  1. I recently purchased a Microsoft Surface tablet. I successfully loaded GSAK and populated a database with caches. however when I try to send the waypoints to my GPS I get gpsbabel.exe has stopped working. The notebook has Windows 10 on it. I have no problem with my laptop which has Windows 7 installed. Any ideas?
  2. 1.5. Instant Notifications http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=184 B. Problem solved I needed the MMS not SMS for notifications. Thanks for your help
  3. I recently changed providers from ATT to Verizon as a result no longer getting notifications on my iPhone. I went in to register it with Verizon and it always says the verification failed. Has others had this problem and what is the solution? Thanks
  4. I just contacted Garmin and it turns out it was a corrupted file. It is now fixed.
  5. This just began. As long as I am not moving it shows me the map but once I start to move it goes to blue. Any ideas on what is happening?
  6. I downloaded your app yesterday and used it as I went for a cache. I love it. My only complaint is that after I select a benchmark for details and return it does a whole new search and then I have to zoom in back to where I was. I would prefer it not do that and let me control when the refresh happens.
  7. I have notifications set up to be sent both to my iPhone and to my email address. Today there were a number of new traditional caches published some of them I received on my iPhone but not my email address and some of them I received at my email address but not my iPhone. Is anyone else seeing this?
  8. Two things attracted me to geocaching: 1. exercise - hiking on trails and the woods to get to a cache 2. I can make this hobby into what ever I want it to be without any expectations by others. Yet on the forum I see discussion after discussion about people complaining about a particular type of cache. I just wonder why they don't just create their hobby and not include whatever type of cache they don't like. Having a variety of caches keeps it interesting and challenging to me. All caches have restrictions, even a 1/1 traditional requires you to find it before you can log it. My motto is no unfound cache by me will be left behind and that includes challenges.
  9. This reminds me of a neighbor of mine who had a tree with a much bigger hole that reminded him of Winnie the Pooh. So he did the same thing and built a door for it and did other things to make it really look like Pooh's home. He told his grandchildren that they should see if Pooh was home. They loved it and my grandson loved it as well.
  10. An even easier way is to save your document as Web Page, filtered and the HTML will be created for you. You can find this by doing a Save As and then look at the Save as type. Once you have saved it open it using Notepad and Copy and Paste the HTML that was created. This is how I create all of my cache descriptions.
  11. There's a subtitle? Care to share it with us other mobile users? Sorry the subtitle is GPS shuts off during startup.
  12. Has anyone experienced this problem with their 550T? I put in freshly re-charged batteries, and even hooked it up to my car adaptor and it does the same thing.
  13. If caches had to be available to the majority, that would eliminate many caches that require specialized skills, like the following: -Scuba caches -Mountain climbing/rapelling/abseiling -Specialized-skill puzzles (eg. there's a puzzle near me that requires knowledge of calculus) Personally, I don't see any reason why these aren't okay. As for where to draw the line, it's what the intention of the requirement is. Your first two examples are requirements solely to exclude cachers. There's no accomplishment, no goal to attain, just a restriction. Challenge caches, as defined by the guidelines, must be based on some kind of accomplishment or achievement. I like the way you put it. Caches with restrictions shouldn't be allowed. But all caches with a goal or accomplishment should be allowed.
  14. If you look at your example as a challenge, would the majority be able to log it ? Probably yes. Looking at the 100 caches challenge would the majority be able to log that ? Probably not. I disagree with you about the 100 caches challenge. I bet the majority can log that. The question is do they want to do that not can they do that. I did a 100 challenges in a day and it took me, alone, about 5 hours. I could have done it sooner if it wasn't raining so hard and if the caches were closer together. Not everyone wants these challenges, for me it and the D/T grid gives me something to shoot for besides just finding caches. I also met the 366 days in the row challenge as well and that is much much tougher than 100 in a day. I bet the majority could move within ten miles if a cache if that was the requirement. Its a thin line of can I, or do I want to or will I ever !!! So then who decides if the majority can do it? How does one define majority? I think you are confusing can with want to.

  16. To meet your requirements then all caches would have to be available to the lowest common denominator. No puzzle caches as they all are ALRs as you have to solve a puzzle or meet a challenge before you can log a find. The D/T cannot be any higher than 1/1 or maybe 1.5/1.5 because wheelchair bound cachers can't get to higher ones. If your request is taken to its logical end you will destroy geocaching. I am no "experienced outdoor person" but I have gotten to 4 and above terrains and I am 65. I views those as challenges to me to figure out how to get them. I do agree that requirements such as age or distance from cache or anything that has nothing to do with geocaching should be illegal. My caching motto is "No unfound cache by me will be left behind."
  17. I'm thinking that you mean for your finds to show up as smilies on other people's bookmark lists. Is that the idea? B. Yes that is what I am talking about. The cemetery list is not mine.
  18. I have often wondered why there isn't a way to enter the coordinates of where you want to hide a cache and have it tell you whether it is ok to place it there or not. geocaching.com would have to do that since they have the final coordinates for puzzles and multis.
  19. It would be great when you go to a bookmark list if it would show, via a smiley, which ones you have already found. For instance I live in Rock County, WI and there is a bookmark list of Rock County cemetery caches. While I can remember some of them I'm not sure totaly which ones I have already found. This would be a great help.
  20. Yes, they do. I did the demo Wherigo on my Oregon last weekend and it looked like a neat feature, so sometime this weekend I'm going to do a Wherigo cache. I haven't used Chirp but it's on there. Thanks
  21. I am looking at purchasing a better GPS. The Garmin Oregon 450 and 550 looks good. In addition to paperless caching I am also looking to be able to do caches that are Wherigo and Chirp. Do these 2 GPS models support that?
  22. Take your Word document and do a Save As. On the Save as type menu select Web Page, Filtered. Don't select Web Page it can create problems for your formatting. Then open that document with Notepad and then all you need to do is copy and paste and it will be formatted. For photos and box charts make sure they are on an Internet accessible server such as photobucket, otherwise while you can see it no one else will be able to.
  23. The easiest way, if you have Microsoft Word, it to create your description as a Word document, and then save it. Then do a Save As and click on the arrow for Save as Type. Select Web page, Filtered and then hit save. Then do an Open, select the HTML version of the description and right click and select Open with Notepad. Finally do a copy and then paste that into your description. Make sure you select Source on the description. Then you will have it formatted the way you want it.
