  1. I may have run across something new. We went on a road trip from St. louis to San Francisco and back through Arizona, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. At one point the entire unit shut down and would not reboot. Thankfully that was the same day the 2.6 update was released. Anyway, after the update I added the Hunt and Fish to the shortcuts, and ever since then it seems when I run a route and it goes to recalculate the Colorado screen goes to the hunt/fish screen. At one time it went to another screen, but I don't remember which one. Can anyone reproduce this? Oh, I forgot to mention that the switch to a new screen happens when viewing the active route screen not the map screen.
  2. I went yesterday for three caches before coming home, and disconnected the 12v power source at least twice while still in routing mode. It did shut down on me once, but maybe I accidentally hit turn off when disconnecting it - I did do that once before. I'll have to pay more attention in the future. I had the same problem and it started the day before the update was released! While on our cross country trip it seemed that it would shut down when recalculating a route, and at times it would just turn off. I had to do a reset to get started, and it didn't work until the third try. After I ran the update I too noticed that it shut off on its own, and I too thought that maybe I had done something.......perhaps not. Time will tell.
  3. Yes, It will prompt you for a state, address numbers, and then the street name. From there you get turn by turn directions. I have been using this on my trip this week, and minus a bug that should now be fixed, the Colorado had worked flawlessly!! It has even helped us find a few places to eat in the middle on almost no where
  4. Wow! Just in time! I am in the middle of a road trip out to Californis from Missouri and my Colorado just started shutting down when I perform Wheret to--Recent Find--go. The only thing that would get it started is a hard reset. Hopefully this takes care of it!! Seems to............so far.
  5. I had this problem a couple of months ago and got it fixed immediately. I can't believe they are still sending out the wrong size......
  6. I noticed today that when I have my Colorado 300 powered via the car, that the power display says the word battery and has a picture of a cord like it should. Has the word battery always been there? Or is this some new error in 2,54?
  7. I find my 400t will crash if I plug the USB in and let it boot. To connect to my PC now all I have to do is boot the GPS normally wait a few seconds and then plug in the USB. Note - this is even when I am well indoors with no chance of GPS lock. Has anyone tried this with no sat lock, but turning off the sat search ( assuming that it can be turned off before the "cannot find satellite, continue yes or no" or whatever the message is )? Uh oh! I have tried this with the following : 1 - GPS "turned off", not searching for satellites ( via "Use with GPS off" in satellite screen ) 2 - GPSr looking for satellites 3 - GPSr plugged into PC, turned off, turn on 4 - GPSr with signal lock In all four cases, my 400t will not go into mass storage mode ... I think that I may be gaficked! This the first serious issue since I bought my 400t, which was when back in Jan/Feb, when they came out at REI? edit : I have also tried spanner mode -> mass storage mode with "use with GPS off", as above Ok I tested mine out and with my unit off I plugged in my cable and it lit up and connected with the computer and stayed on. I have a 300. Same here
  8. I have never seen my Colorado ask me what mode I want to be in?? How do you do that? Running 2.54
  9. My first IS for the Colorado did not fit properly as it was a bit short. I contacted them and they sent me a new one that fit perfectly, and they even sent me a SASE to send the wrong shield back in. The same thing happened when I had to return my Colorado for a new one. It took them a few times but they got it right. I now have an IS that fits perfectly and no one would even notice it was there.
  10. I notice that when I am using City Navigator and I zoom in, the triangle is off the road quite a bit here and there. Is this the same issue, or could this be chalked up to bad mapping??
  11. The factory mount is a suction cup. I have both mounts and IMHO the RAM is of better quality and would be best for off roading. I would think you could just purchase the cord somewhere. Perhaps ebay?? Good luck!!
  12. I live near a river and Magellan's base map has me living on the wrong side of it! Garmin, however, actually has me on the correct side.
  13. I wanted a replacement screen for my 210 and....shocker....Magellan was no help. I e-mailed a guy on ebay that sells Magellan Explorists and he had some extra outer shells that he could sell at the time. You could contact him and just take the rubber part out and replace yours. It comes right out once the casing is open. The ebay user ID is justpartsu. Good luck!
  14. I also received the wrong shield for mine more than once. The first shield from IS were wrong, but for some reason the old shields remained in stock. They know this is a problem and will send you a new shield if you call them. They will just ask you to send the old shield back on a SASE they send you.
  15. It has been my experience that you must calibrate the compass often to keep it accurate. Have you done that since moving to 2.51?
  16. I use a Maha C9000 at home. I've had it for maybe 8 months and I think it's great. Before that I used the Maha MH-C401FS and I still use it for traveling. For all around use the C401FS has been my favorite charger (it beats the C9000 because I can easily take it with me). The C401FS is switchable to either slow (AA: 300mA, AAA: 200mA) or fast (1000mA). I always set it to slow unless I'm pressed for time. It's true that the faster you recharge a battery, the harder it is on the battery. I don't think Maha is doing anything wrong by offering fast charges. It's a trade off - do you want a fast charge or do you want the most capacity and life out of your battery? BTW, I really recommend a charger that charges individual batteries instead of pairs. No two batteries are the same, so charging them together will not get the most out of them. Well after reading these few posts and some others on another Colorado thread, I sprung for the Maha MH-C204W Black World Charger and some batteries. I suppose I did the right the thing...the charger seems to do a variety of things and seems like one I could use on all of my AA rechargeable batteries. I hope I get the same good results a few of you seem to have gotten .
  17. I believe you can download VantagePoint from Magellans website for free. You can also use Easy GPS...I think.

  19. Well, here I am about 12 hours later with one tiny red bar left. I was using the 2500 Energizer batteries that I have had for about a year and have been used often. Thanks for the all the tips. Perhaps I will run out and get a new charger. I currently use the one that came w/ my energizer batteries that charges in 15 minutes, but also continues to charge after the 15 min. if you leave them in. Also, I am not sure how to turn the compass off.....I just assumed if there was no arrow it was off, but the screen was active while I was walking around with it, so I am guessing it was on the whole time as well. Like I said, I think I was being paranoid now.
  20. Do you have the compass/WAAS turned off? Assuming you have the same settings as your previous unit and you are using the same batteries I would say return it. Most people seem to get 8-10hr on a 2500mAh batteries. GO$Rs Perhaps I spoke too soon....the batteries lasted about 8.5 hours. The compass was off most of the time and WASS was off all of the time, but I did use CN some driving around. Those two bars I mentioned earler were present for quite some time. I am running my little test again. I am at 1.5 hours and have only lost 1 bar. I am not sure how to measure the voltage or I would. And yes, I have been reading the many posts, but the Groundspeak search function leaves something to be desired. If most people are seeing 8-10 hours, then I suppose I am OK. I thought Eneloop was a good brand. They were only 2000 mah batteries. I might just be being paranoid because of all the aforementioned posts.....
  21. I put a fresh set of eneloops in and have had my 300 sitting for 2.5 hours and I am down to 2 bars. Last night I recharged some 2500 Energizers and went caching this morning, and after an hour my battery meter was at half. Do I have a faulty unit? This was first time I had this replacement unit on battery power for an extended time period. My last unit seemed to perform better....and yes I have the battery type set. Thanks!
  22. I was able to reproduce this on my 300 as well using the beta update.
  23. Well, I start my car a few times a day, and it seems that at least one of those times the Colorado hangs on start up. Unplugging does not do the trick; nor does holding the power button.....Anyone else???
