  1. Silly question but have you tried zooming out on the map? If it is zoomed in real close it may only show one cache at a time. Then when ever you choose go to next closest at a real close zoom level you will only see one more again. Oh, how you zoom out is when on the map you will see a + and a -. Tap the - several times and see what happens.
  2. The preview had me chuckling real well. Hour count kept going up. lololololol
  3. As far as the US, it is divided into I think 3 different segments. You cannot load the entire US onto the Jr. You have to choose one of the segments. You are correct that if you load a segment that it will overwrite the previous file. I do not know about other countries if it can do the whole country or not. As far as the PQ's go, PQ's are limited to 1,000 caches and you can only load 1 PQ, because if you try to upload a second PQ it again will do the overwriting thing. So that really hampers what the Jr. is supposed to do. BUT! I have loaded close to 4,000 caches onto my grand daughters Jr. I did this by using Garmins Basecamp software to merge multiple PQ's and exporting them to a single file on my PC. The I use notepad to open the file and I edit it. You have to do that step because the Jr. will only accept a gpx file in groundspeaks (this site) layout. I did figure out that all you have to replace is the header part of the exported merged gpx file. Using notepad open one of the unzipped PQ's gpx files that you downloaded from this site and do the below. Keep in mind that below is just an example. You will have to do it from your own gpx files to get the proper information. ________________________________ start example ______________________ <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <gpx xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" version="1.0" creator="Groundspeak Pocket Query" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0 http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0/gpx.xsd http://www.Groundspeak.com/cache/1/0 http://www.Groundspeak.com/cache/1/0/cache.xsd" xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0"> <name>combinedpqstest</name> <desc>Geocache file generated by Groundspeak</desc> <author>Groundspeak</author> <email>contact@Groundspeak.com</email> <time>2012-03-08T20:56:55.593511Z</time> <keywords>cache, geocache, Groundspeak</keywords> copy the above replacing everything above the first waypoint line example <wpt lat="35.60245000" lon="-84.46115000"> BELOW is what I replaced with the top <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <gpx xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1"'>http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1" version="1.1" creator="EasyGPS 4.45" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1 http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1/gpx.xsd http://www.topografix.com/GPX/gpx_overlay/0/3 http://www.topografix.com/GPX/gpx_overlay/0/3/gpx_overlay.xsd http://www.topografix.com/GPX/gpx_modified/0/1 http://www.topografix.com/GPX/gpx_modified/0/1/gpx_modified.xsd http://www.geobuddy.com/cache/1/1 http://www.geobuddy.com/cache/1/1/cache.xsd http://www.geobuddy.com/GPX/0/1 http://www.geobuddy.com/GPX/0/1/geobuddy.xsd"> <metadata> <bounds minlat="35.11815000" minlon="-85.03603300" maxlat="36.16960000" maxlon="-83.63588300"/> <extensions> <time xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/gpx_modified/0/1">2012-03-08T21:08:38.046Z</time> </extensions> </metadata> _____________________ end example _______________________ After the above is done you can use the Geomate Jr. software of geomateJrPQupdater.exe to load the new merged gpx file onto the Jr. But this of course is only possible if you are a PM to be able to get PQ's.
  4. Nope, not here. Just automotive ones. I asked them awhile back why they do not carry handhelds and they told me they can only sell what they are shipped and corporate did not think there was a market in our area for the handhelds.
  5. My wallyworld here does not carry hand helds either. Just automotive ones.
  6. For me it is despicable and poor morale business to keep selling the Jr knowing that at any moment it can be a paper weight. The sellers should at the least put a note on their selling pages as to what is going on with it. Currently with a PM and a full PQ I can use the software and load it. But it is a far cry from what it is supposed to do and cannot when the site is having problems. To get the most out of geocaching I think a Premium Membership to this site is a must. It just opens up a whole new world of geocaching when coupled with a GPS capable of paperless caching. Sadly there is no unit that I know of where you can download a whole country of caches to one with the exception of the Jr when it is working.
  7. For me the site is iffy. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does the things that you have described. It is very annoying. Luckily though I am a PM and can do the Pocket Queries. When I do the Pocket Queries I do not use the site, but the software they came up with. I think the site has a very low bandwidth limit set now that they have different owners or they keep having database problems or we may try to get new info at the same time they are updating thier database. Not for sure what it is, but it sure has been flaky. In my humble opinion a geomate jr. with out a Premium Membership and the software for PQ's will eventually be worthless and one will need a PM or a better GPS.
  8. hehehe Found myself on page 174 of the 38,805 pages. Most people on the pages in front of me have got a few years on me. Most people ahead of me are also either PM's or CM's. Most people in front have Avatars. Some of the Avatars are funny and some of the names are downright odd. LOL!
  9. See post #17. It is on ebay now and the link to it is in that post.
  10. @ 1,000 caches per full PQ would equal an astounding 5,000 GPX files. But then that could be lower if the wpts files are also being loaded and has a ton of child waypoints? I don't know. Possibly they are loading files of the same name? But then it should be just over writing the previous files. I have no idea, I do not have a GC. But am watching this topic because in the future I may get one.
  11. That is really odd. It does look like the Oregon 550 outshines the Montana. Really weird that the Oregons pics look sharper and more detailed.
  12. Walts Hunting, The reasoning behind two units is because TeamPennyFinder is a team. My grand daughter is part of the team and she would like to do more than look once we arrive at GZ. She is bonkers for geocaching and wants to use a GPS like my current one (the 450) with the map and the whole nine yards. I am looking at the Oregon 550 because it also has a camera function, that would let me not have to carry a camera when we go and is also one less thing to plug into the PC to get pictures off of. That would be easiest for me. Then she would be able to use the 450 when we have her. BUT, it may turn out to be a pipe dream as the 550 is so very expensive. I may have to just back off and settle for a Magellon GC (for her to use) or something like that. But she wants the electronic compass. She is mature for her age but still does not grasp that grandpa and grandma does not have a money tree growing in the back yard. **sigh**
  13. That makes sense. Thank You.
  14. I guess the steps involved in how to re-release a TB. At least that is my question because a few months ago I released my very first TB and the entire cache that I put it in was stolen. Container and all. So ZERO miles was achieved on mine. **sigh** I have marked it as missing. So I have gotten a few "copy" tags from Gotags, and have an exact duplicate of the TB ready to go. Now what? I went to my trackables page http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=3845661 and the only options in the drop down menu are to Move to Last Location Recaculate Distance Sorry, but no way do I want to tempt fate and put it back into the same cache that it was stolen from before. I also want to keep the same page as the mission would be unchanged.
  15. One thing is for sure. The public voting that is at the end of that brief does give a loud and clear message. They think it is asinine to consider the banning of onboard Navigation systems in vehicles. For my own perspective I agree. Although the TomTom One was lousy for geocaching it was great when ever my wife and I recently went to visit our son that was getting married. Yes, I did have paper maps (and know how to read them) with us, and used that as a basis to plan our route. But the TomTom One was very helpful enroute and the voice cues were great. Newer models IMHO are ever better and once again IMHO can make driving even safer. I mean good grief from what I have read they can even tell you about what lane you need to be in when there is an upcoming change of direction and can even tell you traffic conditions and reroute you to a clearer road. To me that makes driving safer when you are going on a route that you are not familiar with. The Interstates around biog cities can be very confusing.
  16. Well, I guess if I ever am able to scrape the money up for an Oregon 550 what I will just do is put the same PQ's on it as I do the 450. I was just curious in case I met any other geocachers out in the "wild".
  17. Thanks for the answer. Not the one I was hoping for. LOL!
  18. I see that the Oregon 450 says it shares wirelessly with other Oregon and Colorado units. My question is can it send to another unit the entire gpx file (like for combined caches of about 3,000 caches) at once? Or do you have to send the info singly cache by cache? Thank You
  19. Chrysalides, I really wish that Grandma would fall for the "what this ole thing" ploy, but like yours, I do not see that happening. Everyone thank you for the advice and warnings. I will continue to ponder on my situation and continue to drool. LOL! We did go yesterday and had a blast. Ary did hand the Geomate Jr. from around her neck but did not use it all day. So I am trying to figure out if that was some kind of silent peaceful protest. hehehehe... But everyone had fun and it was an excellent day even though we did not break our record of 10 finds. We were shooting for 11 but came up a little short.
  20. hehehe that happens. People get so used to touch screens on smart phones and other things that they will treat everything like a touch.
  21. I think the only difference is the 450T comes preloaded with Topo maps.
