  1. I was struggling with the same issue. I eventually went for the Oregon 450? Why? Screen was a bit larger and it was brighter, so I thought it was worth the extra $30 or so for the 450. I love the 450, the 3 way compass, the ability to paperlessly geocache. Good luck in the choice.
  2. The best advice? Get GSAK - the geocaching swiss army knife. It makes Oregon management a breeze.
  3. I noticed there is a benchmark marker in front of my local REI store. I could not find it in the benchmark database on geocaching.com. Are these legitimate markers and if so, how do we add them to the database?
  4. Any of the Garmin Colorado / Oregon / Dakotas would work. You'll need to add topos / street maps. Search the forums for help here. You can also do this with the DeLorme PN 30/40/60 or the Magellan Geocaching model. It was a mess to sort through this all. I finally settled on an Oregon 450 which I love. Good luck with your decision. so with your gps do you have all the cache info on it Yes. I'm am pleased as punch with the 450. It shows me all the cache information including description, hints and last xx longs (I configure that with GSAK). You'll want to become a premium member with it for maximum benefit.
  5. I'm a new 450 owner. Check the forums. You can find a link to get a premium membership 30 day trial. Then download GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife). That will get you what you want.

  7. Does that mean I can leave my wife in a cache and somebody will take her???? Just remember - Trade up or trade even.
  8. What do you think of a 'limited availability' geocache - for example one with a Fourth of July theme that you would only allow 'finds' on 7/4/20XX and finds any other day would have to be either notes or be deleted. I want to level the playing field for some of the local FTF hounds and do something unique. Would this concept be approved?
  9. I'd like to see a timer for how long a travel bug has been in a spot. Helps us look for those TBs that need to be rotated.
  10. cervri, I understand your situation, but we're talking about bugs that were logged in 6 months ago and many visits in between. I think that gives plenty of time for a missing bug to be logged.
  11. What is the proper procedure when you come across a geocache that says on the site that it has a travel bug, but the TB is not in the cache? I'm talking about bugs that were placed in caches six months ago, per the site, but were not there when I recently visited. Is there a way to mark them missing in action? And how often does this happen?
