache placed to celebrate our 2000th cache!! Y?2K Superhoser just a few days before that found the same cache for his 1600th!! Congratulations to both of you! And thanks for visiting our favorite spot in Federal Way!
  10. I know that we are going a bit off topic but it is kind of interesting. I didn't realize that they preyed so heavily on cats. I figured that cats were fast or agile enough to evade a coyote. However towards the end of last summer, I was looking for a cache on a powerline trail in Redmond and I remember coming across a severed cat limb right in the middle of the trail. I wondered at the time how/why but I think I may have my answer now.
  11. "a coyote" - "the coyote"... They think there is only one? Now that is funny. I was finding this cache with Churre11 in the pre-dawn dark this Saturday in very urban Tacoma and we saw at least three coyotes out in the field. It was very neat to see the little bit of wildlife right in town.
  12. Thank goodness. I just worry that once a precedent is set, that a ban is the "easiest" solution for a land manager to choose. I hope we are not the ones pushing for, asking for or even encouraging a "policy". "Discovery Park had a 'problem', they banned caches, problem solved. Lets do that in every park then. " My opinion... Policy + City of Seattle = Bad News (sorry if I sound pessimistic but I'm unimpressed with several moves made by the City of late and I hope this is different.) Again, thanks to all those who have worked on our team to resolve their concerns.
  13. From my perspective I don't really think anybody here is trying to attack or beat anybody over the head. After all we are on the same team and believe it or not we do this for "fun". Certainly I hope anything I have said has not seemed accusatory or overly critical. Of course I very much appreciate anybody who takes time out of their lives to represent us as a community. I know what they say about hindsight and I also know that it is a lot easier to play quarterback from my armchair. I’ll take this opportunity to say “thank you” to those who attended this meeting, wrote letters to the park and used their best judgment to handle the situation as they saw fit. For me, I just feel a huge sense of frustration when very serious accusations and allegations are hung on our community when they in my opinion, they very likely lack substance or are grossly exaggerated. I don’t worry about the issue of Discovery Park in particular as much as I see the slippery slope lying in front of us of having caches either banned in all City of Seattle parks or of having some ludicrous contract that nobody in his/her right mind would sign in order to place a cache. I recognize that caching as it becomes more and more popular will not remain as it is today. More and more restrictions and limitations are coming and for better or worse I believe we will be driven out of a lot of these great public places. Making enemies within the parks department of course won’t help but I honestly don’t know where the line should be drawn between defending ourselves or turning the other cheek yet again. In this particular case, I think that I feel as I would if I were accused of shoplifting and instead of being shown the evidence of my crime and given the opportunity to defend myself, I simply agreed not to go to that store anymore with understanding that “maybe” we can talk about me shopping there again sometime in the distant future. I’m no longer at risk of being prosecuted but at the same time the owner of the establishment feels justified in their accusation and I am left with a mark on my reputation and a pit in my stomach. Ultimately I think we as a community need to take care to insure that when we are placing caches, we are aware of the damage that might be done to an area where caches are placed. True, you might have fantastically camouflaged micro that you can place out in the woods and would love to show it off to the rest of us but is what you are doing really in the best interest of the environment and thereby our reputation as a community? We need to call out those caches that are doing harm before land managers do it for us so we don’t find ourselves in this position again in the future.
  14. I would be willing to place a cache for you. Do you prefer that it be in a major venue area such as Seattle or can it be on the outskirts of Seattle? We have no preference as to location. Only that it mean something to you and represents the state well. If you can confirm that you will take this on, I'll have the Mrs. send you the details. (HTML template, code #, etc.) Thanks!
  15. With the recent demise of caching in Seattle's Discovery Park, we have had to archive our Cache Across America - Washington cache. This cache was originally hidden by Fishiam and we adopted it to keep it up and running when he decided to take a break from caching. This cache was part of a large series that I put together in cooperation with hiders in each of the 50 states and a hider of a final cache in Washington DC. The idea was born in a forum thread. Basically, each of these 50 state caches contain a numeric clue which, once you have collected all 50, plug into a puzzle to find a final cache hidden in our nation's capital. In my opinion, this is one of the toughest challenges in all of caching to complete. I know that it sounds insane and impossible to think that somebody would have to find a specific cache in each of the 50 states but there are several cachers out there doing just that and one father and daughter team actually managed to finish the whole series. Here is a bookmark of all state caches and here is the final in Washington DC. Well, basically I'm hoping there is somebody out there that would be willing to hide a new Washington State cache. We (the Mrs. and I) started and maintain communication with all hiders in the series but we prefer if possible for other cachers to own and maintain the individual caches as it is already a chore to make sure that all 51 caches remain active. Our hope is that you will hide a regular cache in a location that defines the state of Washington to you. It may be a scenic view, or a piece of history that interests you. If you look at the other cache pages, you will get an idea of what we need. We prefer that these be regular sized caches whenever possible (no micro), that the area where it is hidden be accessible the vast majority of the year and that the terrain/difficulty not be too great. There are several retired couples etc. working on this challenge. If you are interested in taking this on for Washington and either think you know of a great place you could hide a cache or would be willing to re-purpose one of your existing caches, please let us know. We would like to see this up and running within the next couple of weeks. -Blue Power Ranger
  16. Wow - this is so sad. One of the best parks in the city of Seattle is for now at least off-limits to caching with only a "glimmer" of hope for the future. Hopefully this isn't the start of a city-wide restrictive policy. I hope owners of other cachers in the city are mindful of where/how their caches are hidden. I'll archive the cache that I adopted in Discovery Park. Can anyone that was in attendance elaborate on the damage reports or what the driving factor was in them deciding to do this. Nothing I have seen from them on this forum really tells in any level of detail what happened.
  17. Great! It seems that if there were issues serious enough to warrant contacting Groundspeak, they surely have documentation (internal emails at minimum) in regards to environmental impact, habitat destruction etc., all very serious allegations.
  18. Actually it is not an assumption. The logs on the disabled caches show: It seems this email should have been included in the information provided to Lightning Jeff along with any replies from Groundspeak. I'd be interested to see if that email provides further details or if this is all just anecdotal.
  19. Stay informed, don't light the torches and leave the pitchforks in the barn. Let's just wait until we've had a chance to have our first face to face meeting with the parks before everyone starts making assumptions. In the interest of staying informed, can the original letter and subsequent correspondence between Seattle Parks and Groundspeak be shared on this thread?
  20. VERY INTERESTING! Noticeably missing is the email that was sent to Groundspeak that started all of this. Why don't they have this? Also, there is apparently zero documentation in regards to any damage caused by cachers/caching. Not even to so-called owl nest incident. (gimme a break) Interesting also that in one letter (pg. 20) to a prospective hider they state that you don't need permission to place caches in Seattle parks and then they contradict themselves when they emphasize that caches were placed without permission in several others. While I totally agree that we need to handle this diplomatically, I think we should also call Boloney what it is. Public parks belong to the people and as stated is NOT prohibited in Seattle Parks. What can we do to help resolve this situation in a timely manner?
  21. The cache is back now. Thanks for the input.
