  1. Hello Mr. Seavert and Mr. Seavert's class,

I'm a teacher in Washington state who enjoys geocaching and keeping a cache near our school too. I have several students who are avid geocachers and we enjoy seeing our visitors searching for the cache.

My students have sent out travel bugs but now they are missing. How are your bugs doing so far?

My students would love to hear from your students if you are interested. My students are 7th and 8th graders at Discovery Lab School.

I have taught several classes at teacher conferences about using geocaching in teaching Social Studies.

Please contact me if you like. E-mail is best, as I am an infrequent user of the forums.

  2. I am a teacher in WA who has taught other teachers how to use geocaching at school. I have used class travel bugs but haven't had as much success as I would have liked. Tracking others' bugs has proven to be more useful. This is a terrific idea. Who do you anticipate will be the readers for your -zine? Please e-mail me directly as I don't check the forums frequently enough. Irene (Discocry)

  3. I'm a teacher at a small school in Washington State. I've been asked to do a presentation on geocaching at the Washington State Council for the Social Studies on Sept. 11. I'm hoping to find some folks who are very experienced with caching (as I know you to be) who can give me suggestions for my presentation.

I use geocaching in my classoom by: maintaining a site and tracking visitors, following travel bugs, and occasionally taking students on a hunt for caches. My purpose has simply been for students to become proficient at using latitute & longitude cooridinates, to become familiar with various place names (especially in Washington) and to have a lot of fun.

I've already got some great ideas from the board here.

I've presented to teachers twice before and they always head out to purchase GPS receivers afterwards. This sport is contagious!

I am hoping to find someone who will "loan" me a collection of GPS navigators so I can take my class of teachers on a hunt and have them all get to "hold the thingy" as they say.

    Thanks in advance for ideas!
