  1. Currently she Geocaches under mine and my wifes team name because she only geocaches with us. She LOVES it. We are excited about tomorrow because we have her and AJ (her little brother) and we are going to go for a record number of caches. Currently our record is 10 in one day. We want 11. LOL!
  2. Thank You for the replies and the link. I keep going round and round with myself because my grand daughter (10 yrs old) is not very happy with the Geomate Jr. I got her. She wants one with a map and an electronic compass like her grandpa (me) has got. She wants to be able to sit in the backseat with her own gps and be able to watch a map with the caches coming up so I do not try and miss any. hehehe... I was going to try and just upgrade myself to a better unit (the Oregon 550 or explorist 710) till I got a good gander at the prices. I think I have wisely decided that if I put us in hock over what grandma calls "toys" that grandma would remove grandpa from the face of this ole earth.
  3. Is there any difference between these two units besides the 20 is slightly smaller than the 450?
  4. I have an Oregon 450 and I have no problems with the screen. I cannot say that it improved from earlier modles because I have never seen an earlier model. BUT, even with my not so good eyes I have no problem and love it.
  5. Silly questions. How much for it without the leather case? Also if it the numbers can be washed off why do you not go ahead and wash them off? Did you buy it used, and the previous owner put those numbers on the unit in permanent marker to be able to identify it?
  6. What about the Magellan Explorist GC or the Explorist 310? Those are both paperless and the GC is strictly built for Geocaching and pretty basic.
  7. stflyer, Have you tried using the PQ software geomateQtGuiApp.exe that can be downloaded from the http://geomatejr.com/ site? Just look in the following sentence on that site and click on the word "here" and you will be able to download a small program that will allow you to update the Geomate Jr. with a gpx PQ file from GS. To help keep the adventures happening however, we have made some software available here that will allow anyone with an Update Kit and a PC to load a Pocket Query from Geocaching.com to a Geomate.jr. It works when the Geomate sight is not working. In fact I use that little gem instead of the geomate jr site.
  8. First I was battling just merging PQ's for my Oregon 450. With help from others on another thread and EasyGPS that is now licked. So then I got to thinking about my grand daughters Geomate Jr. Even when the mygeomatejr website is down you can still load PQ's with the software they give you a link to installed. The problem is a PQ can only hold 1,000 caches. PQ's will over write each other, so you have the 1,000 cache limit on the Jr. I tried using the software for the Jr. to update it with the merged PQ file I had made using EasyGPS with around 3,670 caches on it. If you will try it you will see an error stating "file is not a gpx 1.0 file". Then it wipes your Jr's database. LOL! Ok, so I went into my GS settings and changed my gpx from 1.01 to 1.0. Reran the PQ's (yesterday and today) and merged the new ones. The result was the same error. Mmmm.... what the heck is the difference? So that lead me to open a single PQ gpx file that I had downloaded and left untouched from the GS site. I used Notepad++ to do this. I also opened up the combinedgpx file that I had made with EasyGPS. I saw the difference. It was in the top sections of the file. So out of curiosity I copied the header of the GS gpx file and pasted it over the combinedgpx file and renamed the title to what I wanted then I saved it. Worked like a charm. So now doing that little trick my grand daughters Geomate Jr. can now reflect the exact same caches as my 450. Since I always run PQ's to just the caches I have not found that is handy. If you use the mygeomatejr site and just do a region load that would load all caches, even the ones we have found.
  9. I load the file into the sd card in the Garmin/GPX folder. It is a no go every time. But if I open the GSAK created file in basecamp and export it from basecamp into a folder on my PC, then copy from the PC folder onto the sd card Garmin/GPX folder it works flawlessly. Weird. LOL!
  10. Thank You. Basing an idea on what you described I figured it out. First I created a new folder then in that folder I created a new file and named it combinedpqs Then one by one I copied and pasted the gpx and wpts-gpx files into the new folder and chose the combinedpqs file Doing it that way it did merge all the files into one gpx file eliminating the duplicate caches. It was a little time consuming but yes it is possible. Thank You. Gotta hand it to GSAK, GSAK is much easier and faster doing combining. But still have to load the combined PQ's into Basecamp for some reason for the Oregon 450 to see the result. So even though GSAK is easier and faster for me atleast it still does not warrent buying it for that one feature. Thank You again.
  11. I have not found how Basecamp will do this. But maybe I am clueless as to how it is done if it is possible.
  12. Is there a free software program out there that can merge multiple PQ's and eliminate the duplicate caches? I know about GSAK but I do not need all the bells and whistles. The above is the only thing I will be doing. So I can not justify paying for it for this one feature. Plus the fact that I did do a merge when under the trial period and loaded it onto the 450 and it could not see that gpx file. I had to delete it, then run it through Basecamp, then load it onto the 450 for it to be seen. I have an Oregon 450 and I know that it can load multiple PQ's and does only show a single incident of a duplicate cache. But with a 5,000 cache limit even though it does not show the dupes, the dupes would still be on the unit and probably count against the 5,000 limit.
  13. Is this still for sell? If so I sent you a message a few days ago.
  14. Cancel that. Looks like they have come back to life for me. Thank You.
  15. Add me also. My PQ's are not running, just sitting there teasing me.
  16. That is very nice of you to assume people have money falling out their behinds. A hike like that would force me from out of the PM status. Think about this, all it would take is a mass exodus from this site to that "other site" for the other one to become the go-to site for geocaching instead of this one. The "other site" would have a load of CO's adding their caches to boost the numbers. $30.00 a YEAR is acceptable plus a TB every now and then. Raise the price and I and I imagine many others would go buh bye. I can live with out the google maps*, after all they said they are working on their own server for tiles. That will help out a lot when done. *pssttt... gm script edited to correct month to year. to much cold meds. lolololol
  17. The wife and I have a 2007 Prius. We love it. But the one thing that we do not like is the Nav system. Not user friendly at all. Way to many steps to program it. So for Navigation when going on a trip we use the TomTom One.
  18. If muggles abound I will act like I am talking and texting or waiting for someone. I have never seen a security camera in the areas I have been to. But I know that they would not make me nervous, who knows, I may break out into a song and dance to entertain the camera watchers.
  19. TAR will be in my thoughts. Hope you have a clean surgery followed by a clean bill of health.
  20. I have the 450 and Love It! It is easy to use and the profiles that you can set up is great. Love the 3 axis electronic compass. That is my main go to when close to the cache. I use the maps with auto routing (i am the passenger) to get to the cache area then switch to the geocaching profile. It is a very versatile GPS. I love the Oregon so much that I am slowly saving for a used Oregon 550 to add a camera function to it so that is one less thing that I have to take around with me. Then the 450 will become my wifes.
  21. Ahhh... okay. Now that would be an advantage to using GSAK. I downloaded and tried GSAK when I first got my gps unit and could find no advantage (for what i do) over using PQ's off of the GC site so I did not use it anymore.
  22. Thank You ChefRd2000, that answered my other question. Also Thank You for the links.
  23. Thank You for the reply. Not much, as she is only here once a month. Currently I have a bid in on one with the update kit at ebay for 36.00. I hope I get lucky with that one but I doubt it. But if you load a PQ (1,000 max caches) does that mean that it will only do 1,000 at a time now? Or can you load multiple PQ's to it with out them over writing each other?
