Lost Vista, looking for a cheap or free GPS

I think we should create a Event Cache out of this..... If only he would give us a hint of the location. -

Think of it as a geocache. If i find it, i'll leave something (soggy key chain, deck of cards, etc....) -

Why don't you tell me where you lost it and I'll go look.... -
lots of GPS's for sale
RussellM replied to friendly four from felton's topic in GPS technology and devices
I'm guessing that they are the basic black and white models. If they were any higher units, I would think that he would have placed in the cx, or Hcx, etc... -
Hey, it can't hurt to dream.....

I found the perfect location, gathered the perfect swag, and then placed the cache. Two hours later (pretty fast turnaround) the reviewer told me it was too close to another cache. Apparently a multicache was close by...

Alright, I'm trying this again. I'm downloading 6.2 again and removing all geocaching software so that i can start fresh. I'll be interested to see if this works...

It's hard to pin posts like this on anyone, but there sure have been a lot of "younger kids" on the forums. While I would not want to discourage or accuse anyone, i do find it odd that there is a sudden increase in interested teens getting into geocaching..... Again, it's hard and unfair to accuse anyone specific of lying, so I won't

I'm starting to think that the problem is me. I guess i'll give this another shot. Thanks for the help guys Russell

Hey, I didn't mean to come across as mean, just suprised that someone would ask for a free gps. Now, I realize that it is a kid, I wish him the best of luck in finding a GPS. I got started when i was 13 too. I do, however, wonder if it is the best idea to post your whole phone number online....

You could probably score a etrex off ebay for about $40 + shipping. I used a simple etrex to find my first (and so far only, friggin winter) 62 geocaches. Good luck

Just a few problems with that post. 1. No area code 2. Why would someone give away their gps when there is pratically a waiting list on the geocaching forums?

$400 is tempting, but i think i'll wait. As i live in NY, the california maps wouldn't do me a whole lot of good. Thanks anyway

How about letting the rest of us in on the secret....

I've been trying to go paperless for some time now. The only problem is that every time i try, the PDA isn't compatible with Microsoft Vista. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with Vista when it comes to PDAs. Thanks Russell

A Geo Mouse? I don't think there is a such thing. Could you possibly mean a TB on some form of swag? Also, there are places that sell tracking numbers that can be put on anything... I would think there would be a web address on the item though. You don't by chance have a photo?

english for caches in another country
RussellM replied to artvandelay's topic in General geocaching topics
Living near quebec, I had the same problem. I used freetranslations.com to get a rough idea of what was being said. It is by no means perfect, but it's good enough. -
Longest hike for one cache?

14 miles round trip for an awsome cache in the Adirondacks -
I am having a hell of a time trying to add any programs to my palm (z22). I can't decide if it's me or vista. All of my programs don't come up as being able to be downloaded. I am pretty good with windows, but i can't seem to put the programs onto the palm. I'm just happy that my laptop actually recognizes the z22, but that won't be enough for long. Thanks Russell

I'm suprised that you were not happy with the accuracy of the Etrex H (considering that that is the more accurate model). There is no gps in the world (with the exception of surveying GPS) that will walk you right up to the cache. Second, if you have 300 to spend, go all the way and buy a new gps. with 300, you could easily buy a Garmin 60csx used, and thats about the best you can do, unless you want to drop 450 for a Garmin Colorado (the newest gps) Good luck Russell M
