  1. I think it's a great idea, and a great way to meet dates or friends with similar hobbies. Our local group sometimes has barbecues or get-togethers, but never a "singles" activity.
  2. quote:This weekend an ammo box... risked being charged with a crime. You mean there is actually a law somewhere that says "Don't put things in ammo boxes and hide them in the woods?" I think if I were a terrorist, I wouldn't put a bomb in an ammo box, anyway. I would put it in a Hot Wings or McRib box. Right after the bombing incident at the Atlanta Olympics, we were on heightened security where I work, and we were told to report any suspicious or abandoned packages. So one day, a fellow worker notices an abandoned package, and being an exemplary gov't employee, notifies security, who in turn advises regional headquarters, etc. After much ado, it was discovered that someone left his tuna fish sandwich in a sack on top of the coke machine.
  3. You didn't say what town the restaurant was in, but if you were wearing a goofy hat in Memphis, everyone just figured you were part of the COGIC convention.
  4. What are we deleting? And why hasn't Pater47 responded to this thread?
  5. I suggest searching for caches by state and looking at the page where they are shown on the map, then compare that with a state map showing the NTP. You can zoom in on the state map, and it will be pretty clear which ones are near the NTP.
  6. There are all sorts of memory joggers. One is "Leaves of three; let it be." The problem is other plants also have 3 leaves; and poison ivy can have 5 or 7 leaves. Another talks about red stems -- but other plants have red stems, etc. How to really identify poison ivy: The center leaf is basically symmetrical (like a leaf on any tree or plant). The outer leaves are clearly and obviously NOT; some people say they are shaped like a child's mitten. However, the leaves on each side of the stem, are mirror images of each other. Imagine laying an oval leaf on the table, then put the child's right mitten on the left side of the leaf and vice versa.
  7. I bought a GPS to use when camping, boating and hiking. Not that I ever hike anywhere that I really need one; it was more the fact that I like little technical gadgets more than I like jewelry or fancy shoes. A guy at work asked if he could borrow my GPS and I said "Sure, but what for?" He told me he had found out about Geocaching on the internet, and was considering using it as part of his home-school program, but wanted to try it first before investing the money in a GPS. Once he told me, I was hooked. I work in a predominately male environment (air traffic control) and have introduced several males to the sport. Of the females that I mentioned it to, the only ones who showed any interest were those who are employed in traditionally male jobs (a Marine and a couple of airline pilots). I am curious if this is true of other women who Geocache. I was looking at other forums: Yes, I Geocache armed. But I also go to the grocery store and the mall that way. As for the hair thing --- most of the time it is light ash brown, but I did the blonde and the red thing 20 or more years ago.
