  1. I just recently learned about Challenge coins, which at their core are for proving membership of a group, making challenges (!) of other coin holders, and being given for noteworthy accomplishments. They started as a military practice but are becoming more widespread, and I was wondering if anyone has used a Geocoin to achieve the same purpose, with the added benefit of being trackable?
  2. Agreed all round, policing the logs would be somewhat militant, don't really know why I even considered it! I may just set it up as a basic cache with a suggestion/challenge to all comers to take at least one piece of trash away with them, make it the theme rather than a demand, and maybe do a pic-related challenge to compliment it as suggested. Thanks everyone!
  3. Yes, I've read the guidelines when placing my other caches, and going over it again, fair enough about the logbook, that's not a problem. I don't see anything else that forbids a cache with a request for pics in the logs, is it to do with the pic being a requirement? I've been to several that ask for pics, though not necessarily as requirements. Or is it considered some kind of soliciting? Maybe it would be better to list it as a challenge instead?
  4. I was thinking of placing a cache along a quite frequently dirty local path, with the intention being that in order to log the cache properly, people should pick up a piece of litter on the way to it, take a pic of the litter with the cache marker in the background and attach it to the log, get people into the CITO spirit. I was thinking of making it a virtual, but that's not possible, so are there any things I should take into account for a cache such as this? Should it still have a regular logbook at the location? Am I within my rights to remove logs that don't include a pic, or is there some way of marking them as incomplete (i.e. setting them to DNF until a pic is added)? Any tips or suggestions would gratefully received!
  5. Thanks, I found my user name in O2, seems though that you can only get the straight-up email to mobile service if you have their broadband, which seems unfair. Instead I subscribed to getting a text alert when an email from Geocaching comes to my webmail, only their rule page doesn't work, great stuff, O2!
  6. I'm trying to set up instant notifications via email-to-sms on my O2 iPhone 3GS, using http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=184 as my guide. I went to the page they suggested for the email addresses associated, but the O2 one didn't give any result, and I've tried several others I've found online. None of them have sent a test sms through, has anyone set this up on O2 already who could give me some pointers?
  7. That is such awful news, I'd only just met him online, then it turned out I'm only a few streets away! All our condolences to his family, I'd be happy to help with any of his caches if it's needed.
  8. Cool, thanks very much everyone. I've gone for the Geocaching app, already loaded it up with a few caches to look for in my lunch break...
  9. Thanks for the reply! I thought it might come down to Geocaching or Geosphere, what's the major difference between them, though? Does Geocaching do anything significantly better than Groundspeaks own, or is it just that it's more geared towards experienced users? Also, I've seen a lot of iTunes comments by people complaining the search and posting functions don't work at the moment on Geocaching, is that just a rarity? Thanks for the hunting tips, too, I've been noticing the GPS takes a while to settle out, but once it does it's gotten me to a couple of small caches. I've been poring over the maps on the computer first before I go out looking so I know roughly where before I even get the phone out.
  10. Hi all, I've just gotten started in caching and am keen to get an app for my iPhone 3Gs to go exploring. I've been playing with the free Geocaching Intro and would like to get a more advanced app, mostly been pondering the full Geocaching app, and similar apps like Geocaching with Geosphere, but I want to be sure I'm getting my money's worth. Could anyone recommend one to go for? I'm in the UK, east midlands area, by the way. Cheers
