  1. I'm tempted to change mine..but I cant, 'cos I've made a great breakthrough. Like the Oxygen Bottle thing on Everest, I place stashes of water on the way out, if only I could find them on the way back. But I've got a thingy that says you could suck sewage thro it and get a clean drink, and clean socks for filters and bleach and iodine and plastic bags.....good thing I've marked the umpteem mom and pops with cold ones.
  2. I'm using Z22 and cachemate, even add map pix. Problems..keep losing the tap the screen thingy, can't see the screen outdoors. Otherwise OK
  3. I LOVE my DNF's give me chance to go again.
  4. I have cached with 3 models simultaneously, Basic Yellow Etrex, Garmin 60 and 60Cs (all mine)...the Basic does FINE
  5. A Los Angeles news station ran this piece back in May, maybe it'll help your cause: http://cbs2.com/video/?id=17837@kcbs.dayport.com Best, Mr. Wisearse. TVM the idea, I have contacted them and they are interested.
  6. Seems to be what I need, is the chip in the Etrex X, same as 60CSX ?, I have all the bells and whistles with my 60CS, and as long as the reception on the relatively low cost Etrex is same as 60CSX, then I'll get one. Thanks to all who have responded.
  7. Whoever says these reviewer guys are not helpful should see this thread. Good on yer lads
  8. I have an Etrex, a Garnin 60 and a Garmin 60CS, finding difficulties under heavy tree cover, are there any "stats" on how much better the x series are.?
  9. I'm always stopping complete strangers who look as if they might know the direction of North, I guess about 50 or 60, total success ONE, good thing I'm not trying to make a living at it!
  10. I would like to get hold of a video that the local Cable Station might show, and increase our numbers from 2.5. Any help please?
  11. If I fix a TB to my person..could you take me please, I could stay there a looooooooooooong time, no-one will miss me.
  12. Yes please bring back the feature, spent a long time lookung for it.
  13. The majority of the caches are in the Pattaya-Jomtien Area Caches in Bangkok are very prone to muggling/difficult signal reception. There are quite a few micros, generally placed where travel is easy, Skytrain etc, but again signal/muggle problems but the logs show a bit of ingenuity works. A great place which is part of Bangkok is "Prapadaeng"..unbelievable oasis of peace and quiet across the river. See "Bare Bones II" for ferry co-ords The Pattaya area is great for geocaching, great scenery, tough jungle/mountain caches, a good mix. For advice on travelling around to get caches contact "Gerboa" or "Dunderhead" who have assisted visitors, They are not selling anything, just keen people. There are EXCELLENT MAP CD's of all Thailand and the visitor areas, they are bang up to date and allow search by lat/long and many other criteria. The ZOOM brings extraordinary detail, they are only about $10 jnc high quality maps, from Good Bookshops or search "Thinknet"
  14. Received email inf, Thanks To all. Closing Thread
  15. All the info seems to suggest that the old hand held is as good as / better than the Electronic compass, no batteries, no calibration, certainly easier to sight . Please someone tell me what are the advantages of the Electronic Compass. I must stress my concerns are for situations when signal is unreliable. Thank You.
  16. makes me happy that there are only 2 and a half cachers here in umpteen hundred square miles, all of S.E.Thailand
  17. So if I don't have a satellite lock, (as in heavy cover), following a bearing is the same as magnetic compass ?, that is I can be drifting sideways , and still believe I'm heading OK. I would need to sight an object to go to, impossible in the "jungle" So I need an 'X" series, can get a signal in a dungeon ?
  18. 1. When the Compass is on it is NOT using the satellites, therefore tree cover and canyons do not affect it. 2. If set to the correct switch on time/speed it will always point to the waypoint. 3. If the above are true it is generally better to use the compass. After a bewildering time in heavy cover yesterday I need to know, trying it on the trail while sweating and being stung does not help me, trying to change pace and being tripped by vines and held by thorns...but I love this game/sport/activity/pastime.
  19. as others have said, i find that once you sort of stop and start looking, the pointer has a mind of it's own and points every which way, I understand that this is correct. I walk back 30 metres or so and proceed with a steady reading, and stay on that course and count the distance by paces, seems to work. Then ask myself.."where would I hide it ?" and look for signs of disturbance.
  20. Just got a Z22, everything fine until I go geocaching, Can't see the sreen Any advice please.
  21. IMHO I believe all this is a storm in a teacup. The threatener is either a "heid the ba'" as we say in Glasgow, a troll or both. The attention he is receiving no doubt floats his boat. As Winston said "You do your worst, and we will do our best"
