  1. The 12 volt power cable is the same for the VistaC and the GPSMap 60csx. Just thought you might want to save yourself some time and keep that piece.

I bought an Etrex Vista C then realized the new line was being introduced in a couple of weeks. I returned the unit but blanked on the Accessories. I am going with the 60Csx so will not be able to use them now. I have a 12V power cable for the car, a nylon and rubber case with belt clip and a dashboard holder. All three together add up to about $55.00. Make me a reasonable offer and you'll save them from sitting on my office shelf for the next 5 years. All three together, I don't feel like packing three seperate boxes. I'm thinging I am not as lazy as this sounds. Thanks, Ed

  3. A friend of mine used one of those for about 1 day and then gave up. It's too hard to use the compass and you always have to do something to hold the "puck." I'd spend the $80 on a cheap eTrex and use the iPaq for paperless caching.

Take a look at GPSPassion - They review many different models.

Many Bluetooth GPS models are using a new chip-set from SiRF (SiRF Star III). This chip-set seems to work very well and the sensitivity is very good. I believe the HP Bluetooth GPS is using an _older_ GPS chipset (SiRF Star II).

Garmin also has a Bluetooth GPS, GPS-10. This works well with the iPAQ. Whichever GPS you choose, I would make sure that it outputs NMEA data so you have a choice of other third party applications to use.

Also you may want to download some Geocaching software as well. Here is a selection of a few:

If it were me, I would try to find a Bluetooth with the SiRF Star III chipset or use the Garmin GPS 10.

    Have fun!

  4. I love the Google Earth interface. Allows for easy route planning!

However, one thing that would make it even better is to make a small change to the icons. It currently shows the types of caches (traditional, multi, etc) which is great, but it's missing the "status" of the cache. Maybe an update to the icons to include a red X through it if the cache is temporally disabled or something like that. I think it would help a ton in route planning.

    Thanks for listening.
