  1. It does work. A number of people complained about having problems when attempting this cache. I wrote a letter to Flintshire County Council explaining the problems accessing the public footpath that crossed a steel works. (It doesn't sound so nice but you end up going onto fine views of the tidal mud flats and the A-frame cable stayed bridge.) The security guards at the entrance to the steelworks would give you hassle - enough to prevent some people from feeling that they could continue - despite being in their rights to do so. Here is the photo of the letter I received back from Flintshire County Council. An example maybe where 'red tape' does work for the greater good!
  2. I've had a quick goosey gander on the S4C website and it's not there yet but it looks like most of the output of the Wedi programme ends up on the website - so expect links to appear here sometime soon.
  3. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I followed Matrix's advice purely because it was like a) add flour, add eggs, c) mix etc. Dead easy. I did do it slightly different though (added currants... ) and I think others may find it easier. It does require two different browsers. 1) On one browser (for argument's sake, Firefox) login as Premium member 2) On other browser (for argument's sake, IE), login as the normal member account. 3) Log find on Premium account - but before you click 'Submit Log Entry' do 4 4) Copy URL 5) Paste URL into browser being used by normal member. 6) Log find and smiley 7) Job done! Just for the record, I didn't get any error messages, and Dad's count tally has gone up and everything is looking rosey. I took Haggis' feedback too and messaged the cache owner too. Thanks once again everyone!
  4. Me and me Dad right, well, we go caching we do. Generally on Sundays. I'm the premium member. I run the queries, suck that into GSAK, squirt out new find files and off we toddle to find muddy boxes in dark damp corners of the splendid British countryside. When I get home I log the caches with photos and hopefully a funny story or two. And I copy and paste me Dad's finds. You know, just to keep his tally going. This weekend we found a number of Premium Member only caches. I don't begrudge paying a premium membership fee, I think its good value for what fun and stuff we get out of it. However, we've managed for 3 years or something like that with the status quo and these are the first premium member only caches in, ooooo, like ages or something. I've seen it discussed on here before (and I've tried the search Rutson ) and I've tried various Google queries, but I'm not getting the results. How can you fudge the non-premium member not having to be a premium member to log the premium member caches? Many many thanks in advance. Scott
  5. Hi guys n gals Looks like I've got to change my plans and won't be able to attend Piratemania... but I still need to get my event fix! I know peeps on the forums tend to know 'what is happening' out there before it is published. So talking of the camping events - does anyone know of any being planned during the first few weeks of July? Cheers n stuff
  6. Hi guys thanks for the replies, it sounds stupid, but I hadn't thought of cutting then just re-tying it. I was thinking of doing it all pure (and not necessarily simple!) and pulling the knot out, undoing it, etc. Your suggestions are much better! Many thanks
  7. To be fair with the costs, last year when the pound was almost at 2 dollars parity, my fee for a year, including PayPal gubbins was £17.something. This year, in February, was £21.00 something. In the great scheme of things... it's no great shakes. As for the place name thing, you just need to live somewhere with more unique place names. I don't have a problem with Dwgyfylchi or Llandudno....
  8. Hi everyone, some fibre glass poles last year snapped, sheared whatever you want to call it. As the weather wasn't too windy, I got them to last the season. However, in anticipation of the South Wales event (3 weeks away!) I needed to get this sorted. I have the replacement fibre glass poles. I have spare ferrules, I have spigots (see, I have been doing my research!), I have spare shock cord, I have a long metal needley thing. I know what my goal is, replace a couple of the middle lengths of pole with new ones. A) How do I undo the shock cord? The end is buried inside a ferrule thingy and the ferrule thingy is unscrewable? Do I have to replace the shock cord completely or do I (once I've figured out A) above) unthread the current shock cord, replace middle sections and just thread back in again? If you know of a link with the how-tos and where-fors that would be much appreciated. Thanks in anticipation and see you at a camping event this year, I've got South Wales, north Wales juggling, Yorkshire Dales Camping Yeti thing, Piratemania and the Mega Event lined up so the poles definitely need doing!
  9. The West Viewers have got a car Garmin GPS and that has paperless stuff on it (which I thought was really cool and I thought 'I want one') They do use a little program to do the doings but it works and I know that they are well chuffed with it. Hopefully they will logon later and tell us what nuvi they are using.
  10. SatNav shoes from firebox - do you think they are OS map aware?
  11. Ah!!! Is this because the pound is so much weaker and it now pays for others in Europe (though I know the Danish still have their Kroner and not the Euro) to buy items in sterling? if that is the case, then I need to upgrade soon before all the savvy Europeans have bought all the stocks in the UK and then the retailers in the UK need to get new units from manufacture. They will be more expensive... <note to self, get the refund that my gas account is in credit by...>
  12. I say physical activity. Sport imply rules. And rules that everyone follows consistently. Which we don't. As we all know, we all play it our own way.
  13. Nope - not a wormhole. I could see that reviewers were just getting a really hard time and they needed support by us lot adhering to rules. And in the week away, I see they've resigned. I'll stick to caching rather than foruming.
  14. You know when the police tell you to do something, you might not agree, you might disagree with the law / rule / by-law / issue that the police have with you, but you do it. Or you should do. And if you do - the police let you do your thing and you can go on your merry way. When the rule makers (courts, police or a legitimate company) tell you that you need to do something in a certain way, just accept it. Work with the rules, work with the people who are enforcing the rules, and it will all come together. Debating it, getting people's backs up and generally berating the reviewers who put in their free time to help us to waste our free time, they are not the people to be goading or debating with. Just accept their advice at face value and move on.
  15. The preform plastic bottles are good. They are designed to keep liquids in.... so they should also be able to keep liquids out. They are longer than micros - but the diameter is about the same.
  16. Believe me, parks people make mistakes with their trees; look at how they stake them for a start and this is why many parks lose so many young trees hence the over planting to start with. On a mature tree, a tack will do little or no damage but as I pointed out; they need to be moved before being grown over. Then they are fine. Ahhh! Cool - thanks for the feedback. I'll get on their case.... being a council tax payer in the area of the said parks I want my investment of publicly funded trees to last!
  17. Seems like you got it all sorted then... Free wi-fi in Budapest link. Have a good time.
  18. I'll be attending a number of training courses in Worcester over the next few months, attending on my own and with work colleagues. Who, fortunately for me, a number of which are cachers too so with weight of numbers we may even be able to convince non-cachers to grub around for a butty box or two! Just looking for suggestions really.... I've worked out the main puzzles in the city centre set by Dobunnis (formerly T-Girls) and I can see the run of caches along the canal in Droitwich - I was just looking for any top tips really! Any advice greatly appreciated.
  19. I don't doubt for one minute that the Woodlands Trust know more about trees and all things leafy far more than me. However, I could not help noticing that my local County Council who also have parks responsibility have been tagging each individual tree. In Pentre Mawr park in Abergele, Eirias park in Colwyn Bay and Bodlondeb park, Conwy the tagging has been done with an individually numbered metal plate that is tapped with two tacks into the bark. Trees that have been tagged range from mature oaks (thick bark) through to small birch and elm. Just an observation... I just hope our parks department have got it right and not the Woodlands Trust otherwise there will be lot of poorly trees in north Wales!
  20. As others have said. Yes - your Oregon will work over there. Just switch it on. You don't need to do nothing more regarding the Orgeon. Whoo hooo! As for finding the geocaches - looking on Google Earth is probably is the easiest way. Play around a bit. Explore a little. Learn a lot.
  21. This is not an answer to your question... but I'd ask what are you so concerned about? My GSAK directory is 178MB. Even if I had one of the little little laptops, like the Asus Eee which comes with a very modest 8GB of storage, it leaves plenty of room to use Windows XP, browse internet and generally do non very taxing stuff.. In your e-mail, you allude that maybe you're not the most techy nerdy head around so maybe you're making this more complicated than what it needs to be?
  22. Yep... nice and woolly... (Some of MrsB's friends) I must be quoting some Blackadder series somewhere when I say More woolly than a very woolly sheep wearing a very woolly jumper inside a very woolly wool shop. I catch ya drift.
  23. I don't think its a problem for the forum - we've got night caches up round these parts and they remain undamaged. It just sounds like you've got to get your best diplomatic head on and pacify what ever the other person's concerns are. If the person has concerns about damage to a live tree perhaps moving them to a thick barked tree may help you. I'll settle back down now and get on with the crossword in the Grudian.... (typo on purpose...)
