  1. Sometimes if there is heavy tree cover I'll look farther, but I agree that about 30 feet is the usual. Check to see what your current GPS accuracy is, then double it. That's probably the maximum amount that it can be off. (Though it's certainly possible to be worse. I did find a cache the other day that was 100ft from GZ!)
  2. Riiiggghhhttt..... Does your friend have premium membership? If so he can just run a bunch of pocket queries and download them to his phone. No, he doesn't have that. Like I said, it needs to be free. He doesn't like paying for any softver on his phone. What app does he use, or what operating system?
  3. I agree! I only have 571 DNFs. But I don't want everyone to know that. I am certainly not proud of my DNFs. Most are a failure on my part, and are of no use to the CO. That's why it could be an opt-in option for users. Perhaps a premium feature?
  4. You could download caches found by the person as a pocket querey and upload them to GSAK, then you could search the names.
  5. How you found the second stage without the first is beyond me, but yup! That's a find!

  7. www.geocaching.com/premium/ Does this help? Czy to pomoże? I enjoy premium, for only 30 euros a year it is a very good deal in my eyes. Lubię "Premium", tylko 30 euro rocznie jest bardzo dobry interes w moich oczach. (Niestety, jest to tłumaczenie google)
  8. Workaround? It's not really a work around... Not that I know anything about this app
  9. Woohoo! Now the question is, should the number reflect the number of DNF logs that you have written? Or the number of caches that you have logged a DNF, but not a found it?
  10. Do a check after every DNF? Well, it depends on: 1. How often the cache gets found, and 2. How close it is to me I have a cache that's literally 500 feet from my house that's found about once a week. I'll check that if there's a DNF. I also have a cache that's a good half hour drive from my house thats found a few times a week. I'll usually wait until two DNFs in a row to check it. Or if there's a DNF and then no logs for a week after. Also, I write a note/needs maintenance whenever I check a cache. (Be it mine or someone elses.)
  11. Once when I was on a trip to Italy, the others in my party decided to stop at a fruit stand in Florence. I leaned against a wall to wait for them and happened to glance behind a sign. Low and behold: a nano cache!
  12. I'd definitely ask the previous finder. As you said, it was dark. I'd wait until you know for sure that it's gone before you disable it. You could post a note explaining the situation if you want.
  13. Odd, the cache you found isn't listed on your profile and you know not to mention the "app with the colon in it" already too. Isn't that something. Maybe they did what they were suppose to and searched the forums first. Nearly every topic makes it clear that it is not to be named, and I've often called it the "app with the colon in it" in these forums. Sorry, but with the smiley afterwards, I see it as just another "How do I use c:geo" post. - They have their own forums for that... Well, you aren't required to participate in this topic.
  14. Only premium members can add favorite points. They are allotted one favorite point for every ten caches they find. They can give favorite points to any cache they'd like (or not use them at all). Favoring differs from bookmarking because favorite points accumulate for each cache. They are also limited in the amount that can be given, as I said up there^. I'm not good at explaining...look here. If you have anymore questions, just ask.
  15. I'll just answer one of your questions. You do not have to be a premium member of Geocaching to cache with a handheld GPS. If you do get the GPS you can take your time in deciding whether premium membership would be useful to you. I'll answer another. The full app does allow for offline caching.

  17. Oh...not everybody has them??? Ah yes! Thank you!
  18. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. (I don't know, things were different in 2005)
  19. (This answer is not specific toward any app. Moderators, please don't delete it. It isn't directions on how to use that app specifically. Thanks) Anyway, Welcome to the hobby! It may be your phone. Not all of them have a real compass, not even all dedicated GPS units. For example, on my eTrex 20 I have to be moving for the "compass" to works correctly. That's how it tells which direction is which, it just assumes that I'm holding the device forward as I'm moving. Hope that makes sense! As for the different methods of getting to the cache, I nearly always use the arrow when I'm within 500 feet. I've tried the "closer or further away principal" but it tends to take longer. I do have a friend that just looks at the map and tries to get to GZ (ground zero) that way. If you have any more questions, just ask! (Oh and it's great that you want to set up your own cache! However, I recommend finding a fair amount (the website recommend 20) of geocaches before, just so you can get a feel for things.)
  20. I'm just worried that no one would show up. I live in an area with a low population... well, as long as you show up, you're good. An event of one... I wonder if that would be some sort of record?

  22. Yeah, I knew about the April fools joke, but why does Moun10bike have that?? I'm jealous.
  23. Doesn't Garmin's geocaching website already have a category for nano? So wouldn't their units automatically be able to handle it?
  24. Don't worry -- it will be fixed when they complete this submitted feature request: SUBMITTED (25005) - [FEATURE] Nano canister size But they're afraid they'll break all the 3rd party apps! Good thing they didn't do that with their email...
