  1. Thank you. I did back-up and then remove the pre-loaded and it helps a lot. Also fixed the zoom. Bingo! Thanks to all for the suggestions. I have the 64s as well. If you are not interested in the pre-loaded geocaches, you can delete the entire GGZ folder on the 64s. Or you could move it to a folder on your computer. BaseCamp does not read the GGZ files on the device, so there is limited usefulness to the preloaded files, in my opinion. In my case, I actually downloaded the entire GGZ database into GSAK and looked at it. I bought my 64s in April but the GGZ files had been compiled in November or December. That's a pretty old PQ, and quite a few caches had already been disabled or archived. I guess it does make it nice that you can take it out of the box, put in batteries and have caches available without doing anything else. The only way to add GGZ files is by using GSAK, not BaseCamp. Anyway, after playing with it for a couple weeks, I nuked the GGZ files and haven't use GGZ again. As for the caches on the map, the previous poster is correct. In the map settings, you will find a low zoom value for geocaches. Change that back to Auto, and you'll be set. While you're at it, you might want to go to Settings/Geocaches/Filter and set your filter to Display All in the Found/Unfound field. The factory setting is to only show unfound caches. You might want found caches to still show on the map and in the listings. Or not. Your choice.
  2. My new Garmin 64s came in a few days ago, and after a few days of playing with it I like it better than my eTrex 20. It's a little more accurate (not much, but some), esp in the woods. The screen is bigger, but not by much. Buttons take some getting used to. However, there are some differences that I need help with (Garmin support is useless)... 1) On the eTrex all of my .gpx files are in the GPX folder. The 64s comes preloaded with 24K of GCs, but there weren't any files in the GPX folder, nor did they show up in BaseCamp. When I copied a new GC via BaseCamp that single GC would show up in BaseCamp, but still nothing in the GPX folder. However, when I pushed a GC from gc.com via the Communicator Plugin a .gpx file did show up in the GPX folder along with appearing in BaseCamp. I'm figuring that all of the pre-loaded GCs are in some kind of database SQL instead of being individual files. All of the pre-loaded GCs might be nice for someone starting out, but it makes it really hard to sort through for just the ones I want. Is there any way to clear out the pre-loaded ones? And if so, any way to back them up first? 2) On the eTrex when I view the map the GCs that I loaded show up even when the map is zoomed out quite a bit. One the 64s I have to zoom in quite a bit before they start showing up, more zoomed in than I would like for general purposes (.2 mile resolution). Is there any way to change at what zoom level GCs start to show up? Thanks!
  3. Thank you. I am glad that it does not, as that would cause a lot of problems with double logging.
  4. For caches that I mark found on my Garmin it shows up on BaseCamp as being found. Does BaseCamp then update cg.com? If I then upload my founds to cg.com through field notes will there then be duplicates? I've had issues with duplicates before, but that was when I updated through cg.com and the app on my phone...
  5. And if someone would like to tell me how to delete the 2015 log I would be happy to do so as it was a duplicate and it seems to be causing so much panty twisting. A double-log on ONE earthcache, for the record.
  6. I have not been around all that time and have just renewed. I have not really done anything in all that time. That one earth cache was the only thing that I ever looked for back then and found. It was double marked because I marked it found on my GPS and did not know that Garmin BaseCamp would mark it found in addition to me marking it as found on geocaching.com (actually through c:geo app I believe). It was also a duplicate cache from both geocaching.com AND opencache, so it was on my GPS twice as it was downloaded from both sites with different cache numbers. I updated when I became active again. A double-log on ONE earthcache, for the record.
  7. Well F to you too! I had EVERY intention of signing a log, not that it's any of your business. You could always choose the option of not logging finds online either. Then it doesn't really matter if you sign a log or not. It's a very liberating feeling. If you're going to like geocachng or not should have nothing to do with this forum. Well, I'd say it was a troll (first post ever, joined the day before the post) but it would be pretty hard to fake the premium member designation, which means he plonked down at least 10 bucks for a 3 month membership. Probably had no intention of ever signing any logs, searched for it in the forums, and didn't like what he saw. Perhaps it's a privacy thing for him. In which case I'd say don't log these things online, period. Tough call, I mean the guy has no Geocaching experience, and was probably put off by it on the surface. But those of us who have been doing it for years know that opening these things up and signing the log is pretty much a no-brainer, and people have been known to cheat. All just speculation of course, until we hear from him again.
  8. That is disappointing. It's aggravating to be standing still with clear sky and plenty of satellites and still see your point wandering around like a drunken sailor. If you are changing because you think the antenna will make a difference, I doubt you will see any difference.
  9. OK, I have an eTrex 20 and am getting ready to upgrade, probably to a 64s for the better antenna... However, I am looking on the Garmin site and trying to compare. All of the Oregon, Montana and Dakota all look the same to me and the comparisons really don't highlight the differences. What are the basic differences between these higher cost models lines?
  10. Garmin BaseCamp will give a very quick and easy visual way to do it.
  11. I did see that, and that's fine - just needed a way No, it doesn't. (As far as I know! ) Field Notes aren't loaded automatically, you have to enter/edit your log, then 'Press' to send the log to Groundspeak.
  12. Thank you, that is what I was looking for. BTW, do you know if Garmin BaseCamp communicates back to geocaching.com? I don't think it does, but I wouldn't want duplication of logs as BaseCamp also picks up on the attempts.
  13. OK, so I have an Garmin eTrex 20 (wish I had bought the 30 with the compass). I download geocaches to it from geocaching.com. I go find (or attempt to find) a cache in the field. Log the attempt or the find on the eTrex. Now, how do I get that logging from the eTrex back to geocaching.com so that it shows up in my profile? Do you have to connect it with Garmin BaseCamp? Is there another way it has to be done?
  14. Wow. I just joined this site, and was going to start going out and finding but after reading how off the wall some of these over-the-top serious replies were I don't think I'm that interested anymore. If I want to find a cache and not sign the log then that's my business...
