  1. A pretty good picture of it. The home site, http://www.osei.noaa.gov/updaterecent.html usually has some good satellite pics. Not updated every day but aften enough to check occasionally.
  2. Looking for a Denmark coin. I tried looking for it to buy online but I guess they are sold out. As my wife is Danish/Swedish it would be great to have a couple! I do have a bit to trade but they are all recent and likely not very interesting. I do have a few of portraits of some dead presidents done in fine engraving that might interest a collector of such things! Bill W!
  3. If you are a premium member of geocaching.com you can use Pocket Queries to download to the BB. Use Mobipocket Reader, I have it on my 7520 and it works very well. I've even purchased some books to read too. Bill W
  4. 2 LE sets of POW-MIA coins! Very handsome! Mailed yesterday, arrived today from CA to CT overnight. Amazing.
  5. 2 sets of Original geocache "coins" (more like a brick!) and pin!
  6. Well.. if you look at the copyright on the map data, one is TeleAtlas and the other is NAVTEQ, so I'm thinking the TeleAtlas is just behind a bit I don't think they would be behind by 20 years! Looking a bit at the API, however, makes me wonder what overlays you are using. I suspect that one of the overlays is the source of the errors. Maybe I'll get myself an API key and do a little research. If I find out anything I'll let you know. It is a great feature in any case!
  7. Verry snazzy! I have a question though but it may have more to do with Google than this app. If you look at GCGJ97 you will see "Bethel Middle School", "Circle of Friends School", and "Anna H Rockwell School" NONE of these is ANYWHERE near here! At a stretch the Middle School used to be there but that has been the town hall for several years. If I go to Google maps those places are not shown. Any idea why they are different by so much or why the Schools aren't in the right places? That could be very confusing. Bill W.
  8. Agreed! Although I am not as critical of the other two than has been expressed here. Seems like that there were so many complaints about the amount of ink on the January coin that they went the other way. But it IS a very nice coin. Bill W
  9. Two March Signal coins - pretty nice ones too
  10. RAM also has a weighted non-skid base for their mounts. I ended up with the suction cup mount with the 6" flex extension and I like that very much. But I have a smallish car so you might need something longer. They do have different lengths of extensions. The RAM mount is very sturdy and well made IMO. I swap mine back and forth between my car and my wife's car all the time. Bill W
  11. Mapsource City Select (not Navigator) will give you very detailed maps. That's what I use on my VistaC which has the same memory as your Legend. Do NOT get the City Navigator! It has the same information but the map segments are packaged in MUCH larger chunks and many of them will not fit on the Legend. City Select (v7) has the same detail but has much smaller segments so you can load them easily into your Legend. HTH, Bill W P.S. If you're working off the base maps you will be amazed at the detail in City Select! I promise!
  12. I could use a new drill ... where was it that you said that cache was? But, serially, I agree with you completely and I think your example is spot on. If most people found something, hidden in Tupperware container, in the PUBLIC woods they would think that it would be theirs to keep. That we have this "special" rule that travelling items need to move along is simply a "convention" and could never be considered the rule of law. JMO, Bill W
  13. When I got my VistaC for Christmas I did a lot of research on which Mapsource to purchase. Based on Garmin's site I bought City Navigator ... big mistake! But when I complained to Garmin they swapped Navigator for Select for me and made me a happy customer. I think you can still order Select from Garmin and, maybe, from other outlets. If you can't find it then write to Garmin, they will most likely make it right. Happily I think they realize that they pushed Navigator a bit too early and the scuttle-butt is that they will have smaller map segments for Navigator V8. Personally, I like the City Select map segment size a lot better than Navigator. Unless I had nearly unlimited memory on my GPSr I'd still go for the smaller segments. Bill W
  14. I use my Blackberry cord for my VistaC all the time. If it's got a USB connector on it then it must conform to the USB standards and, because USB includes power delivery, that would make any of the devices compatable. Volts is volts. Ain't standards wonderful? Now, the data is another story. The bits are specified but not much higher than that I think. Bill W
  15. As of this moment my GPSr and my computer are about 1/2 second apart. The computer synchs to NTP (which is frequently referenced to GPS) but, because it's Windoze, it doesn't do the best job of synching. My Linux system, which is synched to NTP also and does a much better job, is closer to 1 ms difference. Many NTP systems these days use GPS as their reference source, it is closer to "real time" than reception from Boulder AFAIK. Bill W
  16. Good question, Dan. I have just started collecting coins and I wonder the same thing. So far I have ordered two of each coin, I plan on/have activating one and keeping the other. But I did order rather more of a set of micro coins that I plan on activating most and setting them loose. The problem seems to be that coins, activated or not, have a higher incidence of going missing. I mean, who wants to keep some McToy with a travel bug attached but a cool coin is "capture" material! I think I understand the dynamics but I'm not sure what to do about it. Bill W
  17. Let me see if I understand ... typical US coins (the money) would be considered 3D because they are "sculpted? And the geocions that I have, like the Signal geocoin, are 2D? But I think I did see some (the GPS coin maybe) that had a relief for a GPS satellite on it, that would be 3D? That seems to make sense to me if I am figuring it correctly. Bill
  18. I was looking at one of the minting sites and they have a selection for 2D and 3D. My coin database also has the same selections. All the coins that I own have raised and depressed parts that outline the designs and such but I "think" I would call that 2D. But, as I got to thinking about it, maybe that's 3D and a 2D coin would be perfectly flat with a stamped(?) image/picture. Could someone enlighten me? Thanks, Bill W
  19. Check out this current thread too http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=130385
  20. Oh man! Those are a must have! I do love/hate micros!!! Gotta have a dozen at least! I'll keep a few for trading and send the rest off for others to enjoy. Bill W
  21. I completely agree. That's why I have only activated half of the coins I have (I buy two and activate one) so I can put the unactivated as FTF prizes or whatever. But if it's trackable I'll treat it as a TB and move it along and I would hope that anyone who finds one of mine does the same. Bill W
  22. I've just started buying coins. Actually, I just started geocaching this year. But I've got a small collection of coins now and have activated half of them expecting to put them in caches. I haven't placed any yet. But I also wonder if that's a fruitless endeavor. The travel bugs that I have released are still actively travelling but I do wonder about the coins. Especially after spending as much on them as I have. The TB tags are cheap (plus the cost of the item it's attached to of course) compared to the coins. Bill W
  23. Got my two Robert coins ... very pretty indeed!
  24. Still waiting on mine, maybe they will come tomorrow?
