  1. Anybody know where one would go to get a TB info card laminated at minimal expense? Obviously, I don't have access to a laminating machine at home or work. --- Two paths diverged in a wood, and my... my GPSr pointed dead center between them. ---
  2. I voted Bug Brothel, just because it sounded fun, but I think that as long as the name begins with "Bug" or "Travel Bug", it'll be obvious what the purpose is. The placer should use whatever creativity they deem necessary, and have a little fun, comming up with the full name, though. It wouldn't bother me if they were all named something a little different. I pulled out all the stops when I named my bug cache, Travel Bug Depot. --- Two paths diverged in a wood, and my... my GPSr pointed dead center between them. ---

  4. Well, I just posted my Travel Bug Depot cache as mentioned above. Since we get very few Travel Bugs out this way, hopefully this might attract a few? If nothing else, it should help push the new bugs here out towards their goals quicker. --- Two paths diverged in a wood, and my... my GPSr pointed dead center between them. ---

  6. I completely agree with Zuckerruebensirup on all points. Two paths diverged in a wood, and my... my GPSr pointed dead center between them.
  7. quote:Originally posted by WaldenRun: Being a Charter member doesn't really lend any more credibility to a cacher. so I would hate to see caches denied approval because they did not meet the standards of some Super-cacher race. If someone has the money to pay for even a basic GPSr and the gas to drive around looking for geocaches, I highly doubt they're so poor they can't afford the $30 a year to be a Charter Member here. 99.9% (I'm sure I'm being consertive) of the participants here could at least afford the $3 for a month of membership in order to vote on a cache they felt particularly strong about. That hardly makes them a race of Super-cachers. However, if someone cares enough about this site, and this sport, to help support it financially, then that should come with the privilege of having at least a little more say in what happens here. Being a Charter Member lends a lot of credibility to a cacher imho. [This message was edited by skydiver on May 07, 2002 at 02:00 PM.]
  8. Overall, I'm against locationless caches, but have seen some that were fairly creative, imaginative, and difficult to log. (Refuse to log even those though). Overall, I'm wishy-washy on virtual caches, since more of them seem to provide similar difficulty as a real geocache. They should be held up to a tougher standard of creativity, though. Overall, I'm all in favor of real geocaches, but have seen (and found) some that were pretty darn unimaginative, too. So, what I'd love to see is a system where finders can rate how much fun that had hunting the cache, and how difficult they felt it actually was. On top of that, I'd love to see a system where, if enough Charter Members give a poor rating on a cache, it get's automatically archived. Seems that would go a long way toward enforcing creative, fun, caches, as well as encourage some of the freeloaders to become Charters. OR, what do people think of a rule that states that a cache posted by a non-charter member, must be logged and "approved" by a Charter, before it's available to the general public? But now I'm way off topic and should be in the "enhancement suggestions" forum.
  9. SWEET! Thanks. I'll just try that myself if it happens again (got three more bugs to "set free" still).
  10. quote:If (God forbid) the cache got looted or removed, quite a few Bugs would go missing in one shot. Well, as with any cache, it's important for the person hiding it originally, to pick a spot where it's very unlikely any non-geocachers will stumble across it. But as for a dishonest "geocacher" doing the looting, well that can happen with ANY cache. Plus, I can't imagine most bug only caches would have a lot of bugs waiting in them. I would think bugs would normally get dropped off and picked up pretty quickly (unless there's a dumb take-a-bug/leave-a-bug rule).

  12. I just created my first travel bug. And when I seleced the image to display with the bug, the image doesn't display. Now I can't even change the image back to "None" without deleting the image itself. License To Travel
  13. I had the same idea, and thought I was being so original. My plan was (and still is) to place a "Bug Depot" at a spot near an airport and the junction of an Interstate and a major State Highway. However, I think that the important part of a name for these type of caches is that the name itself clearly indicates what it is. If I'm driving across country, I'm not necesarily going to closely read the description of every cache along the way. But if I see one titled "Bug Hotel" or "Bug Depot" or even "Buggabo" I'll probably check it closer to see if it's one where I can pick up or drop off a bug to help it on it's journey. I wouldn't necessarily read every cache with a railroad theme, as there are many that aready have that theme, and have nothing to do with travel bugs. I did see somebody else did a couple caches in Maryland called "Bug Depots", but with a strange rule that if you take a bug, you need to leave a bug. I don't see how that really helps the bugs get moving faster. What if there's a bug there that needs to go to Germany, and I happen to be leaving for Deutschland tomorrow but don't have a bug to trade it with. I guess that bug just missed a great ride.

  15. I easily fall into the "accept their existance" category, but am much more willing to accept VC's that involve national parks (where real caches aren't allowed) and require the finder actually go to some specific coordinates within the park. (In fact, come to think of it, it's a pretty good idea.) However, I think what the approvers are trying to say is that 6 virtual Yellowstone caches that are essentially identical, is excessive. I have to agree. Why not just one cache at some central location? Old Faithful for instance, and require the finder to provide some piece of information or picture that proves they were there.

I was working on the submission while doing other things as well, so the page was open for several hours before I hit submit. When I went back to re-submit I saw this on the form page... "You have a limited session timeframe (40 minutes). You'll need to enter your cache report within this time, or your session will end and your submission won't be sent." Not sure why they'd set a limit like that, but I assume there's a good reason for it. Now I know.

  18. Nope, didn't get "received it" page, link or email. Does the link to your new cache immedietly show up on your "Caches I've Hidden" section on your My Cache Page? If so, then I definitely just need to resubmit it.
  19. I hid my first cache on Wednesday, submitted it for approval on Thursday, and as yet haven't seen hide nor tail of it. So, a couple questions have come to mind. 1. When I clicked the submit button on the form, it brought me back to a blank "submit a new cache" form. I was expecting a page showing me what I submitted as others would see it (giving me a chnce to check my HTML), or at the very least a "submission successfull" message. Did I get what I was supposed to get, or was there maybe an error and my submission has gone to the darkside? 2. The submit page says it generally takes 24-48 hours for the volunteers to review the cache, but ... watching the main geocaching.com page where the last 15 caches are shown, I see some that were just submitted today, and others that were submitted two weeks ago. Can anyone briefly explain to me why some caches take so long to get approved, and others seemingly no time at all? I realize I'm still in the 48 hour window, so I'm certainly not getting impatient with the hardworking volunteers. Just a little anxious to find out if I did everything right, or if there's anything I can do on my next cache to make it easier on the volunteers. Thanks
