  1. I have a Dakota 20. If I run a PQ for my local area, will it pick up all that I have found or ones not found or both Thanks again
  2. Going on vacation next month so I am going to do a pocket query (first one) for San Francisco area. I have quite a few local caches loaded prior to becoming premium member(manually loaded). Will I be able to switch between the PQ and my local cache's or wil they all be blended together? Same question if I do a PQ for San Francisco and a separate PQ for Los Angeles - will they be listed separately? Thanks for the advice.
  3. I have a new Dakota 20 and that seems in line with mine. Yes, you should calibrate your compass.
  4. Dakota 20 with City Navigator on SD card, with Georgia Topo installed internally. If I am geocaching should I set up a profiel using CN for automotive to utilize the route to the cache and then set up a profile for geocaching by truning off CN and enabling the topo? Right now all maps are enabled: CN, Worldwide autoroute basemap, GA Topo, Worldwide Basemap and Digital Globe What should I have enabled/disabled for an Auto profile or a Geocaching profile? If I have GA topo do I need basemap and digital globe installed?
  5. Turn by turn works in CN. That's what people buy it for. But your DK will just beep at a turn and you'll have to look at it to tell which way to go. When I view the map in CN I see the streets, etc but the map route shows direct path "as crow flies" and does not follow the streets let alone beep to warn me when to turn. What am I missing?
  6. Just received the Dakota 20 with City Navigator. I was looking for turn by turn options with City Nav. Is this not available? I had it on the Delorme 60 with their Topo map. Not a big deal just was expecting it with CN. Perhaps I've overlooked something in the set up. Thanks for the help.
  7. I was looking at the maps on my recently received Dakota 20. I also have City Nav on SD card. These maps all came installed on internal memory: Worlwide autoroute Dem basemap; Worldwide Basemap NR; Digital Globe; USGS Quads; 6 different Birdseye maps. All are enabled. Do I need them all or all enabled? Birdseye's are from different countries.
  8. I'm considering the purchase of a Dakota 20. As this is all new to me I have been reading alot and probably confused myself. Out of the box I understand I can add caches by "sending to GPS", that I get. However if I add a topo map from GPSFiledepot and also Garmin City Navigator will adding caches be harder. In other words I thought I read that files would first have to be converted from GPX to .loc or maybe the other way around. Is that correct and if so does that take away the ease of just "sending to the GPS" option? Also thoughts on Dakota 20? Thanks in advance David
  9. Oregon 450 says nimh above 2500 recommended. Will the eneloop 2000 work in 450 ?
  10. If a GPS unit is "geocache friendly" will it accepts the hints and logs or just the coordinates? Is that the difference?
  11. I have City Navigator NT that I received with my garmin GPS(Zumo 550). Can I use this to install on a Oregon 450? If so would the whole map fit and how would I do this?
  12. Considering the purchase of Oregon 450 and would like to add free maps(retiree, also cheap) What should I add for geocaching in GA area. Also would the base maps installed allow for auto turn by turn to get to the cache location. Once there and beginning my cache hunt I assume I switch profiles to geocaching. Will the base map take over or will I need another map(topo). Thanks for the help
  13. I don't have any experience with the full featured Garmin units, but if there is a good gps signal under a clear sky, and the PN-60 is in default mode, and the "compass" flips 180 degrees, it probably means that you have walked right over the cache somewhere within the last 2-15 feet. Thanks for the response but I never got near the cache. When I got out of the car it pointed me .20 miles due south, seemed to be tracking pretty well, then directed 100' west etc, seemed as if I was going around in a large circle. Discouraged I headed back to the car and the distance started decreasing heading towards my car. Once at the car it pointed me east then west(bouncing), wuldn't settle down, in some instances pointing back towards the original treck of .20 miles south. Went home with tail between my legs and looked at cache on geocaching.com website map and the cache was.10 miles from where my car was parked NE and completely opposite to original treck and opposite(east) to where it was pointing me once I returned to car. I really wanted to keep the PN60 but lost confidence. Not sure what to do now.
  14. I read a lot of good reviews on the PN60 so I bought one. First time purchase and very new to Geocaching. I used my son's Garmin GPSMAP 62st and there was no comparison. The Delorme seemed to have trouble finding satellites, did not work well under trees(I don't mean a heavy forrest, but some trees) and the electronic compass bounced all over the place. I would be walking towards the cache(I thought) and instantly the compass would shift 180 degrees and head me in the opposite direction/. I recalibated to no avail. This was my first trip with it today and I was very disappointed, especially after seeing how my son's unit worked(liked it is supposed to). Lost confidence real quick on the PN60. Packed it up and shipped it back to Amazon - looking again. Maybe a bad unit - don't know, but opted for refund instead of exchange.
  15. Considering purchase of Etrex 20 or 30. I know the 20 does not have an electronic compass - so does it have a compass at all and what is the difference? I've used my son's Garmin 62ST and like that compass, but too rich for my blood. Also the Magellan 310 - does that have a compass to guide me to the geocche? Thanks as you can teell new to this.
  16. Thanks NicoleLackey that's exactly what I was looking for and it worked well. I will be heading out tomorrow to see if I can figure out the rest of the Delorme PN60 now that I have some cache's loaded.
  17. Senior citizen new to this. Just received a Delorme PN-60. How do I get the caches I have found by my home on the PN60. Delorme manual useless. I am not a premium member. Simple step by step would be appreciated or point me to some material to read/study. Thanks in advance
