  1. My youngest just turned two and she's into it. I was surpirsed to see her actually looking around for a cache the last time we went into the woods. She was looking in all the right spots too. My 9 year old likes it sometimes and other times hates it. Basically she likes it if she is the one to find the cache and she finds it in less then 5 minutes.
  2. I guess they'll be having make up begonias. Better get the flower bed ready.
  3. You also have the option to list your cache somewhere else with different rules. The guidelines here are a compromise to keep the most people happy. You can actually do most of the things you want if you consider how to go about in a respectful and polite manner. Saying 'f@#$ you, stupid idiot' will offend most people, but 'You're wrong, I totally disagree because....' should offend only a few. Certain aggressive churches, they come to our doors and invade our caches they are everywhere.. Hey some us get tired of the constant sermons. If I wanted a sermon I would go to church. Why can't people just be content and feel secure with their beliefs without the need to try to convert the world? I want to have fun geocaching, I don't want to have other's beliefs rammed down my throat while I am out caching. I hate that people put their religious materials in my caches, I toss it out. You have plenty of other venues to promote your agenda, leave geocaching out of it.
  4. When are people going to figure out that all this yap about terrorist is just that so we can get back to lving like we did before the 9-11 hysteria started?
  5. "Sheltonville town history" has been archived by it's owner, I think he did not know that Boppa has been maintaining it. I know that Boppa wants to adopt it but I don't know if he has officially asked. As things stand the cache is archived but I know that it's in great shape and it is a really neat cache.
  6. I just placed a travel bug hotel inside the county museum. I think the bugs are pretty safe there and the museum staff are really excited about having a cache.
  7. I'm not sure I would get too upset if small inconspicous numbers are written on the back of a bench or on a post. I have a multi-cache with numbers on the bottom of a bench - you cannot see them unless you get down and look under the bench. I probably would not do it this way, if I had to do it again. Like other guidelines, it may be hard to decided where to draw the line (no pun intended) and I wouldn't want it to be used as an example for something that really defaces property. How about writing them on masking tape and then attaching that to the bench.. It will get peeled off from time to time but that's the point, it's not permanent.
  8. Thanks for the tip, looks to be a good program and best of all free.
  9. I logged a DNF today that did not meet any of those guidlines but I knew the cache was gone. All that was left was the velcro.
  10. I am happy with plucker and spinner too. It indexes the cache pages so many different ways and automatically shows you the nearby caches. I don't think I will register cachemate. I have a friend who is not very computer and I will recommend that she uses cachemate. But for people that are computer I think spinner and plucker are the way to go.
  11. Those guidelines are for placed CACHES, if I recall. If I wanted to put out a TB for the RNC or DNC, that has nothing to do whatsoever with the cache. And besides, offense and hate are in teh eye of teh beholder. I recall a thread ayear or two back where some cache from Florida had a TB made to honor his grandfather, who happened to be on teh wrong side of WWII. He wanted the TB to go to a place in Austria. Unfortunately, he used a toy Nazi soldier - not because he was promoting Hitler or his policies, but because that is what his grandfather had been. However, people on that side of the pond didn't see it that way. Was it a bad call on the TB owner? Yeah. But what he intended and what 'they' chose to be offended at is ridiculous. Likewise with the BSA. So you're (you=rhetorical) offended by the BSA, in spite of all that they do that has nothing to do with sexual orientation AT ALL. That doesn't give you the right to be a jerk and steal the TB in revenge for some perceived wrong. I had no idea who PFLAG was until you mentioned it, but were I to find a TB, I'd still pass it on. What if someone got offended by my TB because it was from an American, and Americans are 'teh eeeevuuuuhhhlll'? SInce it is in Europe at the moment, does that make it OK that someone steals it? Because they are offended at the policies of the US? No. What if someone decided that teh plastic in which I placed my TB was not environmentally friendly? Does that give them the right to steal it because they are offended I used plastic? No. The only thing I can see being removed from circulation is pornographic TBs, as it should be up to the parent how & when to expose a child to images of a sexual nature. But for the other stuff, where the images re not gona get stuck in a kids head (or have meaning anyway), just pass 'em by or pass 'em on. I hate the way boy scouts can act in backcountry campgrounds. The leaders are to blame. I try to avoid camping anywhere near boyscouts after a few really bad experiences. I picked up a TB going to a Boyscout in Alaska and I was happy to move it on without posting anything nasty in the log. I suppose my heart strings were supposed to be pulled because this TB was going to a boyscout. I hope the TB makes it's goal but I was not going to slober all over it just because it beloged to a boyscout.
  12. I have a lot of ancestors who fought in the revolutionary war and I would love to know exactly where they are buried. I would not be offended by a gps sitting on their stone. It's not like these are people that anyone alive today has ever met. I'd like to know the GPS coords for Joseph Bozarth among others.
  13. Yes got that error all day today.. finally made it stop by clearing out my history in firefox.
  14. I got a palm m500 on Ebay for $20.00 plus shipping. (It came in the mail last Monday. I'm using Spinner and Plucker and am very happy with this set up. The palm cost me less then the price of one ink cartridge for my printer.
  15. Thanks for the great help both of you! Maybe now I will be able to figure out how to put coord into streets and tips in a way that it will accept. The marker was inside of Olympic National Park.
  16. I found this benchmark today benchmark I'm not sure what it's name is or how to look it up assuming that it is even in the data base. I found it at n 47.30.414 w 123.19.022 What is it's PID?
  17. I just placed a multi cache and I can see both legs of it from my house. I'm looking forward to watching people come hunt for it. I've found most of the caches in town and I can not afford to drive all over the place to look for new caches. So I am contenting myself with placing caches while walking around town. I've got a cache that I can see from my back door too.
  18. This could be a very useful item item to find in a remote cache. We found a cache with half a box of tampons in it, it was an ammo can in the backcountry.
