1. I had a nephew that was in a wheelchair, so I am sensitive to (when possible) making a cache handicap/wheelchair accessible. One of them is a (Sprinklerhead) cache that is along the curb so even in a wheel chair, is easy to get to. It is within arms reach. You just have to pull it out of the pvc pipe it is placed it.. I've done a few others similar to this. So as long as a person in a wheel chair can reach it and without going into rough terrain, and within arms reach, I consider it accessible.
2. I will just post after I log my find that the cords are off and I'll use my GPS and list proper cords for the next cacher. From what I know, you are supposed to list as close as possible.. Its your ability to hide that makes the chalange. I often use my gps and check the cords a couple of times to make sure they are accurate. But I'm sort of a newbe myself.
3. Don't be so shy with the DNFs. Agreed. A DNF should not be reserved for just those instances when you are pretty sure the cache is missing. A proper DNF is a wonderful thing, and should be submitted with pride, every single time you hunt for a cache and do not locate it. It represents your interaction with the cache, locking in a moment of that cache's history. It also serves to let future seekers know that a particular cache may not be a piece of cake, and if there are a few of them, they could serve as an enticement to get the owner out there checking on it. DNFs, when properly applied, are a win-win. Thanks for the comments. I never really thought about it that way. I was always worried too many DNFS would be bad for a cache hider, or that I wasn't doing a good enough job on my finding skills but it Does let the Cache hider know more of whats going on. I know of the caches I hide, if I see a couple DNF's I will go and check on it to be sure its still good
4. Yes. That was the idea. A nice little card to had to any LEOS or muggles who were wondering why you are wandering :)I had one muggle that i ended up talking to for quite a while. He was really interested after i explained to him whta it was all about. So I think a created a convert Somehow, I don't think that would make it very far in the legal system. Yeah. What would be more fun is if some off duty police officer geocaching gets jumped on by this guy, shows his badge, and say he's investigating a report of a suspicious object, and if that guy knows anything about it. Turn-around is always sweet but almost never happens. Still, one can dream. Since I assume all of us who Geocache have computers. I think it would be a neat idea to get a sheet of printable business cards and print out a description of Geocaching.. What it is.. And while talking to the curious muggles, and even LEO's. Hand them your Geocard My Mom works at a print shop, so for a Christmas gift she made up geocards for me with my butterfly emblem on them. They are great to hand out when the curious gome to chat. Are you thinking of something a bit like this? Available from: Groundspeak's shop. MrsB
5. The first time i look for a cache and don't find it, I mark it off to inexperience.. so I mark it as a DNF in my GPS but not on the page, and will go back to it another time and try to find it again. A couple of times i have found it that way. Don't be so shy with the DNFs. Agreed. A DNF should not be reserved for just those instances when you are pretty sure the cache is missing. 6. And why would I be called a geocop? I got premission from the hider to replace the geocache. It was HIS idea to replace it! But you will be called a CacheCop, a busybody and lot's of other un-sharable epithets. Do it anyway, someday someone will thank you.
7. On my original message. I DID contact the CO, and talked to him. He got back to me and said he would be happy to have me replace his Cache. But you will be called a CacheCop, a busybody and lot's of other un-sharable epithets. Do it anyway, someday someone will thank you.
8. THank you for all the response since my original post. I did do the DNF. and I Never post a DNF unless I am almost positive that the cache has gone missing. I had several people say that it was missing. A a couple from people who had found it in the past. And yes, I did contact the person who hid the cache, (I made it a point not to mention his name) but have not received a reply as yet. I have only found 32 caches so far... I started on November 22nd. and I have hid too. Not a lot, but I fell I'm getting the hang of it. Still a newbe and still getting the feel for it. I have never thought of myself as a spammer or troll. You can call me a lot of things, but thats not one of them But am always grateful for any friendly advice. Thanks again for the hints and responses. Ed. +1 Apologies....I didn't notice the date. Didn't realize it was a resurrected thread. But the part you quoted and agreed one is just as relevant today as the day it was originally posted. CO's often take offense to any criticism, but your fellow seekers need to know if there are issues with the cache.
9. Opps. Sorry again. i don't even know If I was replying to the rigt person. I'll get it all figrued out. I only started in novembere. This is only the second or thrid time I've even tried these boards. Sorry again if I'n not using them properly.
10. Quit Taling like a spammer? I'm sorry I didn't realise I was. I thought I was just adding to the conversation. I didn't realize I was being a spammer. Just asking advice. I'm new here. I love geocaching I wanted to help out a fellow geocacher and not get him in trouble by reporting him. Thats why I asked if it was better to just replace the cache. ALl the geocachers I have met so far are great people. This is the first time I've felt I've had to go into defense mode. I'm soory if I offended you. . Sorry DFX. I'll stick with Geocache from now on. I din't realize this was such a click.
11. I was looking for a Cache the other day (One that has a very special meaning to my Wife and I) I just couldn't find it. I found out from a couple of "GeoFriends" that this Cache has been gone for at least a couple of months. I marked it as Did Not Find a while later the Cache Owner just deleted my DNF report from the listing. I since found from a coupe of friends that he has in the past, deleted other posters DNF's as well. It is a shame, because this person always does some amazing research about the location of the hide, so I know he puts a lot of effort into his hides. I wrote a very friendly message to the CO to tell him, I would be glad to replace it. He doesn't seem interested in repairing/replacing them.I'm still waiting for a replay. I really don't mind doing a repair. It kind of depends on how he replies. If he refuses, I will go ahead and replace it anyway. If he is upset about this or refuses to maintain... and keeps deleting all the DNFs. What should I do. Move on, and quit talking like a spammer.

13. I have hid only one so far. But I made sure I had permission from the home owner. And posted that fact. So if you go to find that one, you know that THEY know. So no problem. I think most LEO's, after you explain are understanding If they don't already know about geocaching.. A lot of them do. I haven't been questioned by anyone.. but as long as you explain the concept, I think they understand. With 911 people have become a bit over cautious. I've been approached a few times in remote areas. Once in the mountains too. But those were Border Patrol officers. I've been questioned by quite the variety of LEO. The Border Patrol consistently knew about geocaching whereas the police, in general, didn't.

15. I'm still a lurker. I've left a couple of messages. But mostly I have been coming her to get hings and to understand how to hid and find Caches.
16. This pretty much tells you what you need to do if you get a rejected placement. After I hid a Cache. I got this message: I see that another geocache "XXXXXXXXXXXXX" is 460 feet from where this new geocache is placed. I'm sorry to have to inform you that the geocaching.com guidelines state that the minimum separation for geocaches and physical stages of geocaches is .1 miles (528 feet). You will find the applicable section of the Placement Guidelines under item 6 here: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=304#saturation. If you can move your geocache to a new location and update the coordinates by editing your cache page, please let me know when you have done so and I would be happy to give it another review to see about publishing it. If you are reading this as a [LOG] notification email, you will not be able to send me a reply by just hitting the reply button on your email application. Also, be aware that I am not notified when you make changes to your geocache page or when you post logs to your geocache page. Please always contact me through the email address link on my profile page or email me directly at highcountryadmin@gmail.com if you have any questions or if you have made changes to your geocache page and would like me to take another look at it. Lastly, to prevent delays, please make sure you provide the GC Code (GCXXXXX) for your geocache, found in the top right corner of your geocache page, or your geocache web site address (URL) so that I can look up your geocache listing. Also not that the above may not have been the one to review your hide, so it may be different.
17. When I first started. I guess it took me a few tries to get used to my GPS. Because now when I do a search It seems like the GPS is more accurate in locating. Its just me getting the "feel" of it I'm sure. But over time, I've found it gets easier to home in on the Cache.
18. I'm a newbe to the extreme.. Just started a week ago. One log I came across was too wet to sign. The film container was ok, so I was figuring someone along the line didn't seal it properly or something. Anyway, don't know if this is proper or not, but I signed a piece of paper put scotch tape over it to "waterproof it, and put it in with the log.
