  1. yes, good points, but it was very well hidden and out of plain sight. And even with the label "official geocache, please do not remove".. I just don't understand why someone couldn't respect that. Thanks for the advice
  2. I hid a cache a couple of months ago in a really good spot. Many people commented on what a good hide it was and how it was creative. The cache was a small pill bottle hidden in a wooden timber in the ground, placed with permission. Inside the cache was a cache note, log, and a few trade items. On the outside of the cache it was labeled with an official geocache sticker with the words "please do not remove" on it. I just don't understand why or how this cache was muggled.. Can anyone with experience please give me some insight as to why or how this cache was taken? Thank you!
  3. Cloth camouflage tape works well. Used for hunters to touch up their stands and stuff like that. The camouflage duct tape is shiny and is somewhat reflective, so that's why I use the cloth kind. Most outdoor stores sell it. I buy mine at Dick's sporting goods, about $6 a roll
  4. What are some good tips to be "sneaky" when searching for a cache? Whenever I see a muggle nearby I try to lollygag and wait around until the area is clear. But i've had to log a few DNF's on a couple of caches because there were so many muggles around.. I was afraid to try to find the cache. Any pointers on how to find these caches that muggles are always going to be around??! Thanks
  5. I have a mac as well, and I struggled for days on end with this same problem. The only way to download caches is to run a pocket query like stated many times above. I have been on the phone with tech support for hours on 2 different occasions, and I have even had an entire email conversation with Magellan's lead "tech" guy. It seems that they'll never solve this issue that affects so many people who have purchased their product. It's a real shame.
  6. Personally, I like to trade coins silver dollars, wheat pennies, foreign currency, things like that. Nothing too valuable but yet interesting.
  7. That worked! Thank you. It's just weird that it's the only way to download caches. happy caching
  8. I just received a new Magellan eXplorist GC as a gift. I've been geocaching for about 6 months now so I'm familiar with how everything works and I also consider myself "good" with technology. However, I am having issues downloading geocaches onto my gps. I search the caches I want to download, I ensure the gps is connected properly (it says connected to pc), I click "send to gps", and the message states it has downloaded successfully. I try this with multiple caches, all showing successful download messages. I then open the magellan device on the desktop (I have a mac), open the "Geocaches" folder, and all the caches appear there as they are supposed to, as .gpx files. I eject the gps properly, unplug the device, and when it boots up and loads, only ONE of the geocaches appears, the first one I click to "send to gps". All the others are gone. I've checked all the settings over and over. The software is up to date on everything, (mac and magellan), I've called the Magellan tech support and they are absolutely useless. I was on the phone with them for nearly 2 hours. Any advice is welcome, please help! I just want to use my new gps
