  1. Can't do it. Can't do it. Well, that was pretty helpful, wasn't it? A lot of people have been wanting the ability to change the log date within the app, but Groundspeak hasn't implemented that feature yet. As it is right now, you'll have to log it from the app, then go to the website and edit your log to change the date. That could get painful and tedious, though, so you may want to figure out your problem with the PC. The iPad just isn't a replacement for a full-fledged computer. That made me laugh. Really. Great answers. Even though they weren't what I wanted to hear, very well said. Thanks for confirming!
  2. I just realized that I couldn't find a place to change the date of find when logging from the Geocaching iPad app. I wanted to post from the app , rather than my pc, because of another problem I have. It seems like I can only post picture through the iPad app if I want to upload from my iPad instead of my pc. I don't have access to choose a file when I try to upload a picture on the Geocaching.com website. I can do this hrough he app though. Any ideas on how to do either; change the log date through the app and log a picture on the iPad through Safari web browser. TIA!
  3. Am I doing something wrong? When I am searching for a cache via maps on my iPad, it is difficult to get the cache description box to pop up. I have tried holding my finger on the little green box for a short time, then for a long time, then double clicking. It seems like it takes forever to pull up, and there is no rhyme or reason for doing so. Any help is appreciated!
  4. In setting up Event notifications, I am interested in notifications further than 50 miles away. However, when I enter over 50 miles, the default goes back to 49.XXXXXX. Am I doing something wrong? TIA!!
  5. I think I conveyed my appreciation well enough. Hello. Glad you enjoyed finding my mystery cache and got the chance to enjoy the weather. Wish I had been able to get out caching today myself. I hate to ask, but would you mind editing your log to remove the spoiler pic of the cache container. I'd like others to be surprised when they find it. Thanks, Mushroom Finder It sounds like the CO did have some communication with you since you said they stated they didn't want spoiler pics. Just curious, how did you become aware that the photo had been removed? Did you visit the page and discover it gone or does Groundspeak send one of those no reply emails or something? I love your letter Mushroom Finder! The CO did e-mail me to tell me he deleted my photo and asked that I not put spoiler pictures on his cache postings. It wasn't a letter like yours above though. It only said what I described above. I am sure he meant no harm. After looking at his profile, I can tell that he must be very busy keeping up with all of his caches. I wrote back apologizing for the post. I guess lesson learned is that I will be more careful about posting pictures, and if I ever have a problem with something that someone posts on one of my caches (if I ever get around to hiding one), then I will at least try to explain myself and be nice before just removing something that a poster innocently enters on my cache. Oh, and Groundspeak also sent me an e-mail notifying me that my picture posting had been deleted.
  6. I think it is much more of a slap in the face for the CO to remove the photo himself. If the CO would have e-mailed me and politely told me that he didn't want spoiler pictures left on his cache, and requested that I removed the picture, then I would have gladly done so. As it was, he deleted my photo and left me feeling bad. How about thanking the finder for taking the time to choose a cache to visit. Now that is a novel thought.
  7. Thanks for all of your replies! I completely understand CO's not wanting people to post spoilers, however most of the pictures I have seen on postings have the cache in the picture. I thought that the caption above the images for a cache stating that pictures contain spoilers was warning to people that don't want to take a chance of seeing any hints. I never look at the pictures unless I want/need a hint or until after I have found a cache. I would never re-post the photo after it being deleted by the CO! That would be more rude than the CO deleting it without asking me to do so myself first. I like the idea of contacting the poster and asking that person to remove the picture if the CO doesn't want a spoiler posted. Good one! BTW, I am so glad that my log didn't get deleted as well. I really meant no harm. That would have been extremely upsetting!
  8. I guess you can't please all of the people all of the time. I had a CO delete my posted picture yesterday stating that he/she didn't want spoiler pictures on his/her cache. I thought the CO's wanted pictures posted. If you just leave TFTC, it seems like people get mad at not having pictures or details. My feelings were a little hurt, but I understand it is his/her cache. I got over it pretty quickly. What is everyone's opinion about this? Am I doing something wrong in posting pictures?
  9. I equate a lot of things to playing the lottery. It is usually worth a few bucks just to dream. In this case, hoping that your traveler will survive and thrive. More often than not it is a futile effort, but there is always that chance that your TB will be the one to make it. Here's to never giving up on the dream!
  10. I will speak to the idea of hiding a cache right off the bat. I haven't been caching long, but when I first started a few months ago, I began collecting supplies to make our own cache. I am so glad that I have waited for a while to be a CO. Every time I go caching it seems like I learn of a new way of doing things, ie. cache container, contents, log type, FTF prize, hiding techniques etc. I think 50 found might be my lucky number before I begin hiding my own. Good luck to you!
  11. My first TB just got moved! I tried to search the forum for this topic, but I didn't see anything. Is it customary, appropriate, bothersome, appreciated or otherwise to e-mail the cacher that moved the TB and thank them for their time? TIA!
  12. This is off topic from this thread. You might want to start you own topic or bring up another that have answered the question, here is a link to an old topic. By the way, the above is a great link! It certainly answers my question. Thanks for sharing and your patience with a newb!
  13. I am SOOOOO sorry for posting my ramble/question above. I love organizing, which is clearly what this thread is about. I also just now read some above posts requesting that people take non-related questions to a different thread. I completely understand! I am not sure what the issue is with my iPad, which is where I generally view and participate in the forums, because as I was reading this thread last night, I did not see 5 pages of comments and the last comment that I saw was someone ranting about people stealing geocoins to keep for themselves. That was sort-of what my post was in response to. Maybe I don't have something in my iPad set right in order to view all of the pages of each thread? I will check it tonight. Again, I apologize for posting an un-related question to this thread. Thanks for understanding, I hope.
  14. While I know that the people that collect these coins are not stealing them, I am new to the world of geocaching, and I want to learn more about geocoins. I think that people should do whatever they want to do with their time, money, interests, etc; however I don't personally understand the allure of collecting the coins. If I spend the money, which can be pricey if you buy several, I want to send them out in caches. I have heard that unfortunately, one may never hear from that little coin again. I can't afford to trade geocoins as swag, which is what one is doing if the odds are that it will disappear at some point. I can totally understand if the object of the game is to collect coins that are put in caches as SWAG. To me, that brings meaning to your numbers. Out of the 40 caches I have found, I have only found one geocoin and it was a traveler with a goal. So, there is no way that most people are throwing in a couple of coins for people to take. That would be too expensive! So this brings me to my question, why do people want to collect these coins even if they have to buy all of them for themselves, and have for no other reason than to say, "I bought it?"
  15. Ooh ooh!! Me me!! I would love that. I am a former teacher and school counselor myself!
  16. I am new to caching and have released a few TB's since starting. I look at it sort of like playing the lottery. To me, it is worth a few bucks just to dream...where oh where might my little bug go?
  17. Well, I am back! Thanks again for all of the tips everyone gave! Hukilaulau, you were correct that I wouldn't have near enough time to do it all! Man, I didn't want to leave! I have been to NYC several times before, but traveling just seems to take on a whole different level of significance when you are geocaching. Here is what we didn't get to do: We didn't get to go to Brooklyn, we didn't make it to my favorite little pizza place, we didn't do "The Empire Strikes Back" cache (but we have already been there before), we didn't get to see as much of The High Line as I wanted to, we didn't make it up the HUGE incline to The Cloisers, we didn't find a cache in Central Park (not for lack of trying late one night) and we didn't run in to Gerard Butler or Edward Norton. Here is what we did get to do: We got to see the end of The High Line only to add a DNF to my list because it went from 59 degrees to what seemed like below freezing pretty quick after dark that day and we had to give up because we didn't have our heavy coats on, we had a cupcake at Chelsea Market, we went to The White Tavern for a cache we DNF (no excuses for this one), we went to Inwod Hill Park and found a couple of caches (also dropped and picked up a couple of TB's), we went to Fort Tryon Park and found a cache also dropped a couple of TB's, we did several other non-caching related activities and we stayed at the same hotel as one of the Jonas brothers. Overall, we had an awesome trip! I just wish we could have stayed longer!!! We'll return though, as soon as we can!
  18. That pretty much says it all. +1 Nailed it. Well said! We are just enjoying having a reason to get out and have fun with each other. Anything we find or don't find is just icing on the cake. The one thing that is disappointing to me is the whole trackable situation. We are all the holders of blame on this one. It has been frustrating to try and find caches with travelers in them, find the cache, but no traveller to be found. I was trying to find several caches last week with trackables in order to take them with me when I travel from Texas to NYC this week. I went to 5 different caches where travel bugs were listed but not actually in the cache. I went to one cache where a traveller wasn't listed, but there was one in there. I wish that this part of the game would work well because we think it is super fun to think of helping things to travel the world. My what stories they could tell...
  19. Here is a link to the subway map I use for planning a trip around NYC. It's pdf so you can zoom way in and scroll around to see exactly the part you want. NYC subways That is an awesome map, by the way! Thanks!
  20. Your only real problem is that you won't have enough time to do it all! I know! NYC is one of my most favorite places, but never enough time to do all that I want to do!
